00:09hey good morning fellas thanks for having me on i appreciate it we want to talk to you a little
00:13bit about uh you know what's going on with the football team but also we know you've got a big
00:16event coming up in a couple days tell us what's going on on saturday yeah so saturday uh hosting
00:22an event down in orchard park at first line brewing um right outside the village got our
00:27sixth annual uh thank a vet barbecue just um it's a fun day we set up a few years back
00:34uh got some good chefs coming out smoking some good barbecue first line serving up some
00:38uh some ice cold beer so uh just a day to uh come out and visit um hang out uh
00:44have some good
00:45conversations and um just uh give a nice firm handshake to the uh the local veterans that
00:51um have served our country so sixth annual what made you get this started
00:57um right uh well like 2020 was the first year that we did it uh but it was kind of
01:01like
01:02yeah it was kind of weird because of all the covet stuff going on but um that was kind of
01:07the first
01:07time that i uh was able to go to first line and kind of host and just uh you know
01:12kind of pay it
01:13forward a little bit for uh some of those veterans that wanted to come through and say hello
01:18um and then uh after kind of the some of the protocols got lifted uh we were able to mix
01:24in
01:24some some more food and drink and and some bigger crowds so um it's been it's been a great showing
01:30the
01:30last uh last couple years and we're looking forward to saturday and there's a beer release also coming
01:34up saturday yeah there's a uh so first line is doing a special beer release they had uh they hosted
01:41a big group of veterans uh local buffalo veterans down i think maybe a week or two ago and did
01:47a
01:47brew day with them um and then all of the so that beer they'll they will release at the uh
01:54event on
01:54saturday and uh the can will actually have all of the names of the veterans that helped um helped with
02:01that brew day so pretty cool um you know just a little uh easter egg i guess by uh first
02:09line
02:09brewing so um yeah that'll that'll be released on on saturday the event will be four from four to seven
02:15on saturday uh afternoon how's your grilling going these days right you're you're a proud
02:20member of grills mafia bi-week bring you to uh to the smoker what have you been doing
02:25absolutely um just a little you know a little bit here and there kind of i try to do a
02:29brisket
02:30um at least once a year uh pulled pork is is one of the family favorites because it's
02:35uh pretty versatile you can kind of you can do some you can pull it chop it up salads uh
02:40pulled pork
02:41tacos sandwiches kind of whatever you want so uh my my little girls love uh when i do smash burgers
02:47so that's uh that's almost a weekly thing for us as well too is there a smoking meat contingent within
02:53the team i mean we'll talk golf all the time and who's the best this and who's the best that
02:57does the grills mafia extend into the locker room there there definitely is um i think got you
03:04know i've definitely had guys uh come up to me in the last couple years hey you know what grill
03:08should
03:09i buy you know ask me for tips and tricks here and there but uh i do i do like
03:14the like to have
03:15guys over and and uh you know show them show them the way every now and then reed we've got
03:20our
03:20family chili cook-off at the next uh bills game the dolphins game we're doing a family chili cook-off
03:25is there a uh you win any of those like cook-offs where uh it's your competition take home a
03:30prize
03:31i have not personally entered into any our uh barbecue company here in buffalo q42 we host
03:38competitions throughout the year so we've been a part of them um but uh i may i did not know
03:43about
03:43the chili cook-off i may have to enter my wife's uh she she actually just made some for dinner
03:48last
03:49night and she's uh she's pretty proud of her recipes so may have to uh may have to sign her
03:54up is
03:55there anyone else in the locker room that's competitive with you with uh smoking meat
03:58are you a distant you know runaway number one i don't know um i i don't know i i would
04:04say i'm
04:04you know not toot my own horn probably number one uh i know uh you know a lot of people
04:10love
04:11conor mcgovern's pizza so i would say he's you know we're probably uh neck and neck there
04:16reed ferguson joining us reed how about uh the team this year you're gonna do special teams
04:20coordinator right like there have been a you know some changes to the coaching staff um you know
04:25you you are in the same spot you've been in for many many years as the longest
04:29tenured member of the team what for you is different about this year if anything
04:34yeah uh yeah so on your first point jeff uh coach jeff rogers he's been uh amazing coming in year
04:40one
04:41um the guys love playing for him he's brought some great scheme stuff to uh to the team uh bringing
04:47over his guy greg dorch too has done a great job for us as well so um i think you
04:52know he he's uh he
04:53just you know has a real clear plan for us each and every week um easy to execute and uh
05:00and you know
05:01just i guess really uh fine tunes the the details each and every week is what i would say about
05:07coach
05:08rogers but uh he's been a great addition uh to the organization and we've really enjoyed uh learning
05:13from him and having him here obviously um i you know i i don't know it's been it's obviously been
05:20a really fun season so far i think joe coach coach brady's done a great job um you know putting
05:26his own
05:27stamp um on the buffalo bills organization and um i think that you know the guys um he has the
05:34ear of
05:35everybody in the locker room so uh we uh you know we're we're enjoying the ride um the bye week
05:40was it
05:41was a nice reset um sunday was a good win to get and uh we're certainly looking for looking forward
05:47to monday night in minnesota reed do you have any insight for us on the season that tyler bass is
05:52having like missed all last year the the previous season we had seen him there were some struggles
05:57and then camp was weird like following that there was never another kicker on the roster but i know he
06:02was working like you know kind of privately we hadn't got a look at it and now he's made every
06:07field
06:08goal this season like what have you seen from him and i guess like confidence wise it has to be
06:14as high as it's ever been given that again he hasn't missed a kick yet absolutely um yeah great
06:19question you know watching tyler kind of uh kind of do you know over last year you know ending the
06:28i
06:28guess it was the 20 the 24 season um and then last year in training camp uh with the injury
06:35and then
06:35kind of missing the whole year it it was um it's been extremely fascinating for me to watch
06:40kind of him watch his uh i don't know if you want to call it a redemption arc but um
06:46i guess a
06:47redemption arc for you know for his career sitting out a season which is um you know not typically
06:53something that you see at this level of uh of professional sports is seeing a guy basically you
06:58know sit out a year and then come back and perform uh really at the high level that he's performing
07:03at
07:03so it's really a testament to him he has you know i've watched him for the last year and a
07:08half he's
07:09put in all the work uh physically mentally um he's been in the building all the time working on his
07:14craft and you could tell last year just he was around he was in our meetings you know he he
07:20was
07:20with us all season um and you could just tell how much he you know it was eating at him
07:26not being able
07:26to be out here and competing with us um you know i think he you know matt prater was here
07:32for us all
07:33last year did a great job for us i think what he learned from prater last year on and off
07:38the field
07:40um was really good for him uh you know a lot really on the on the mental side of his
07:45approach to the
07:46game and i think you're you're really seeing a lot of that come to fruition this season he's had a
07:51great start to the season and i would like to give also a special shout out to tommy doman um
07:57our
07:57rookie punter who has really uh dialed in you know he he came in a really good holder i think
08:03he uh he
08:04has gotten better as our work has continued with myself and tyler bass through uh really throughout
08:10otas and throughout uh training camp reed maybe a dumb question here about like grass versus turf but
08:15like for you for you guys for the for your setup i mean of course switching to grass this year
08:19and
08:19also the new stadium like wind confusion and all that how much time was there spent on maybe
08:25learning the intricacies of the new house yeah uh yeah good question um it really uh just took us a
08:34few i guess a few visits over there you know we had a couple of those uh practices during training
08:39camp a couple of open practices um and then obviously a couple preseason games and now a couple
08:44regular season games and uh we try to get over there as much as possible during the week especially
08:49if we're playing at home um just to try and get a feel for uh the wind you know the
08:54the wind
08:55patterns in the stadium um and then uh you know as you mentioned the grass versus turf debate so
09:03um you know we feel like we're in a good spot um i think once they you know once they
09:09uh rethought of
09:11the grass it's been amazing so far uh throughout the first you know couple games that we've been on it
09:16so
09:16um testament to the grounds crew uh for you know really setting us up for success and um you know
09:24it's you know like i said it really only took uh a few times of us getting over there to
09:29kind of get
09:30our bearings uh but we feel like we've got a good a good setup on it now are you still
09:35watching the
09:36premier league absolutely who's your team again he's chelsea chelsea right you're a chelsea fan
09:43what's the right punishment for manchester city we'll get your take on this and then we'll get
09:46you out of here perfect question uh yeah fantastic question um i mean honestly uh points deduction
09:54should definitely be um at the top of the list um you know i don't really know about the monetary
10:02aspect of it because they can really pay any fine that they want with the owners that they have
10:07though you know whether that's a drop in the bucket to them or not but i think the real way
10:13that you that you're going to hurt them for what they've done is uh points deduction and or uh some
10:19sort of relegation so um yeah we'll see i mean i hope something comes of it uh because we've been
10:25hearing about it for i don't know three or four years now it seems like yeah the the other part
10:30of
10:30it is if they get their title stripped which yeah that's different there but that is one thing i
10:37feel like it's kind of the same thing as reggie bush's heisman you know you could take it away
10:42yeah but it was still celebrated and they you know they they already celebrated and kind of did the
10:48whole thing already so it's like if you take it away you know people are going to say well we
10:53are you
10:54know we already kind of saw him lift the trophy i guess but right i see where he's coming from
10:58well the event again reed ferguson joining us in the western hotline saturday coming up this
11:04saturday at first line brewing thank yvette barbecue from four to seven uh free beer and
11:09barbecue to all veterans on behalf of reed a beer release lots going on you mentioned if you're
11:14someone that's into smoking meat there's going to be stuff to get there supplies and all that
11:18so uh reed thanks for the time good luck with the event and uh we'll talk soon sounds good thank
11:24you fellas appreciate it thanks reed reed ferguson i remember him as a chelsea fan we talked on the
11:28sidelines once a training camp a while back about premier league stuff i was just looking they
11:34wouldn't chelsea would not get any more titles if uh city got uh got stripped it would be three for
11:39united three for liverpool and two for arsenal contra the thank of that barbecue four to seven
11:45saturday first line brewing if you want to head there that's at uh 4906 south buffalo street in
11:50orchard park 80305 50 how do you like uh this is again just a a random observation if you want
12:00a
12:01receiver everybody out there trying to talk me into it if i'm gonna which i'm sure is very difficult
12:07all right right if you want a receiver uh is there a better idea than ad mitchell
12:16is there a better idea than ad mitchell of the jets you want a jets receiver you can't get
12:20garrett wilson without two firsts and the jets taking a 59 million dollar cap it how about
12:25how about a guy in the key on coleman draft class who is a downfield threat gets open
12:30has uh a great separation score he gets open like it's crazy that was the story in indy he got
12:38thrown
12:38into the sauce garter trade yep and the reviews in new york are like this dude gets open all the
12:42time
12:42there's a there's a clip circulating away watching the break it's like a minute and a half
12:46of him just cooking the raiders all day last week what he has that the bills had maybe in josh
12:54palmer but maybe mitchell would be better at this oh yeah he puts fear into defensive backs they're
12:59gonna that he's gonna run by them right just you want a jets receiver maybe maybe maybe shift your
13:06focus to 80 mitchell that's not that bad of an idea cheap money you might have to pay the jets
13:12it's in division maybe in division they wouldn't trade you garrett wilson maybe they would trade
13:16you 80 mitchell on the third year of a four-year deal probably not though didn't the colts only
13:20get rid of him because he dropped a football at the one yard line that might be right he was
13:24seems like a bit of an overreaction they also might have done it because they think there's
13:28redundancy between him and alec pierce okay sure yes that's right maybe that's that's a good but
13:3580 mitchell i mean if i'm the jets he's cheap for two more years i'm not trading i agree with
13:41that i just think if you're if you want to get a receiver you know it's an idea that would
13:48maybe help your offense i bet though it's more likely that in the next year like deadline less
13:56likely maybe offseason if the jets are going to trade a receiver i think wilson's the one
14:00because wilson is the one that has all of the scar tissue of losing already that would force his way
14:05out mitchell that mitchell might think i'll get paid here this is working living in new york like
14:11he he might i don't know he's not going to cost what garrett wilson costs i wouldn't think so so
14:17if i were the jets i would just hang on to all three of those receivers draft a quarterback and
14:22hopefully i have a great offense for a few years could they also i've never had could they also try
14:25to trade for lamar could they try to trade for herbert they could but see lamar is one of the
14:31we did
14:32this the other day right there's like six players and nine players in the league that have a no
14:35trade clause yeah lamar gets to decide where he goes and i would be stunned if he decided jets
14:40knee-jerk reaction well price included who'd be the better offseason idea for a team i think this
14:47is obviously i was gonna say lamar or herbert yesterday we talked with mike florio about a
14:52couple different i would if you're herbert you cannot go to new york no you need to go to a
14:56competent organization no not even that you gotta go you gotta go somewhere they don't pay much
15:00attention to you because he's the darling kind of guy of film and all that and he is not he's
15:07putting together his worst season ever with the chargers who are i know it's la haven't won yet
15:12right not the same he if if he get if herbert got moved to a franchise where everybody looked at
15:18him
15:18as the hope i feel like the world would crumble on him but that's i need it sure i i
15:23think though if
15:24you're him i need to i need to get my career going in the right direction again like i you
15:31know what
15:31like if if stafford retired and i could go to the rams guess what i'm gonna be in the limelight
15:35but oh
15:36i get sean mcveigh i'll take that if i'm sean mcveigh would i want somebody else i don't know like
15:41would you rather go with ty simpson herbert is just so much reputation and all hat no cattle
15:48well it's a lot of stats and a lot of numbers so i like years ago and now it's just
15:53well how come
15:54none of it ever works i don't know i'd be i'd be worried about herbert two years ago he had
15:5823
15:59touchdowns and three interceptions and 4 000 yards like it's not that and then through four
16:03interceptions at a playoff game statistically this is his first bad season 23 touchdowns and three
16:08picks is a season where you just avoid turnovers 23 is not a big number
16:14yeah what year is that why why are they why were his numbers down that it was 230 yards per
16:19game
16:19that was also pretty low okay you're a game manager that's a tie rod season complimentary i i just think
16:27there is a talent level there that if you got him if you got him what caleb williams has right
16:33now
16:33with ben johnson or you got him what what mcveigh does or what shanahan does like somebody like
16:38that doesn't have to be like the top top guy but give me an offense and an infrastructure that can
16:44get the most out and be the next stafford stafford going to a coach like that and like bam he's
16:50a
16:50hall of fame quarterback now like that that's what i would be looking for if i were him on my
16:55next stop
16:55and i don't think i'm getting that with the jets 8030550 give us a ring on the bills if you
16:59want on
16:59the cj garner johnson release do you think they'll make a move for safety any other ideas we got it's
17:04trade deadline week see if there's some uh trades coming down the pike in the next couple days
17:09because uh the deadline is less than a week away you be one last night in overtime we're going to
17:14check in with brad and see how that game went and talk to him about uh you know whatever comes
17:17up
