Doug Karsch, Gator Anderson, and producer Khang run through a rapid-fire slate of NFL hot topics, starting with the Baltimore Ravens acquiring Jacoby Brissett following Lamar Jackson's injury. The crew debates whether Brissett gives Baltimore a realistic shot to stay afloat in a stacked AFC North, and if the Minnesota Vikings need to strike a trade for Kirk Cousins, Mac Jones, or even kick the tires on a blockbuster move.

00:02it is karshen anderson here on 97 one glad you're with us on this thursday it's time for the nfl
00:08blitz thingy i received yesterday gator your choice today let's go all right gator question
00:25number one with the ravens down their top two quarterbacks they have reportedly traded for
00:30jacoby reset from the cardinals what percentage chance would you give per set of keeping the
00:34ravens alive and in this playoff hunt you know i'm gonna go with 40 they're in a uh a tough
00:41division
00:41as well like the lions all the teams there are 500 or above including baltimore at four and four
00:46they're at the bottom of that division uh they've got some leapfrogging to do but their schedule is
00:52such that it's easily leapfrogged because they're playing every team that they have to get past so
00:57that bodes well for them at least for having the chance the problem is that it's jacoby brissette
01:03he's not great but what he is is he's a competent enough player he's a decent placeholder um and the
01:12team around him is still pretty talented but he's nowhere near lamar i'm curious to see what the
01:17offense is going to look like when they design plays that aren't necessarily built around a
01:22quarterback that's going to take off and go all the time brissette can run he can scramble but he
01:27doesn't have to he's he's more uh accustomed to sitting in the pocket and throwing and uh they
01:31gotta get the ground game going too just with the running backs but he can get things going with the
01:36with the passing but it's 40 i like brissette let's not forget he led the cardinals to that road
01:40win over the rams so it's in there but it's hard to parachute in on a new situation and a
01:46new
01:46offense and quickly assimilate which is what brissette is going to be asked to do the schedule
01:50is tough as you mentioned the division is tough so i'll go 20 percent i thought i was going to
01:55be
01:55optimistic at 30 but gator leaped me on that one i have a 30 percent i don't think it's really
01:59high
01:59of course at 30 but i think there is a chance there if the afc north gets two teams in
02:05so that
02:06means the the ravens will currently be battling with the bangles and browns to get that last spot and i
02:10don't really trust the browns and if the patriots start to lose again maybe that opens up another
02:14wild card spot so percent obviously isn't great but he is a veteran and he can sling it he's won
02:20before in this league not consistently of course they're gonna have to lean on derrick henry and
02:23the defense to grind out some wins it's not over yet and maybe just maybe he holds it down enough
02:29and lamar does come back at the end of the season all right speaking of quarterback trades should the
02:36vikings trade for a quarterback yeah i think they should try to trade for a quarterback and the
02:42question is can they pry mac jones out of san francisco can they convince the raiders to give
02:46up on their season and deal kirk cousins i think those are tough questions to answer i would answer
02:52no on both of those so who else is out there anthony richardson has requested a trade hasn't gotten one
02:57yet tyson badgett with the bears but ask yourself this is badgett really going to again parachute into
03:03a new situation and be better than kyler murray who's been in the system i would argue no
03:07so i would say it's jones or cousins or something better or no trade if the question should they
03:15trade for a quarterback yeah how about jj mccarthy oh wait too soon no i can't do that uh i
03:22agree with
03:22doug if they can trade for kirk cousins do it he's got familiarity with the offense he knows the players
03:27he was very successful there i don't know if the raiders are going to want to move off of of
03:32captain
03:32kirk um but if they lose on sunday and then fall below 500 maybe that's all they need and we'll
03:37see
03:38how desperate the vikings are but the vikings might just need a running back and that can calm things
03:43down if if they can land one of those uh rumored backs that are out there then maybe things are
03:50okay
03:50but carson wentz is right there he's got to be ready to go kyla murray hasn't been the answer i
03:55don't
03:55think he ever will be and he's banged up after the lions game apparently has a hamstring issue so i
04:01if i
04:01were the the vikings i i'd go with wentz this week see what he's got and if he if if
04:06he's not good
04:07enough don't waste the season yet go out and get yourself a quarterback it's crazy to waste the
04:12season and think about training for a quarterback when they're first place in the toughest toughest
04:16division in football and they're six and one but we are talking about it and i think yeah they should
04:22look at making making a trade for a quarterback it's crazy but the one everyone's talking about of
04:26course is kirk cousins for obvious reasons his relationship with o'connell the chemistry has with
04:30justin jefferson he's familiar with the the team and the area and everything but i'm gonna throw a
04:34huge whoa out of the off you know off the wall trade at you they maybe should look at how
04:40about
04:40justin herbert okay it's really hard to find a franchise quarterback in this league and although
04:46he's been terrible this year that might be the only reason you have a shot at him is because he's
04:50been so bad and maybe they think it's not working with herbert here let's recoup a bunch of draft
04:55capital and start it all over and then that way the vikings get a real young quarterback with still
04:59a lot of ceiling left to maybe because he has been good in this league it's just he's been pretty
05:04bad
05:05this year so i'm just throwing that out there all right tommy brady is returning to foxborough this
05:12sunday for the first time as a game broadcaster is this a big deal sure i mean he's the goat
05:18right
05:19uh returning his old stomping grounds it should feel great for him and i'm sure his reception will be
05:24quite warm uh would be warmer if he didn't unretire and win a super bowl somewhere else and become
05:31pardon of the raiders yeah but uh i still think it's cool and you know you welcome back hall of
05:39famers they should always receive a a great reception unless they left on horrible terms and i don't think
05:44that was the case with him and he won them what six super bowls that's pretty great is this a
05:48big deal
05:49is this a big deal to me hey you used to work here i did no way you're back doing
05:56it in a
05:57different role oh i'm gonna tune in i don't care full stop i don't care that tommy brady's going back
06:03to new england is it a big deal to them i'm sure it is it's like when barry sanders shows
06:08up in
06:08detroit and everybody which he's there a lot everybody applauds him as they should but i i do not i
06:14intensely don't care wow tell me how you really feel doug it does a big tom brady um yeah uh
06:19so
06:19you know what i kind of agree with you doug it may not be a huge deal for us but
06:23it definitely should
06:24be for patriot fans he's not just a legend or the goat he's their legend and their goat they should
06:30definitely acknowledge him to the crowd at some point during the game maybe during a break where
06:34we don't even see it you know we're watching at home but they should kind of pan up there show
06:38him
06:38on the big board or whatever and then the crowd should stand up and give him his ovation because
06:41like i said he's a legend and goat but he's still not allowed to say we during the broadcast when
06:47when analyzing the patriots i don't like that all right guys crazy week eight what was the craziest
06:55thing that happened i'll give you some options lamar jackson getting injured on the very first snap and
06:59maybe ending his season gardner minchu coming into the game and giving the cardinals a comeback win
07:04went down 14 in the fourth quarter on the road versus the cowboys the tampa bay buccaneers winning the
07:09game without completing a pass and guess what the chiefs they actually blew a double digit lead in
07:14the fourth quarter okay so if those were all bets i would argue that the longest shot of those bets
07:21would have been lamar jackson over or under one and a half snaps that that would be the under hitting
07:27on that would have paid the best but the one that's most fascinating to me is winning without
07:31completing a pass what is this rugby yeah it's nuts i i think it's the bucks winning without a completed
07:37pass uh today's nfl game is a passing league and it didn't factor in at all for tampa bay that's
07:45nuts
07:45this hasn't happened in like 75 years or something like that uh as far as the others i mean injuries
07:50do happen we've seen that happen before uh minchu mania somebody had this on twitter i thought it was
07:55hysterical uh gardner minchu is like the mcrib it's a limited time only but when it's around everybody
08:01seems to love it um and with uh no you love minchu and the mcrib i hate the mcrib but
08:08that's okay i
08:08love gardner minchu um but the double digit leads going bye-bye we've seen that happen too it i mean
08:15just happened with dallas so that happens all the time all right so my first thought was the same as
08:19you you guys the bucks winning a game in 2026 without completing a pass but i can't ignore the
08:25fact that weather played a huge role in that appendix he only completed eight passes himself
08:29he had four interceptions so when i dig deeper i think the craziest thing guys was minchu mania
08:35popping up out of nowhere and he did it with a forgotten tyler algier and there's actual historical
08:41fact to back up this craziness that that i think it's the craziest thing that happened in week eight
08:44it is the first time in cowboys franchise history that they lost the home game after leading by more
08:51than 14 points in the fourth quarter dropping them from a historical record of 202 one and one
08:58there were 202 oh and one before that had happened that was the craziest thing to me
09:07the chargers are oh and seven should jim harbaugh be fired now at the end of the season or not
09:12at all
09:14uh not fired at all um you know i'm not a big harbs fan personally but as a coach i
09:19think he's a
09:20really good head coach um but he's got his his limited time before things start to rub people the
09:26wrong way i think the seat warmer should be on level two his offensive coordinator seat warmer
09:30should be on level three if not ejector seat at this point but the line is non-existent they don't
09:35have any offensive weapons and the quarterback has no chance but to endure another rough season
09:39they should be very active in the trade market to gain some draft capital and they should dump some
09:44salary for free agent market as well but i would give harbs another year i always ask this why are
09:49you
09:49firing a guy there's the punitive fire which can be counterproductive but feels good in the moment
09:53you're mad you gotta go but you ask yourself this is there someone on that staff that you want to
09:59see
09:59could they be a viable replacement somebody you'd like to bump up to the interim spot for the last
10:0510 games that could be a viable replacement and i looked at their staff there's a couple names
10:11mike mcdaniel or adam gaze do you want to see either of those get another shot i really don't so
10:16i would
10:16let the season play out and make a decision on harbaugh's future at the end of the year so i
10:22would let
10:22him go at the end of the season normally after two 11 and six seasons i might allow a letdown
10:28year
10:28but jim harbaugh is not normal so i'd treat him as much
10:35all right last one guys justin herbert threw two more interceptions last week one was intercepted by
10:41ram safety quentin lake lake was on the saint brown podcast and said herbert was throwing deli meat out
10:46there what description do you mean hey what description do you like to use or hear when a
10:52poor pass results in an interception like he said it was deli meat well we'll start with this
10:57if anybody throws a poor pass in the future on a saturday during a michigan game you might hear
11:02the term deli meat i love it uh but my current favorite is arm punt where a quarterback just
11:07lobs one out there and it looks more like a punt than a pass so arm punt is my favorite
11:12i'm still
11:12trying to figure out deli meat you know because it's pig skin does it mean you're throwing a big
11:16ham out there i i don't know um but i went with this i hate the band but the description
11:23is quite
11:24appropriate limp biscuit he threw a limp he threw a limp biscuit out there you might hear that during
11:32michigan games too all right so earlier this year tom brady actually called one of justin herbert's
11:37pick and he used the term meatball sub to describe a justin herbert pick so i'm going to stick with
11:42the food theme you can't just throw a pot roast over the middle or they were setting up a tight
11:47end
11:47screen but instead he threw a savory cheese souffle all right and the last one it looks like he tried
11:52to hit him on the deep post but instead it was a duck breast with chutney wow very limp biscuit
11:57kind of works too i do i do like it uh there it is that concludes the y9 omaha four
12:03down around the
12:04league blitz thingy more your phone calls and feedback coming up we'll get into some michigan
12:08michigan state talk at 11 a.m it is karshen anderson on 971
