Apple's AI is finally headed to iPhones in China, and Alibaba's Qwen is inside it. 📱
On October 31, 2026, Apple's China Newsroom announced that the first Apple Intelligence features are coming to users in China, with Alibaba's Qwen built into some experiences. According to Apple, China Daily, MacRumors and The Verge:
• Testing starts on November 4 in the latest iOS developer beta, and the wider rollout is planned for December with iOS 27.3.
• Qwen works in three places: Siri can call on Qwen for some requests, Writing Tools gets "Compose with Qwen" to create text and images from a prompt, and Visual Intelligence gets "Ask Qwen" for what your camera sees.
• Apple says users will be asked for permission before a question, document or image is sent to Qwen. Alibaba says requests and responses will not be used to train its models (China Daily).
• It needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Siri AI and the other next-generation Apple Intelligence features shown at WWDC 2026 are not part of this first rollout.
• Other Apple Intelligence features in the first wave include Live Translation, Writing Tools, Clean Up in Photos, Genmoji and notification summaries.
