00:00Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way people communicate, access information and make decisions.
00:06But with technology also comes a growing risk of deception as fake images, videos and voices become increasingly difficult to
00:14distinguish from reality.
00:16It is a concern President Christine Kangaloo addressed during her visit to the Diwali Nagar last evening,
00:23where she reflected on this year's theme, Viveka, Discerning Truth, in the Age of AI.
00:27How are we to remain faithful to truth when artificial intelligence can create false words, false images and false voices
00:38that appear real?
00:41Viveka is the faculty of discernment, the union of intellect, conscience and wisdom by which we distinguish truth from falsehood
00:52and choose responsibly.
00:54President Kangaloo says that the dangers of AI are not merely theoretical.
00:58She revealed that she too has been targeted by fake social media profiles and AI generated videos.
01:05Last year, a gentleman came to the office of the president intending to invest in a scheme which he believed
01:13that I had endorsed.
01:15His belief rested upon an AI generated video.
01:20The video was false, but it was convincing enough to prompt a real financial decision.
01:27The president said AI itself should not be viewed as the enemy.
01:31Instead, she believes the technology should be used responsibly with human judgment and a conscience remaining at the center of
01:39decision making.
01:40Our challenge is to let artificial intelligence enlarge our capacities, but never replace our conscience.
01:49To let it assist our judgment, but never excuse us from exercising it.
01:55In the age of AI, may that ancient Sanskrit prayer continue to guide us.
02:09The president says the message of Viveka extends beyond technology, reminding citizens of the importance of truth, wisdom and responsibility
02:18in building a society where every community is respected.
