00:00We're here today to provide an update and an ongoing investigation by the Northern Territory
00:05Joint Counterterrorism Team, comprised of the Northern Territory Police, the Australian
00:09Federal Police and ASIO. As you're aware, a Darwin teenager was charged last week with a number of
00:17offences relating to alleged terrorism and violent extremism. That investigation has continued and
00:26it has now led to a second young person being identified and facing serious allegations.
00:32It is deeply concerning and frankly disappointing that another young person has allegedly become
00:39involved in matters of this nature. But I also want to make something very clear. The fact that
00:47the investigation has identified another person should give Territorians confidence that the
00:52system is working. As outlined by the Commissioner, a second Darwin teenager has been arrested and
00:59charged with a terrorism related offence in relation to an ongoing Northern Territory Joint Counterterrorism
01:05investigation. This investigation commenced last month in relation to Crimestoppers' information
01:11about violent extremist material being uploaded by an Australian user. Last week on Wednesday,
01:17a teenage boy was arrested and charged with terrorism related offences as well as manufacturing firearm
01:24related offences. That matter is ongoing and still before the court. Following further investigation,
01:31the Joint Counterterrorism Team executed search warrants at apprentices in Darwin yesterday.
01:36During the search, investigators seized documents, electronic devices as well as clothing and prohibited
01:43weapons. It will be alleged an examination, initial examination of those items and online discussions
01:49related to terrorism related acts, with a mixed ideological motivation including the glorification
01:56of a mass casualty attack on a school. The young person has been charged with collecting
02:02or making documents likely to facilitate terrorist acts and she has been remanded to December 15th
02:09where she will next appear in court.
