00:00Hi everyone!
00:01My name is Ash Hardell.
00:02I wrote a book called The ABCs of LGBT, and in my book, the best definition for genderqueer
00:08that I could personally come up with goes as follows.
00:12Someone whose gender exists outside or beyond society's binary concept of gender, often
00:17by not conforming to it.
00:19Genderqueer is both a specific identity and an umbrella term that describes a multitude
00:24of non-normative gender identities, people, and expressions.
00:27Now, the reason that I dig genderqueer so much to describe myself is because it feels
00:32really ambiguous and vast to me.
00:35That means it leaves room for some fluidity, some changes, and some uncertainty, which is
00:42how I feel about my gender.
00:44So it's a good match when I'm looking for a word that describes my gender.
00:49That's why I use genderqueer.
