Transcript
00:01I'm a little bit nervous, but I'm excited.
00:03I've not done anything to my hair for like a long time.
00:06And maybe I'm going to look younger.
00:08I'm not sure.
00:09I'm curious to see how it's going to be.
00:12Hi, I'm Thais.
00:14And today I'm going to get the Dua Lipa Inspired Two-Town Look.
00:19I want this look today because I've not done anything to my hair for like a long time.
00:24The celebrities that inspired me to do this look today
00:27is Dua Lipa and Brittany Xavier.
00:30I actually have this type of hair when I was like 17.
00:34So now, 12 years later, like I want to see how this is going to look on me.
00:38They're going to look younger.
00:39I don't know how it's going to feel.
00:43Hi, I'm Del Miller and I'm Master Colorist at Spoken Wheel Los Angeles.
00:47Working in the conditions that 2020 has brought to us, it's been a challenge for sure.
00:53But also, it's really brought kind of this sense of problem solving.
00:57When we are working back in the salons, it's 100% safe.
01:01And this is making sure that we put those practices into place.
01:06Natural hair is like a mix of Afro, curly and straight.
01:10Maybe it's because my father is black, my mom is white.
01:13I grew up in Brazil.
01:15Back home, I used to change my hair a lot because I had my mom.
01:18She used to help me all the time.
01:19And since I moved to America about four years ago,
01:22I've not changed that much because it's too complicated to keep up with.
01:27But now, I'm like ready for some change.
01:31Hi, I'm Lindsay Victoria.
01:33I'm a cut specialist here at Spoken Wheel LA
01:35and also a haircutting and styling educator.
01:40Thais loves her length, so I wanted to respect that.
01:43We wanted to give her a really fresh, clean line on her ends.
01:46She's growing out some bangs, so I just did a little blending
01:50just to diffuse the bangs into the side.
01:52Keep it simple.
01:56First with Thais, I want to make sure that I isolate where I want to add the block coloring.
02:01So I'm going to pre-section those areas before I apply the color.
02:05Next, I want to take small slices just to get even saturation through the hair with the Enlightener.
02:11This is to make sure that I get even blonding
02:13and so that when I go to tone it later, that I'll have an even saturation then too.
02:21Once I have all the block area colored and isolated,
02:24I'm going to begin in the back where I'm going to add a glossing formula
02:27that's going to richen and deepen her tones.
02:30I start out by first applying the color to the root area.
02:32This is to make sure that I get even saturation and nice richness at the base color.
02:39Next, I'm going to pull through each of the sections,
02:42making sure that I saturate all the way through the color.
02:45Some variations that you can do with this is you can leave some areas out
02:48if you want to add a little bit of dimension.
02:50It's really up to you.
02:51So have fun and make sure that you play around with the color.
02:58When we did this look for Brittany Xavier, it was one of those things, it was like, great, this will
03:03be really fun.
03:04I think people will see it and like it.
03:06But I didn't necessarily know that people would want to come in and it would have so much buzz.
03:11There has been a lot of people who've reached out that have really, really liked it
03:15and have been nervous about taking those steps.
03:17But then also a lot of people who've been really excited about coming in and seeing it.
03:21This is a color that will work for them.
03:25Finally, I want to make sure that I tone all of the block area.
03:28We have a little bit of warmth in there that we just want to neutralize.
03:30We don't necessarily want to take it ashy, but we want to make sure that it's nice, neutral, vanilla color.
03:38I'm going to take a small spoolie and add a little bit of the root dim.
03:41This is going to make sure that the hair grows out nice and even.
03:51Hair to me really means a new media of art.
03:55It's an installation that's commissioned that people get to walk around and show kind of my passion.
04:02It's such a fun and cool industry to be a part of.
04:05And I love that it impacts people every single day.
04:11Ready to see the big reveal?
04:13Yes.
04:14Okay, let's go.
04:16Whoa!
04:17What do you think?
04:19Wow, so cool!
04:31When I saw myself in the mirror for the first time, I was not shocked.
04:35I don't know.
04:36I was like, whoa, that's good.
04:38That looks me.
04:38It's not exactly like the Oipa.
04:40It's like the inspiration, but on me.
04:45I was afraid to look too young.
04:47You know, I already have like a young face.
04:49But actually, I feel more mature.
04:51It has like a little fun attitude.
04:52I think if you are hoping to change just a little bit of your hair, that is perfect.
04:57You know, you're wondering how it looks super nice and perfect.
04:58Yo...
