00:01We did see pockets where people got very excited.
00:04One of the interesting things about the stock market is actually a split control of the
00:09US government effectively, with one party in charge of the Congress and one party in
00:14charge of the presidency, seems to be often a pretty good environment for strong performances
00:19on the stock market.
00:20It seems to partly be an argument that government kind of gets out of the way and lets business
00:25just do what they're doing, that there's less chance of there being policy whiplash, and
00:30that's kind of the period we've now entered into.
00:33We'll start with some of the losers, though, because there were some abrupt selling off
00:38on and kind of off the back of what we've just been hearing from Matt Doran there, particularly
00:43around military-linked companies.
00:46Things like Lockheed Martin heavily sold off on expectations that there won't be a further
00:52escalation in the conflict between the US and Iran, and therefore some of those military
00:58companies that have done particularly well recently because of the re-militarisation
01:03of the United States.
01:04Huge amount of money that's gone into that.
01:06Maybe that will start to ebb a little bit in the future.
01:10We've also seen a strong performance from companies in the oil and gas space – sorry,
01:17a strong selling off on companies in the oil and gas space.
01:19That's partly as you would expect because we've seen the selling – we've seen the
01:23price fall in oil prices, again, because of expectations that perhaps we will see a diplomatic
01:29– or moves towards a diplomatic solution in the Middle East, and that would see the
01:33supply of oil and gas from that region increase, and that would lead to lower prices.
01:38American oil and gas companies have done really well recently because of elevated prices
01:43for the things that they sell and because they've been able to up production in the United
01:47States.
01:48On the flip side to that, though, companies involved in renewable energy, particularly
01:53wind energy – Donald Trump has a personal hatred of wind farms – but also solar companies
01:59that have been heavily sold off in the first two years of this Trump second term.
02:04They had a considerable bounce back.
02:06Now, I think that's not just about the next two years.
02:09It is not like the Democrats are going to be able to change to pass major legislation that
02:14goes against the will of Donald Trump, as he says he can just turn into Mr Vito.
02:19But what they can potentially do is set the groundwork in place, and if they are able
02:25to take the presidency in two years – and given the strength of the result yesterday, that
02:30is looking more likely – Democrats would be good news for those companies in renewable
02:35energy.
02:35Another notable loser yesterday was Elon Musk, the former first buddy – a man who's had
02:42a, you know, at times acrimonious relationship with Donald Trump, but is very close to him
02:46once again – put a huge amount of money into certain races in this midterm election, and
02:52his candidates lost.
02:54Both Tesla and SpaceX, the companies headed by Elon Musk, were heavily sold off under expectations
03:01that we are going to see the Democrats use that power now.
03:04Now that they have committee control, they will be able to launch investigations into really
03:10whatever they like.
03:11And it is thought that one of the focuses will be Elon Musk and his companies, and his companies'
03:17ties with the US government in particular.
03:20Donald Trump and Donald Trump's family also lost out.
03:24The company behind Truth Social, their social media company, was heavily sold off again.
03:31So you can see anything kind of strongly affiliated with Donald Trump lost yesterday.
03:36Things that were – had previously lost out in the first couple of years did pretty well.
03:41The former CEO of Obama just had to fight as a politician.
03:41He was a man who was an idiot, but also challenged him to fight as a politician.
03:41So what did he do?
03:42He was not a follower of the company.
03:42So you'll see how he meets the title.
03:43So he could have to fight as a teacher.
