00:00Usually my seat right here is stacked all the way to the brim full of records and other merchandise.
00:04When we're in regions with Buc-ee's, the Buc-ee's yogurt dipped pretzels.
00:35I'm Kyle, and I'm Miles, and I'm Phil, and we're the band Knight.
00:40Right now we're on tour, the East Coast primarily.
00:43This is our first headline run in the United States.
00:46It's also our last stop for this run of shows.
00:49We're here in Chicago at the Beat Kitchen.
00:52So this is Betty White.
00:53All right, Betty White is our Chevy Express 3500, 15-passenger van, and yeah, she gets
01:01us from point A to point B in one piece.
01:04All right, so yeah, I do most of the driving, but I'm old and I get tired, so these boys
01:09are
01:10always here to pick up, and they do a lot of the late night stuff, last leg of long drives
01:16because they've got a buddy system that gets them just cranked down the road, so that's
01:22pretty nice.
01:22Most of the time, whoever's in the co-captain chair will help navigate some of the music
01:28entertainment or just the general feeding of snacks and keeping his driver alive.
01:33Well, typically who's in this seat, or at least for this run, it's our sound guy, Mitch,
01:37and he's been the passenger princess, and we've been the backseat drivers, and we've been listening
01:43to a lot of, well, I guess a combination of things, a lot of classic rock, a lot of Phil's
01:4990s jams.
01:50He's pulling up Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains, and oftentimes when we're trying to really
01:56relax, we might be in the back completely silent with our headphones on, but we're playing
02:01anything, mostly old stuff like 80s, 90s, that kind of thing.
02:04As previously mentioned, we have road snacks.
02:07They're not the greatest in terms of nutrition, but it's distracting from being tired.
02:14We've got our downy dryer sheets because laundry and smelling halfway decent on tour is important.
02:22This is our sound guy snacks.
02:25And all we have to say is, can I have a bump, and this is what we'll get.
02:28You get the cheese, cheddar cheese goldfish.
02:32We've got gum because breath is important.
02:35There's water as a bottle, bottles of water everywhere.
02:39We typically have luggage stacked to about here because the gear sits in the back, and we've
02:47still got to have luggage.
02:48This is where I sit.
02:50I'm in the middle of everything, the chaos right here.
02:52He's back here drinking the fog juice, the fog liquid.
02:57That's what is keeping me hydrated.
02:58Yeah.
02:59Usually, my seat right here is stacked all the way to the brim full of records and other
03:03merchandise, and then some of our costumes.
03:06Here's a suit coat.
03:08It's kind of chaotic right next.
03:09We just loaded it in, but one of our suit coats right here.
03:12So that's kind of where I'm at.
03:14So I'm navigating because, well, Mitch is supposed to navigate, but I end up navigating to help
03:19him out, especially the inner city driving.
03:21And yeah, this is the setup right now.
03:24There's nobody else that we can fit in here.
03:26And this right here is our merch rack.
03:29This sometimes goes in the building, and thankfully today, there's enough merch racks in the venue.
03:33We don't need it.
03:34The back here is just literally stacked to the brim.
03:37We can't fit any.
03:38No trailers, so we fit everything back here.
03:41And we have a full lighting production, full drum kit, IEMs.
03:44All the merch.
03:45All the merch.
03:46The merchandise takes probably the most.
03:48Yeah.
03:49It's a lot.
03:49I am listening to music quite a lot.
03:51I'm also dealing a lot with the social media interaction and making posts.
03:55So that's the first thing I do in the afternoon when we're starting our drive.
04:00So those are my responsibilities.
04:01And we're probably communicating back and forth, maybe getting back to some emails.
04:05And I have coffee, actually.
04:08This right here, maybe?
04:09Yeah.
04:09We're always drinking coffee.
04:10And we have a French press that we bring with us that first thing in the morning in the hotel,
04:14we make ourselves a brew.
04:15And then later on in the green room, we'll make ourselves another brew.
04:19But, yeah, I don't have that much responsibility.
04:21Neither do I.
04:22I'm guessing you can call me the tour manager because I did all the advancing.
04:26So I have all the emails and all the stuff organized on a sheet.
04:31And most of my job has been done before we even left.
04:34Yeah.
04:35Man, Diet Coke and coffee for us.
04:36I would say Diet Coke and coffee.
04:38So, yeah, we're always getting Diet Coke.
04:39And we bring coffee from home or we'll stop at a third-wave coffee shop and get ourselves some fancy
04:45beans.
04:45Yes.
04:46I mean, I guess we're not really getting candies.
04:47I mean, Mitch and Phil, they are the snack dogs.
04:50We handle the candy.
04:51We handle the snacks.
04:52When we're in regions with Buc-ee's, the Buc-ee's yogurt dipped pretzels, that's our demon device, man.
05:00There's a Buc-ee's hat right over there.
05:02Yeah, yeah.
05:02We're always buying things Buc-ee's.
05:04Yeah, we got a souvenir this time around.
05:07We got a ball cap from Buc-ee's.
05:10We love snacks, any kind of salty snack.
05:14That's it.
05:15I'm a big fan of ice cream.
05:17So if there's some kind of ice cream stop, then I'm down.
05:20Andy's Custard is...
05:21Yeah, Andy's Custard is a fire favorite.
05:23All right.
05:24So here we go.
05:27Betty's got a lot of space in the rear.
05:32Believe it or not, the entire band fits back here.
05:35Typically, there's two other bench seats for a 15-passenger.
05:38We pull those out.
05:39We're able to get drum kit, IEM rig, full complement of guitar, bass, two synth rigs, full lighting rig, controllers
05:54for all the samples and lights, plus our merch, which takes up an enormous amount of space.
06:02So this is the epitome of putting 10 pounds of stuff into a two-pound bag.
06:07Those empty bags were merch.
06:09They were spare merch, and they're all sold out, so I'm sorry, Chicago.
06:13Yes.
06:14We're the ones slinging everything out of the venue to hand off to Phil and Mitch.
06:18He's the Tetris king.
06:19He's the Tetris drummer.
06:20And I've been working out of these Chevy 15 passengers for so long, I've got a great sense of what
06:28you can get done safely.
06:30So, yeah, that's my gig.
06:32I'm OCD, too, so I like for things to fit just so.
06:36We're the band Knight, N-I-T-E.
06:38You can visit us on our website, wearethenight.com, or social media, at wearethenight.
06:44Hope to, yeah, hit us up online.
06:45We'd love to meet you.
06:47Thanks for having us.
06:48Yeah.
06:59We'd love to meet you.
07:20We'd love to meet you.
07:20We'd love to meet you.
