India's UPI just had its biggest month ever. 💸
According to NPCI data released on November 1, 2026 (as reported by Moneycontrol, Entrackr and The Statesman), UPI processed a record 25.47 billion transactions in October 2026, worth ₹31.53 lakh crore. Moneycontrol says it is the first month ever above ₹30 lakh crore.
The headline number: the average daily transaction value crossed ₹1 lakh crore for the first time, at ₹1,01,707 crore a day (about ₹1.02 lakh crore), up from ₹97,913 crore a day in September 2026. That works out to around 821 million UPI payments every day.
Moneycontrol links the jump partly to festive-season spending and notes that October had 31 days. Entrackr reports volume grew 23% and value 16% year on year.
One thing to watch: the planned 0.4% merchant discount rate (MDR) on eligible merchant payments above ₹2,000, first due on October 15, has been put off until after Diwali, with the new date yet to be notified (Reuters, The Economic Times, October 13).
