Jeremy White and Sneaky Joe DiBiase are joined by Buffalo Bills beat reporter Sal Capaccio to discuss what we learned from the Bills first practice back from the bye week yesterday, and the injury report. They start with the injury situations, and Sal explains why fans shouldn’t be concerned about the players who were in red non-contact jerseys yesterday. Then they discuss some possibilities for the Bills to make additions at the trade deadline.

00:00Sal Capaccio joining us. I just had a random thought about the Brewers. Sal. Good morning, Sal.
00:07Milwaukee. How many teams have won both the American and National League pennant?
00:13Because the Brewers won the AL pennant in 82, right? And the NL pennant this year.
00:17The Astros have probably done it, right?
00:18Yeah, that's right, because teams that have switched.
00:20Yeah, yeah, the Astros would be a team that would do that.
00:23That's right, because they would have won in the 80s, and then they won the NL pennant.
00:27Well, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Did the Astros ever go to the World Series in the NL?
00:31I don't know if they did. They lost in 86 of the bets.
00:34What about 2005 did they go?
00:36I was backwards on them. I was backwards on them.
00:38Didn't they go in like 2005 or 2004, around there?
00:41But what league were they in then?
00:43I don't know. Let me look.
00:45They were in the NL. They were in the NL.
00:47So they won one NL.
00:48There you go. You're right. Okay, thank you.
00:50I'm much better. Mike was talking about this yesterday.
00:53I'm much better with older history than...
00:55We do this as we get older.
00:56Like, I'm much better knowing the 80s than I am the most recent history.
01:00I'm not going to lie.
01:01You're right about that, Jack.
01:02I'm not going to lie. I did not know that the Brewers actually moved from the NL.
01:05Oh, yeah.
01:05AL to the NL.
01:06So I think the reason that we know better the 80s than now is because that's when we were 12,
01:11and our entire life was an AL pennant versus responsibility and all that.
01:17But congratulations to the Brewers on the World Series.
01:20Yeah, and this reminds me.
01:23I tweeted something out about this during the Chiefs-Seahawks game.
01:28Jeremy, you would remember, Joe, I'm sure you wouldn't, the Seahawks being in the AFC.
01:34Yes, definitely.
01:35Right.
01:35But they never...
01:36Ooh, did they do it?
01:36The Seahawks were in the AFC West with the Chiefs.
01:39Like, I'm watching that game thinking, oh, my God, this is Steve Largent against Deron Cherry.
01:44You know what I mean?
01:45They did not...
01:45They didn't win both?
01:46No.
01:46When they went to the Super Bowl, they were in the NFC.
01:49They beat the Packers on the way, and then they lost to the Steelers in the Super Bowl.
01:52So it's probably...
01:53And they also played the Broncos and the Patriots.
01:56So they've done it as an NFC team.
01:57So it's probably never happened in another sport where you've won both conferences, right?
02:01Or both pennants, yeah.
02:02Or both...
02:03Yeah, whatever.
02:04Hockey's made...
02:04You'd probably have to go way back.
02:06Like, is there a team that now that, I guess, like, because the Braves, right?
02:10The Braves, I mean, maybe.
02:12Like, what were they?
02:13Because they were...
02:14Well, no.
02:15Like, moving cities, right?
02:17Teams that move cities might have, like, ultimately switched, I guess.
02:20Just searching it.
02:22I've got it as Astros and Brewers.
02:23Because that's it.
02:23In baseball.
02:24That's it.
02:24Astros 25...
02:25Good call, though.
02:26I didn't think about that.
02:26Yeah, 2005 in the National League.
02:292013 in the American League.
02:31You know who could do it?
02:32They're not near it right now.
02:33But if someday the Red Wings make the Stanley Cup with the East, they will have won the
02:37East and the West.
02:38That's right.
02:38So they could do it.
02:39Well, I mean...
02:40Same thing with the...
02:42Well, the Maple Leafs.
02:43I don't think they won the...
02:44They were in the Campbell when the Red Wings were.
02:48But that's at a time where they weren't winning either.
02:52You know what I mean?
02:52So it's been a long time.
02:53So good thoughts on that.
02:55I like that.
02:56Well, one thing I always think about it with any team that wins.
02:58And, you know, the one before I die mindset.
03:00And that thing about Bills fans, I'm sure there are Brewers fans that wanted one before
03:05I die.
03:05And they got theirs last night.
03:07They finally got the job over the line.
03:08So awesome for them.
03:10Awesome for small market, right?
03:12A place where it probably has mattered and generations of fans all together celebrating
03:16their first championships.
03:17So congratulations to the Brewers.
03:18Well, Jerry, you were not here the other day.
03:21And I...
03:22This is, again, me sounding like an old man.
03:26And Joe did not know that the Brewers, Milwaukee, or the city of Milwaukee, hosted the Packers
03:31for two games a year for 60 years.
03:33Yeah.
03:33They're the same city.
03:34Like, they're...
03:34It's like...
03:35And Joe made a good comparison.
03:36It's like Buffalo to Rochester.
03:38Like, if they did that.
03:39Yeah.
03:39Right?
03:40So Milwaukee and then the Bucs, obviously.
03:42Milwaukee's had championships.
03:44Yep.
03:44Maybe not the Brewers, but they've had championships.
03:46Yep.
03:46Yep.
03:47Sal Capaccio joining us ahead of Bills-Ravens, which will be Sunday, 1 o'clock.
03:51Weather looking great for this game.
03:52And the Bills back to practice.
03:54And, Sal, we got a lot from practice.
03:56Let's get to the injury report, because there's a...
03:58It's a lengthy injury report, but I feel like everybody's on the way where they...
04:03Whatever.
04:03In a good way, because the bye week gives you a chance to kind of rest up.
04:07Let's start with Spencer Brown, whose comment was pretty interesting about being given enough
04:12drugs for a small elephant and how the league signs off on it.
04:15I thought that was a...
04:16Sal, maybe a clever way to let us in on just all the things these guys go through, given
04:22it's a bye week, like, oh, it's your week off.
04:24He's like, yeah, well, I was going through it.
04:27So, you know, they're getting healthier, but they're not without their treatments.
04:32No, that's right.
04:33And that is a kind of a flare-up, I guess you'd say, of the back issue that, you know,
04:38happened in LA.
04:39And then he got through it in Vegas.
04:41And, you know, he's out west.
04:42Remember when that happened in LA?
04:43And he said there was a long flight out there.
04:45And, you know, it kind of stiffened up on him.
04:48And that's what happened.
04:49And now you come to a long flight back and you're recovering.
04:52And I think that it just got to a spot where it just became tough to manage for the week.
04:58And they're trying to manage it as they go forward.
05:01I got the sense, though, listening to him, that he feels like he'll play on Sunday.
05:04But, you know, there's no guarantee there.
05:06That's the one that, you know, he didn't practice.
05:07So, we'll see about that.
05:08He said he had a conversation with Joe Brady.
05:10Joe Brady knows that he'll do what he has to do to get ready to play.
05:15And they'll feel good about him knowing the game plan, the playbook, all those kinds of things.
05:20So, that's one who did not practice.
05:22And then you had eight guys limited.
05:24And all of them are in different buckets for different reasons.
05:27Because some are coming back and you're like, oh, you're getting him back on the field.
05:30And some are like, ooh, what's going on with him?
05:33But other than Spencer Brown not practicing, I know it's after a bye week and, you know,
05:38you don't want to see anybody.
05:39I think that's good news on a Wednesday that everybody seems like they're at least progressing towards playing.
05:44Also, some new injuries popping up, like chest for Dalton Kincaid.
05:49Is that like, what is, I don't know, Sal, like there are ailments that have appeared to pop up
05:55that we aren't really, weren't aware of going into the bye week.
05:58Well, it's chest because it's ribs.
06:00Chest for Bradley Chubb because it's ribs.
06:02Remember, guys, they both got hurt in the Raiders game.
06:05Right.
06:05They left the game.
06:07It was nuts.
06:07I know you were there, so I don't know if you know, Jeremy.
06:08They were actually announced as being injured during the game.
06:11Both those guys.
06:12They both left the game.
06:13They both came back later in the game.
06:15I talked with Dalton after the, after practice.
06:17He, you know, yeah, he said, you know, obviously he feels pretty good right now,
06:20but it's just something they're maintaining and getting through.
06:23And he said, yeah, the bye week came at the right time for him and everybody.
06:26But I would say both Chubb and Kincaid, this is lingering from when they got hurt in the Raiders game.
06:31They also both wore red non-contact jerseys, just like DJ Moore, who we can get to.
06:35And I like to tell everybody, like, it's so funny.
06:38You know, I get it.
06:39You watch online.
06:40I go to practice.
06:41You tweet out a video.
06:42You tweet out a picture.
06:43You get these guys in red non-contact.
06:46And there's like, oh, here we go.
06:47Red non-contact.
06:48And listen, man, let me, let me explain again, just so everybody knows.
06:52Red non-contact.
06:54It's red.
06:54It's like a stop sign.
06:56If somebody's dealing with an upper body injury, you're just basically telling everybody around them,
07:00be careful around this guy.
07:01Don't hit him when you don't want to hit him and, you know, get him a little bit more banged
07:05up.
07:05He's dealing with a shoulder.
07:06He's dealing with a chest injury.
07:07Whereas at Ed Oliver, he's got, you know, he's coming back from the knee.
07:11He's not wearing red non-contact.
07:13Not that you don't want somebody to run into him, but, you know, it's just more of a precaution,
07:17especially when you're dealing with an upper body injury.
07:19Well, for DJ Moore especially, maybe he was the most surprising to see non-contact
07:24because he gives off the idea that he could play through almost anything.
07:27They kept him out.
07:28Then they had the bye week.
07:30Could he maybe see a red non-contact jersey?
07:32I don't want to speculate the rest of the season, but were you a little bit surprised
07:36to see him in that?
07:37And maybe the Bills, with this coaching staff, with how they're going to work with the training
07:41staff, say, why wouldn't we just do this for every practice for the rest of the year?
07:44You're a veteran.
07:45Why do you need contact in a practice like this?
07:48Yeah, that's right.
07:49And just so everybody's aware, there was no actual, like, it wasn't a full contact practice
07:52yesterday.
07:52They wore their helmets and shoulder pads, but not their, like, padded pants.
07:57So, you're right, Jeremy.
07:58And when you do, and you have to have, you have limited contact at practice anyway going
08:02on for the rest of the year.
08:03But I agree with you.
08:03Maybe this is something that, as the season goes on, you'll see more and more of this
08:07just to kind of maintain.
08:09It's kind of like a vet rest day with a lot of guys as they get on, where, you know,
08:13we're just going to back off the guy on a Wednesday.
08:14And instead of that, maybe like, hey, you know what?
08:16Just going to wear a red non-contact.
08:17But, you know, DJ Moore spoke even after practice about how it hurt him to not play.
08:21Like, it hurt, like, to watch his guys.
08:23And he said he saw posts on X of him standing around watching practice.
08:27And that's, like, not something he likes to see.
08:29And, you know, he takes a lot of pride in playing.
08:31So, I wouldn't be surprised if there's some sort of maintenance that happens throughout
08:35the year with him until they really get him fully healthy.
08:38And maybe even then, you're like, you know what?
08:40Let's just not risk anything.
08:41So, by the way, was the TJ Parker knee injury new?
08:44Or had that been something we knew about also?
08:46I think that's a little more new from just kind of popping up and what we're seeing there.
08:53Yeah.
08:53And then the other one was D. Alfred's ankle injury also.
08:56Like, I didn't expect to see him on the injury report when it came out.
08:59So, today, Joe, if you get, like, I want to make sure today that these guys practice.
09:06Because if something happened yesterday, that would happen.
09:09Or was it just more of a, we just maintained them yesterday because of an injury?
09:13Right.
09:13Like, if Parker didn't practice today, then we would kind of know that something happened
09:16during practice on Wednesday.
09:18Right.
09:18And I don't think that's the case.
09:20Okay.
09:20Because I did not see or talk to D. Alfred after practice.
09:23I did see and talk to TJ Parker.
09:25And nothing seemed off with him.
09:27You know what I mean?
09:27Well, I'm interested in him because he's had a couple moments in the games leading up to the bye.
09:33He's still not playing a lot.
09:34Like, it's a third of the snaps.
09:35It's not a lot of pass rushes.
09:37And I guess I don't, I wonder, like, where there's room for him to grow.
09:42And it would have to be at the expense, right, of somebody else.
09:45And you're not taking Rousseau off the field.
09:46I don't think about Chubb for that.
09:48But I wonder, like, is there more opportunity to get him out there?
09:52Maybe Hoyt would be the name.
09:54Because Michael Hoyt's been out there, like, every third and long all season.
09:58And I don't know, like, what the numbers say on him.
10:00But I'm not really noticing him make an impact.
10:02No, you're right.
10:03I mean, it seems like he's really starting to flash a little bit.
10:08Really, he's kind of fit in and understand the defense.
10:10I don't know if he's the kind of guy you're going to move around as much as you would Michael
10:13Hoyt.
10:14Maybe.
10:14I think that's probably the difference there, especially as a veteran.
10:17And Hoyt understanding the different roles of the defense.
10:19And here's a rookie.
10:20And you want to make sure.
10:21So, I'd like to see that and what it becomes.
10:23Part of it is you're not seeing Bradley Chubb flash as much as maybe a lot of people thought that
10:28you would see that.
10:29But you like him, Bradley Chubb, because he's just a veteran.
10:32He understands everything.
10:33He's a very good run defender as well.
10:35But, you know, as this goes on, and especially getting Ed Oliver back, guys,
10:39I want to see what this looks like with the edge rushers and everybody around the D-line.
10:43Because I think Ed Oliver is a, you know, as much as he can be impactful himself,
10:46I think you saw the first couple games what he can do for those edge rushers when he's on the
10:52field in the interior.
10:53Sal Capaci with us.
10:54Sal, by the way, do we fully expect that it will be DeMar Hamlin that would start at safety this
10:59week in place of Gardner Johnson?
11:01I would see no reason why not.
11:03I think so.
11:04The way that the team talks about him, the fact that he's always been the guy to show up on
11:07the field if something happened to one of the safeties,
11:10I think DeMar Hamlin's going to be the guy that, you know, starts there and, you know, maybe this is
11:15a let's see what happens this week.
11:17You know, I'm going to call it like in my terms week to week, even though we know C.J.
11:21Gardner Johnson's coming back.
11:23But because of the way this has gone, because the trade deadline's coming up, all these things,
11:26I just think that's a tentative position, Joe, in what you're going to see.
11:29But, yes, I think as of right now, this week, DeMar Hamlin probably is the starter next to, I would
11:34expect, next to Cole Bishop.
11:35So the other thing that could be different personnel-wise with that,
11:38and I think we saw a little of this in the Raider game,
11:40is Hamlin, who had been playing some in dime, right, nickel, like whatever,
11:44before the Gardner Johnson got ejected in the whole season.
11:49Hamlin now being out there full-time probably means somebody else is going to be out there more part-time,
11:54right?
11:56Yes.
11:58To me, that's probably Jalen Kilgore.
12:02You know, if you take a look at, like, what you need in those situations,
12:07you're probably looking at Jalen Kilgore.
12:08Now, you can go with an extra linebacker.
12:10That might depend, Joe, on, is it third and three versus third and seven?
12:15Because you could go three linebackers.
12:16KEO could come on the field and be your extra guy.
12:19But I think Jalen Kilgore has earned a little more time after what I saw as well.
12:22And I know he got beat on that one play late in the game.
12:24But I'd like to see him on the field a little bit more.
12:27I mean, maybe something happens with the corners.
12:29You put an extra corner on the field with, you know, now that you have IGB getting more time,
12:34does that mean Max Harrison somehow they find a way for three corners to be on the field in those
12:39situations?
12:40So, yeah.
12:40But I do think that that will probably start to evolve a little bit here.
12:45Last thing on the defense for me.
12:47They last week traveled Christian Benford everywhere Brock Bowers went.
12:52And for the most part, it went well.
12:53I think most of the yardage that Bowers got was when Benford wasn't on him.
12:58And, Sal, they've kind of done that with Benford all year, right?
13:01Like, he followed St. Brown around a lot.
13:02He followed Nico Collins around a lot.
13:05I wonder this week if that will happen with Zay Flowers because he plays in the slot.
13:11He goes everywhere.
13:11He goes everywhere, and he's been incredible all season.
13:15I agree.
13:16I wonder, too.
13:17And it probably points to that, Joe, considering what they've done so far with Christian Benford.
13:22We had this same discussion last night.
13:24It's always game day.
13:25And Matt Bovey brought up the exact same point.
13:27It's a really good point because Bowers, if you go back, did you guys see Brian Baldinger break this down?
13:32Like, he did a good job on how good Christian Benford did.
13:36Like, he was real good.
13:37And I had Baldy on the podcast last week.
13:40You know, Matt's on paternity leave.
13:41So, last week during the bye, I had Brian Baldinger a couple weeks ago on the podcast.
13:45And he talked a lot about Benford and how good he did traveling with Brock Bowers and what that did.
13:51And I agree that here's a guy that he's done it against receivers.
13:55He's done it against tight ends.
13:57Why can't he do it against Zay Flowers?
13:58Now, that doesn't mean that he's going to hold Zay Flowers to, you know, three catches and 40-something yards.
14:03But it might be better than just letting Zay Flowers kind of go against different matchups that the Ravens want
14:07him to go against.
14:08Zay Flowers is great.
14:09He's already got 40 catches for over 600 yards.
14:12Right?
14:12I mean, like, that's incredible what he's doing.
14:14Their next best wide receiver has 18 catches.
14:17That's Rashad Bateman.
14:18It's incredible.
14:19Now, Mark Andrews is in there as well.
14:21But I think that's probably what you'll see.
14:23And then, you know, you go from there from what you get.
14:26So, speaking of receivers, Tyrell Shavers off the pup list and able to go.
14:31How does that change the room?
14:33What happens here, if anything?
14:35Shavers can, of course, give them special team stuff if he's available.
14:38I know the timeline might be a little bit murky right now.
14:41But, hypothetically, if Shavers is back and everyone's available, what ultimately happens?
14:49Well, to kind of make sure everybody understands the operation, they have 21 days to put him on the active
14:55roster.
14:55If he's not activated in 21 days, they lose him for the season.
14:58So, you think from now to the next three weeks, which, by the way, coincides over that time with the
15:05trade deadline.
15:05Right?
15:06So, you can kind of evaluate him where you are.
15:08What do you need?
15:09I'm not telling you that, oh, my God, they got to see if they need a wide receiver in the
15:12trade.
15:12But you never know.
15:13Right?
15:13You just want to see what your roster looks like fully formed while you get to that point and know
15:19what you need around the roster as far as numbers.
15:22If he's healthy, if he's ready to play, Jeremy, that's seven wide receivers that you would have.
15:27I mean, it's tough to see seven wide receivers on the active roster.
15:32But that's what it would be.
15:33You have more Shakir Coleman, Palmer, Bell, Dorch.
15:36And I know that I understand Bills fans who would immediately say, well, I don't need Joshua Palmer on the
15:43roster.
15:43Well, that's fine.
15:43I mean, but, you know, the Bills are still paying him.
15:46And he's the guy that is on the field.
15:48And I don't know.
15:50I don't think that they feel necessarily the same way of, like, let's just get rid of Joshua Palmer.
15:53They could.
15:54I'm not sure.
15:55But also, Skyler Bell just hasn't played a lot unless because of injury.
16:00Greg Dorch is only returning punts and kicks.
16:02He's not really seeing the field much as a wide receiver.
16:05Tyrell Shavers would only be a special teams guy.
16:07There's these niches for these guys, right?
16:10And if you're just going to have niches, I don't know how you have seven guys on the active roster.
16:13So I don't really know how that shakes out.
16:15It's a really interesting question.
16:16Now, unfortunately, as we know, sometimes injuries dictate this anyway.
16:20You get a week down the road and someone gets hurt.
16:22You're like, oh, man, well, at least you have this guy coming back.
16:25That's not the way you want to do it, but it does happen in this league.
16:28So I don't know.
16:29It's a really good question, Jerry, because you can't have seven wide receivers in the active roster.
16:32No, and it seems to me a little bit, I mean, the special teams element of itself.
16:36I can't have two of them that are primary special teams guys.
16:39Right.
16:40And that would be Dorch and Shavers, if that's the case.
16:43Now, Shavers, you call him a primary special teams guy, and I agree.
16:47But he played a lot last year.
16:48He did.
16:48He was used last year.
16:50And, you know, as a receiver, he even said yesterday, and we asked him about, like, the game in Jacksonville.
16:57He's like, yeah.
16:58And, you know, and I had a bigger role in that game, meaning, like, as a wide receiver.
17:01Like, they expanded his role.
17:03Now, that was out of necessity at the time.
17:05And, you know, what was going on in the room.
17:07Now, that's a much different room.
17:08Now, you think about it, I asked him yesterday, dude, I said, listen, you had, when you left
17:14that Jacksonville game at the end of last year, you think about the room now, you've added
17:17DJ Moore, you've added Skylar Bell, you've added Craig Dorch, right?
17:20This is a way different room than what he was in last year at the time of the injury.
17:24I guess I really do wonder in all of this, though, like, you mentioned, like, everyone's
17:28got their niche.
17:28What is Josh Palmer's niche?
17:30Because at the moment, he's, by the way, got three drops on the season, which is 27%.
17:35So, he's not doing that for you, blocking, and, like, I've got Coleman and Shavers that
17:40can do that.
17:41Is he just running the cardio Joe Brady routes?
17:43Because I remember that being a part of Shavers' game.
17:46Like, what is the thing, why should Palmer be treated any differently than Curtis Samuel
17:50was a year ago when he was being a healthy scratch?
17:52Fair.
17:52The only thing about that, Joe, and Sal, and get your thoughts on this, timeline, because,
17:56you know, you said the window for Shavers is open.
17:58The window to make a decision on a Palmer is, what, like, 10 days?
18:03You mean, like, as far as, like, a trade?
18:04Yes, yes, because if you're...
18:06I just don't know, there's two different discussions here, Joe.
18:09You're right, and when I say the niche part, you're talking about healthy scratch.
18:12I would not discount that.
18:13I'm saying, like, not being on the team.
18:15Okay, right.
18:15Because even if you're a healthy scratch, I mean, you're still going with seven receivers.
18:18Right, okay.
18:18Right?
18:19On the active roster.
18:20And I'm saying, like, I don't think you can do that.
18:22How do you have seven receivers on the active roster?
18:24Sure, you can make guys healthy scratches.
18:26You might have to have two of those guys as healthy scratches.
18:28So, I think you're right about that.
18:30Like, certainly, that should be on the table.
18:32That Joshua Palmer would be a healthy scratch, just like Curtis Samuel.
18:36And then, Jeremy, to your point of, you have, like, 10 days here.
18:40Whoever trades...
18:41If you were to trade, let's just do this today.
18:44Brandon Bean picks up the phone.
18:45He calls a team and says, look, you know, we're trying to offload some salary.
18:48You know, whatever.
18:50Joshua Palmer, he can help you.
18:51The team trading for Joshua Palmer is going to have to pay him, like, $6 million for the rest of
18:55the year.
18:56Who's doing that?
18:56Well, you're only doing that if the Bills are giving you something to do that.
19:00Right, and you're not...
19:01Right, that's right.
19:01Yeah, they're one of those deals where you take my issue off by hands, essentially.
19:05Yeah, we'll slide you from a fifth to a third if you take this money.
19:09But the Bills, I would think, Sal, are only going to do that, at least in the eyes of fans,
19:13if they're going to spend that.
19:15Right?
19:15You clear this space...
19:17Well, hold on.
19:18Go ahead.
19:19They wouldn't clear all that space, just so everybody knows.
19:21What would happen is, he has...
19:23This is a great question, because I've been asked about this a lot, and I actually asked about it yesterday
19:28around to make sure that I know how this works, okay?
19:31Joshua Palmer has an $11.6 million base salary this year.
19:36At the time of the trade deadline, it will be still 60% left of the season, okay?
19:40Right.
19:41So, 60% of that salary goes to the new team.
19:43The Bills have already paid the 40%, let's say.
19:45All right, so, you don't have to pay him anymore the base salary.
19:48What you do have to do, though, is, he still has three years left of a prorated salary bonus that
19:53has to get kicked in, that accelerates into the cap.
19:56Some of that would go in this year, depending on how it's structured, some of that in the future years.
20:00So, 1.3, 1.3, 1.3, you're still talking over $4 million, essentially, that would be left over on
20:06his salary, that some of that would still be accounted for this year.
20:09By the time it's all said and done, you might be saving a little bit of money, but it's not
20:13nearly that much.
20:14Good to know.
20:15For the record, I don't think they're going to pull this lever.
20:18It just, it gets down to, you'd have to be convinced about Shavers in the next 10 days to make
20:24a move like that, to clear the space for him, and for what?
20:27To save what?
20:28Would you think it's more likely that Shavers, so he could, he has to be activated, or he goes to
20:34the full season IR, his season is scrapped.
20:38So, it's not a player, you can, could you activate him and waive him?
20:42Would they run that risk and then bring him back on the practice squad?
20:46You could do that, yep.
20:47You could definitely do that.
20:48You could activate him for a day, and then you could release him.
20:53He would have to, well, let's see, actually, does Tyrell have four accrued years in?
20:57He doesn't, even though he's been in the league now.
20:59So, he'd probably, I'd have to check to make sure, he'd have to go through waivers.
21:02I don't know if anybody would claim him.
21:04And then you could sign him back to the practice squad as long as he clears it.
21:06Because, I mean, like, Shavers has value to the Bills, and Bills fans have a lot of respect for what
21:11he's done.
21:12But, like, league-wide, I mean, is that the kind of guy that's going to get scooped up?
21:15Maybe.
21:16The last time he was on waivers, he hadn't really played in the league yet, right?
21:20Like, maybe last year would have done enough where there's a team out there that would say, like, yeah, we'll
21:24take a flyer on him.
21:25Yeah.
21:25Right?
21:25Like, I feel like that might be dangerous.
21:27Like, it's just a waiver claim.
21:30You just need one bad team to say, we have a bunch of receiver injuries, and the Bills.
21:34We're just going to put him on a roster?
21:36Off an injury?
21:37Maybe.
21:38And he would be subject to waivers.
21:40I'm like, he came in in 2023.
21:42So your practice years do count.
21:43Your practice squad years.
21:44So this is only his fourth year.
21:46So, yeah, he'd have to pass through waivers.
21:48And that would be a risk, but certainly you could take that.
21:51I know a lot of receiver here.
21:52Is Greg Dortch doing also so much for them that he, like, has to be on the active roster?
21:56Doesn't he have elevations left if they could get him back to the practice squad?
22:03Yes, but let me ask you, who's returning punts once that runs out?
22:09We're back to a shickier conversation that I feel like we've had for, like, three years running, right?
22:14Right.
22:14I think that's the issue right now, right?
22:16Like, who does that?
22:17So, I think, is he doing so much?
22:19I think it's just more of a, I don't know what else I have to trust if I make that
22:25move, you know?
22:27Makes sense.
22:27And then, real quick, guys, obviously, big story yesterday, Tredavious White's return, right?
22:31Yes, yes.
22:32You know, we spoke with him for quite a while.
22:34You guys have a lot of that sound if you want to, you know, if Joe wants to dig it
22:37up.
22:37Because it's really good stuff from him just about, you know, talking to him about his role changing.
22:42And as a former first-round pick who comes in, former All-Pro, and now you are this guy like
22:48Micah Hyde was or Jordan Poyer was.
22:50You have this role where you're just a team player trying to help out.
22:53And, guys, he's running scout team.
22:55I joked to him.
22:55I said, wait a minute, you're running scout team.
22:56Did you replicate Lamar at practice?
22:58He said, Sal, I've been on the couch eating popcorn and drinking ginger ale.
23:02I don't want to pull a hamstring by replicating Lamar at practice, right?
23:05Like, he's the same old fun Tredavious, right?
23:08And I think at some point he's going to play.
23:11I just don't know when that's going to happen.
23:14Doesn't appear it's going to be this week because he's running on scout team this week, obviously.
23:18But at some point, and Jeremy, this goes to the point we just had about wide receiver,
23:22you kind of have to figure this out here by the trade deadline if you're going to do anything at
23:26that position,
23:27knowing you also have him stashed away here.
23:30Sal Capaccio, all Bill's things, including we got to the injury report brought to you by the Barnes Firm.
23:35If you've been injured in a crash, call the Barnes Firm, 1-800-8-MILLION.
23:39Thank you, Sal.
23:39You guys got it.
23:40Thanks.
23:41All right.
23:42All right.
23:43You know, as you said, Tyrell Shavers, we're talking about him there in the playoffs,
23:47like he had expanded role and expanded role.
23:48I looked at what he did in the Jacksonville game.
23:50He had one catch for 14 yards.
23:51He also tore his ACL and played on it and had a pretty big block.
23:56And like, that's a glue guy to a degree, right?
24:00He does a lot of things right.
24:01But I, like I said, as a founding member of the Shavers Truther Club,
24:06I do not really think that there's a lot of teams in the league that would claim him.
24:11He was on their practice squad for two, three years.
24:14At any time, a team could call and say, we'll take him on our roster.
24:18Never happened.
24:19He played a little bit.
24:20He got hurt.
24:22He played 400 snaps last year on offense.
24:24Like, all it takes is one team out there to say, hey, we don't have a receiver that we like
24:29for blocking right now.
24:30Let's put this guy for free on the bottom of our roster.
24:33Okay.
24:33If that happens, the lesson is you can get guys like that for free.
24:36Sure.
24:37And not to really worry about it too much.
24:39And I would also say they shouldn't be that worried about it because how's it going so far this year
24:42without him?
24:43Like, part of why he played that many snaps.
24:46They didn't trust Coleman.
24:47They didn't want Coleman on the field.
24:48Look at how much he played per game.
24:49The moment Coleman started being inactive because he couldn't show up on time for meetings,
24:55immediately Shaver started going up over 50%.
24:57Right.
24:57Like, before that, it was like a quarter of the time, a third of the time.
25:00But he had never played over 50% of snaps until Coleman got suspended, and that happened like seven times.
25:06So, you might feel like right now, we love Shavers.
25:09We love his blocking.
25:10We love that he can, you know, run down the field, cardio routes.
25:13But at the moment, Coleman is giving us that.
25:16And last year, at the same time, they probably didn't feel like he was giving them that.
25:20Right.
25:21803-0550 to join us.
25:23Jeremy and Joe, our thanks to Sal.
25:25The WNBA Finals have a game today at 1230 in the afternoon.
25:30Fun fact about the WNBA that I just learned, and this is amazing, awesome.
25:35So, the Valkyries are in the final.
25:37And it's only like their second season.
25:39Second season.
25:40They're in the final.
25:41Do you know what they refer to their home court as?
25:43The Valkyries?
25:45I learned this just in the last day or two.
25:48No.
25:49Balhalla.
25:51I had that, and Joe wouldn't turn me on.
25:54Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
25:55It's a coming at you, Joe.
25:56Slinging accusation.
25:58Balhalla?
25:58Balhalla.
25:59That's awesome.
25:59That's amazing.
26:00That's awesome.
26:01Amazing.
26:01Balhalla.
26:02Balhalla.
26:02All right, now I'm rooting for them.
26:04Right.
26:04That's great.
26:05Just incredible.
26:06I was mostly kidding, but then you said it.
26:08It is.
26:09Wow.
26:09It's actually bad.
26:10They call it Balhalla.
26:11That's awesome.
26:12Amazing.
26:13All right, we've got to get shots of audio at some point.
26:15Also, we're going to talk to Brian Wacker, Baltimore Sun, on the Ravens as they come
26:20into this game Sunday, 1 o'clock.
26:22Open the phone line for you on this Thursday.
26:24Unseasonably, no, seasonably warm.
26:26Maybe record highs today.
26:27It'll be very nice.
26:28So, enjoy it.
26:29Maybe some rain later in the evening.
26:31Jeremy and Joe on WGR.
