00:02Good morning. We are ridiculous. It is Friday. It's a football Friday, and it's the day before
00:11Halloween. We are in costume. We encourage you to watch along with us. Good morning. 97
00:16one, Jim Costa, John Jansen, Heather Park, Gov, and Greg behind the glass. I did not expect
00:29when we walked in. So we had the agreement that we were all going to wear costumes, and
00:33we have costumes. We got Luigi behind the glass. Hey, I'm running the board here. We've got
00:39Dylan Larkin as well behind the glass, or the hockey player formerly known as Dylan
00:48Larkin. Yeah, I'm technically not dressed up, but he's technically not dressed up
00:52either. Exactly. See there. That's why I'm Dylan and Royal Oak. Yes. John is a
00:58cowboy. I'm a cowboy. What's the belt buckle? I got this one. It's a Michigan
01:03National Championship 1997 National Championship belt buckle. Got my cowboy
01:08boots on. I am down to my backup costume. More on that in a minute, but I am an
01:13executioner. So I'm glad you explained that if anybody is watching on Twitch,
01:18because when you put the hood up. Oh, yeah. Without the axe. The axe in the shot? What
01:25do I look like? You look like, first of all, when it was like down over your face,
01:29covering more, you look more like the Emperor in Star Wars. Yeah. But then when you
01:37kind of push it back, you just look like a little shepherd boy. Oh, well.
01:42There, you see it now. Shepard boy. And Heather? And I am a crazy cat lady.
01:49A plus costume. Yes, A plus. You have now, the dream world has shifted. Now you are in
01:55Jim Costa's dreams. You should have brought in Roomba. I could have asked him, like, could you bring
01:59Roomba for my costume, please? He wants to know if Kelsey can borrow that later.
02:13Thank you for that, John. This is amazing. I love that we're doing this. Now, behind the
02:17scenes, Tom, there's a running joke that goes back to the Jamie days. Oh, yeah. Today, everybody
02:23dresses up on a Today Show. There'll be no show tomorrow for them. So, Jamie always kind
02:29of wanted some sort of tragic event to happen so that they had to present the news in costume.
02:34Costume. That'd be amazing. That's Jamie's sense of humor, man. So priceless. I never would
02:39have thought of that in a thousand years. No. No, but once you say it, he's like, could
02:43you imagine a 9-11 happening with them all dressed up? You're as a mime trying to break
02:48it down. That's so amazing. Dolly Parton as a man. Yeah. And then 20 years from now, they go back
02:54and they do the documentary and they've got everybody all dressed up in their costumes talking
03:01about this tragic event. Very serious stuff. Unbelievable. I also just love that we're doing
03:07this because I remember coming home from school and around the horn would all dress up in the
03:10Halloween costumes. We're having some fun. Yeah. Why not? And it's so to let everybody in behind
03:16the scenes. Yesterday here was when they decided to have the company dress up, which obviously
03:24they do that because New Year, or I'm sorry, Hallows Eve, which is today, is on a Friday
03:33and no one else here shows up on Friday. So if they had the costume party on Friday, again,
03:38we would still be the only ones dressed up because we are the only ones here. And again, if they
03:42don't like that comment, they can come in and say something, but they won't.
03:45We'll be nice to work three days a week. We won't see a Monday either. By Tuesday, they'll
03:50forget about it. Now, I told you this is the backup costume. I had paid for expedited
03:56shipping and they let me down. Oh, what was it? What was it supposed to be? You are the
04:03caveman on the show. Oh, you're going to come as a caveman? I was going to be Fred
04:07Flintstone. Oh, nice. And I had the club and the orange get up, but they let me down.
04:14Well, and you, I mean, technically you can, you could power your car with your feet. Yeah.
04:21But in a scramble yesterday, I go, Oh, maybe I can get something a little more fun
04:26for the show. I'm going to go to spirit Halloween. Terrible idea. Oh yeah. Two days before
04:33terrible idea. Picked over. What was, what was wrong? There were some options. There was one that
04:37was a, the container of cheese balls that I considered being okay. But by the time I would
04:42have found something I want, yeah, we'd had some fun with that today. The line was like
04:47when you walked in spiraling all throughout the store to the checkout, I would have been
04:51there over an hour, right? Just to get the costume. So this is from, um, we have some
04:56friends that do a big Halloween party every year and they do a theme. So they did medieval.
05:00Uh huh. So this is, this was my medieval costume last weekend. So, well, uh, tip of
05:04the cap, um, to, to Heather because hers is the most involved. Yes. And it was a DIY costume
05:10and I am not one to dress up. So when you guys mentioned it, you texted me, I'm like,
05:14Oh, dress up for Halloween. I don't have a costume. But then I thought, okay, well I'll
05:19dress up with my kids. So Emily is being a cat. Brooks is being a dog. And I talked to
05:24Emily, I'm like, what should I be? What can I be with you? And she's like, just be a cat
05:27owner, mom. I'm like a cat lady. Yeah. Perfect. Give me all your cat stuffies. Let's go. So
05:35you borrow the, these are Emily's. Yes. I did buy the robot Amazon and the glasses. Okay.
05:41Oh, you don't have those in your, uh, the back pocket, your readers with the little
05:45chain. The chain's great. Uh huh. Comments on Twitch. Heather looks like younger version
05:50of my neighbor lady. Oh boy. Time to get the paper. All I feel like I need is like catnip
05:56and a cigarette or something like I did. It would pull together even better. So does
06:01Costa. All right then. What are we doing today? It's a Friday, which means we got
06:15picks. It means cookie jar, some Halloween questions, some sports questions. Of course,
06:21we're going to talk Lions Vikings, a massive matchup on Sunday. We'll talk about the bears
06:25swinging a big move yesterday. A couple of first round picks for Jeffrey Simmons. Oh,
06:29and by the way, Dylan Larkin, no show taking himself off of the team.
06:36It's, it was manageable and we were all doing mental gymnastics in regards to, well, do we
06:44still like Dylan Larkin? Well, he, you know, he'd come out and had scored some goals, had
06:49some assists. You know, the wings are kind of in the middle of the pack right now. And we
06:54all thought, well, maybe there's a way to mend fences. And you even heard from Scott
06:57Horkoff, like he initially wanted to mend fences. And then all of a sudden it's, I don't,
07:06nothing's changed, right? The wings haven't just simply become competent. Like they can
07:12make some decisions moving forward to show competency. But Dylan Larkin said, I've had
07:20enough. This was the ugliest possible outcome. What changed is Dylan is no longer going to
07:27be a professional, right? He's no longer going to show up. And as a result, the team's now
07:31going to find him every day. And you said, he's not paying him. Well, yeah, effectively.
07:37Yeah. The same thing, right? Money coming out of his pocket. And you sent us the website
07:41that someone made. Oh yeah. It's, it's the Dylan doe.com, something like that. Yes. And
07:50it, and it tracks every second of every day, how much money Dylan Larkin is losing. This
07:56was inspired by, they did hella bucks in Winnipeg. So Larkin forfeits, I think it's 41
08:01grand a day. Yes. That he's not part of this hockey team. That's what's changed. He's no
08:05longer being professional. He's not holding up his end of the bargain. I agree. And, and
08:11this, I was of the mindset of, we could deal with it as long as he's out there playing and
08:19he's doing well for the wings. I can, I can overlook a lot of things. Guys make decisions
08:23professionally. I've talked about all of that. This one, this one, not just stepped over the
08:28line. This one, he catapulted over the do the D bag line. I just, I, I, I am.
08:35So over it. And now out of spite, and I, this is not how the wings will operate. Like
08:42they want to be able to get players to play now and they want to get them off the books
08:47rightfully. So they'll do that as quickly as possible. My initial reaction was, well,
08:54how long is this contract? Well, let them pound sand for four years. And, and, you know,
08:59let's just keep this meter running of how much money he's losing and just let him sit
09:06there to spite him. There were chants last night in a win, lowly Blackhawks, but in a
09:11win, who needs Larkin, right? Who needs Larkin? It is going to unify this team. They're just
09:18still not a very good team. And they're also not a well-run team. So that's the other caveat
09:24to this Larkin is now acting unprofessional. He's stooping to the low level. The wings have
09:29been at the whole time. I do not want this to be seen as now the wings are doing things
09:33right because they're not, they don't know how to run a hockey team. This doesn't make
09:36the wings competent. They still did no work on their general manager search. They still
09:41are unable to trade Simon Edvinson. And you said, they're going to try to work to trade
09:44Dylan Larkin in a timely manner. I don't know that they are. I don't know that they're competent
09:48enough to pull off anything when it comes to running this hockey team. But Larkin is now
09:52stooped to their level by not being the guy to go out there and play every night and try
09:57hard and compete. And you can question whether he was doing that even when he was suiting
10:00up. But my point is, yeah, sure. The wings want to trade him. Are they, are they capable
10:05of it? Do they understand how to pull off hockey moves? What changed? Why did he play
10:11for how many games and games or what? Why, why, why did he do this yesterday and not a month
10:18ago? Right. Well, so I think he tried to put a good foot forward. I think I know what
10:23it is. It's the Hellebuck trade. It happened last Friday. So in less than a week, they were
10:28out West. He gets back in town. They're probably talking about putting this in play. He probably
10:33talked to Hellebuck since they have the group text for team at USA. I think they're all starting
10:37to become a bunch of little bitches to be honest with all those USA guys. But if you're Larkin,
10:41you go, he didn't get punished. He actually got rewarded. I did it the right way. And
10:46my team couldn't trade me. I would have been better being a petulant brat. If I was a brat,
10:50I would have been traded faster. The guy's not a leader and didn't have the courage to
10:53do it. And he tried to put on this face. And then one of his little buddies on team
10:56USA did it. And he's like, okay, now I can do it. I can, I can withstand being suspended
11:02because I've got the money to do so. Right. And I'm not alone. Somebody else did it. So
11:07I can follow suit. I'm not going to be the leader. I fully agree with that criticism,
11:12but you see what he's looking at it going. If I had been petulant from the jump, maybe
11:18I would have been traded sooner. That behavior is rewarded. I'm not rewarded for showing up
11:23and taking the booze and scoring a couple goals. They aren't in good faith trying to
11:28trade me. I've given them 10 teams. They've known since May, right? They're not interested
11:33in hiring someone to trade me or trading me period. But he doesn't realize if he would
11:37have done this the day after the season, they probably could have gotten what they wanted
11:41to a degree. Right. His timing's been poor on every single thing. June is when he demanded
11:47it. Well, a lot of teams have decided how they're going to handle the off season. You
11:51know, it's, it's just, it's a wuss. You know what? And it's, it's like, I see the no trade
12:00clause that's in there. And, and okay, he earned the right to have a no trade clause so that
12:05he doesn't wake up one morning and he shipped off to Siberia. Like that is to me, the basis
12:12for that. He just doesn't wake up one morning and all of a sudden he's no longer a wing.
12:16He has say in that. And this has been weaponized to say, well, I want to go to the three
12:23most
12:24contending U S teams for the Stanley cup. Okay. Well, they're not giving up anything. And most
12:32of them don't have room for you to, to get in under the cap of the 10 teams. Most of
12:37them, if not
12:38all don't have a way to fit him under the cap. So if you're going to sit there and say,
12:44well,
12:44I'm going to hold you hostage and say, well, you got to send me to a contender, or now you
12:48have to
12:48send me to one of the top 10 U S teams. If you truly want to be traded and you're
12:53going to sit out,
12:54then completely remove the trade clause. And then the team can get what it deserves in return.
13:01You made a commitment. The team made a commitment to you. And there's no guarantee when you sign that
13:07contract that the team that you are signing it with is going there. They're not guaranteeing that
13:13we're going to be a competent franchise. We're not guaranteeing that we're going to be a Stanley cup
13:17contender. We're not giving you any guarantees other than we will pay you money. A lot of it
13:23to play hockey. And we expect you to show up.
13:29Another detail here. Larkin's contract was front loaded. He's actually received a large chunk of
13:35the money already. So he might be more than comfortable taking 41 grand on the chin day
13:41over day, over day, over day while the wings flounder. And some point you want to get something
13:49for him. Right. I know there's a punitive argument today of sit and spin for five years. Okay. So
13:56now you look like the organization that can't handle disgruntled players. That's the emotional
14:00response. And that was the response that I had yesterday. No, I don't want, I don't want this to
14:06be a situation where the wings lose out, but I want them to be able to get something commensurate
14:13for what he is. Do they understand they might not get exactly what they want?
14:19Well, then we're going to sit here and wait until we do. But part of this is the
14:25they aren't able to execute basic hockey functions as a front office. So they might think they know
14:32what they can get or should get for Dylan Larkin. Do you trust that that is of sound mind?
14:38No, I agree with you. Yeah. By the way, he's just lost over $52,000. John, you're just staying
14:44so big. I wonder if it's as big as mine. He has to now work out on his own, right?
14:49He should have
14:50to pay for that. Any of you hockey rinks out there? Don't cut this guy a break. He's a trader.
14:56Okay.
14:57Just because you know him, you have a relationship, whatever arena he needs to go to, make him pay
15:01for ice time. It's expensive. Yes, it is. Ask any youth parent out there.
15:07All right. We got feedback. We got phones 248-539-9797. We start with Dylan Larkin. We'll
15:13work our way to the Lions. Picks at 635. It's 97.1.
