00:00I wanted to bring you on because I feel like there is a story here
00:04for you and other Brewers fans.
00:08Explain what's going on in Milwaukee.
00:10Explain what's going on for Brewers Nation at the moment for this game
00:13because I know you don't want to believe it,
00:15but this is the first time you guys are 27 outs away
00:19from winning the World Series, and you feel what?
00:24Oh, man, it's just surreal.
00:26Well, being a Brewers fan has been part of my identity since childhood,
00:32and it's never been a big spending team, at least not since 1980
00:38when they went out and acquired Raleigh Fingers and Ted Simmons
00:41for what turned out to be a pretty good run at a championship.
00:45They just didn't quite make it in 1982.
00:48Might have won that series.
00:49I would still contend if Raleigh Fingers had not been hurt for the World Series.
00:53So, and I have old grievances, Matt, old grievances.
00:57But, yeah, so I had kind of made peace with the fact
01:02that it might not happen in my lifetime.
01:04You know, I'm playing the back nine, and I'm not on the 10th hole,
01:07and it just seemed like the Brewers were never going to get over the hump.
01:10But this team has arrived, and it's not like it's a team made up of old veterans.
01:16I mean, this is going to be the core of their roster for the next five years
01:24with Jackson Churio and some of these other guys.
01:28I mean, William Contreras, I guess, is a veteran.
01:31And, you know, Christian Yelich, who kicked off the crazy fifth inning
01:36by beating out a force play at second.
01:40You know, a replay challenge, and you've got the oldest guy
01:43in your starting lineup hustling to get to second.
01:46That kind of embodies what the team's all about.
01:49Oh, and by the way, the secret ingredient is Chris Hook, their pitching coach.
01:54Because every year there's turnover in the Brewers' bullpen,
01:56and every year there are guys I've never heard of
01:59who have phenomenal seasons under Chris Hook.
02:03And the Rays have kind of done the same thing over their history.
02:06Guys who have issues go to the Rays and get it turned around as pitchers.
02:10And Brewers have been kind of the same way.
02:12They've just revived so many pitchers and made guys' careers.
02:17Packer fans, Titletown USA, there's been a lot of success
02:22for Green Bay, Milwaukee with the Packers.
02:24The Bucs had Giannis for obviously years before this past season,
02:29winning a championship.
02:31Is this the most improbable in terms where most people in Milwaukee
02:36just reside to the fact that, look, we got a good basketball team,
02:39we got a great football franchise, baseball is never going to be our thing?
02:43I think so.
02:44But with this team, they made it last year, obviously swept by the Dodgers.
02:50And it was a young team, and they had this core,
02:53and everyone who was a devout Brewers fan knew that they also had
02:58the best-rated farm system in baseball and still do unanimously.
03:02So I think everyone knew they were going to get more bites at the Apple,
03:07but it didn't feel like this would be the year.
03:10So I think everyone knew that they were going to be the best-rated farm system.
03:10So I think everyone knew that they were going to be the best-rated farm system.
03:10So I think everyone knew that they were going to be the best-rated farm system.
