00:01And now, digging deeper with the teams you follow, it's another Sports Daily Insider
00:07interview on KFH.
00:09And that insider is Joshua Briscoe at JB Briscoe and his Wichita Wranglers hat.
00:16Appreciate that.
00:17You're going to have to now, though, Josh, switch to some TurboTubs gear.
00:22That is the rebranding.
00:24It is kind of that same color scheme you've got there, but one that at least me
00:29personally, I won't speak for Brady.
00:31I am so fired up for the rebranding to TurboTubs.
00:34I think it's fantastic.
00:36I do remember seeing that as the news was announced.
00:39Can you give me a refresher real quick as to why it's the TurboTubs?
00:43So I suspect that that may have gotten the vote to begin with, and they got a little
00:49scared of it.
00:50Why?
00:51But there used to be these things.
00:54Now, I'm not from Wichita, so I may speak a little out of turn here.
00:58I can be corrected.
00:58There were these tub races down the, of course, and here it's the Arkansas River.
01:05Correct.
01:05And so down that river, they used to have these tub races, and there is said to be like a
01:10little troll that lives under the bridge over there.
01:14So that's the TurboTubs.
01:16That's where it came from.
01:17I don't think I had actually seen the jerseys yet.
01:21Those are excellent.
01:22We're on like tequila sunrise kind of thing, but for a minor league team.
01:25100% minor league baseball, yes.
01:28I love the eagles at the front.
01:30So if you guys need to put me into contact with anybody, I don't know.
01:33I bought this Wrangler's hat, and I'll buy a TurboTubs hat if I have to, but if anyone
01:37wants to help on that, I'm open.
01:39Same energy.
01:40We'll get you taken care of.
01:41I spent most of yesterday wondering, I wonder if Josh is going to overreact or underreact
01:49to the Chiefs lost on Sunday.
01:51I am, if I'm guilty of one or the other, severely underreacting to it.
01:57How are you feeling about the game in Seattle?
02:00You and I may be sentenced to the same crime and for the same amount of time here, Jacob,
02:05because yeah, here's why I'm underreacting a little bit.
02:09Actually, there are several reasons.
02:10Let's go down the list.
02:11One, if they beat the Broncos on Sunday, that Seahawks game is going to fade away quicker
02:16than minor league baseball branding.
02:19You are going to move on before you know it because it's an NFC loss on the road, Sunday
02:23night football with a ton of injuries, issues at places you knew you were going to have
02:28issues.
02:29The Niners just lost on the road to the Falcons.
02:32That's a more problematic loss for them because at least in their conference, the Broncos have
02:37obviously had their share of, of toe stubs.
02:40And if the Chiefs beat them for a second time in the first like month and a half of the
02:44season, it's not the end of the AFC West race, but it becomes so difficult for the Broncos
02:50to, to get back in knowing that they've lost the tiebreaker to the Chiefs head to head and
02:54potentially two losses.
02:55The Chargers are out.
02:56The Raiders are out to two team race.
02:58They can almost not again, not quite end it, but really take full control with the win
03:02over the Broncos.
03:03So all of those things together, like I, I knew that there were going to be real issues
03:09against that Seahawks defense.
03:10And the Seahawks knew that all they had to do was stop Kenneth Walker because you're down.
03:15What I would say are your two most important wide receivers and Rasheed Rice and Taequann Thornton.
03:20We've talked about Xavier worthy some, and this is, this might be a little bit of an overreaction,
03:24but I, I was using the word important and thinking, I wonder if I've ever really thought
03:28about Xavier worthy as being important in the chiefs offense.
03:32He can be useful.
03:34He can be a player, but whenever you are losing Taequann Thornton was important to what they
03:38were doing.
03:38Rasheed Rice is obviously very important to what they do.
03:41You've, you've got worthy.
03:43And then Jalen Royals and Andrew Armstrong getting the next most snaps.
03:47That's not a real NFL wide receiver room.
03:50Even, even with a couple of injuries, that's a tough way to win, especially.
03:54Against the Seahawks, um, the offensive line and the tackles, not a great day, certainly,
03:58but I didn't think the tackles made that game unwinnable for the chiefs.
04:02And the defense was awful on third downs.
04:04That is something I will take with me third downs in the pass rush.
04:07We'll roll into Denver as well.
04:09But if that's a one-off, you know, return to form on third and long, we're going to go,
04:14okay, well, I'm glad it was against Seattle in Seattle in a game that doesn't really affect
04:19the standings all that much.
04:20So a frustrating loss to be sure, not the most fun post-game show I've ever done to
04:25be sure, but I'm, I'm with you there.
04:27If anything, I would underreact to that game and then double, double down on, on chiefs
04:32Broncos, because if they can pull out some magic, that's the game to do it in.
04:36Yeah.
04:37Josh, is there any concern you have on basically before Seattle, Kenneth Walker was just tearing
04:43things up, looking like MVP candidate and even like a so-so game from Kenneth Walker,
04:50which I go back to the Dolphins game, not over a hundred yards rushing, but still decent
04:55rushing yards, got in the end zone.
04:56He had a lot of receiving yards in that game too.
04:59Any concern of just how much this offense shuts down if Kenneth Walker is shut down?
05:05In a vacuum against the Seahawks.
05:07Yes.
05:08Big picture.
05:09Not yet, because I really do think that that was the, that was the weakest version of the
05:14chiefs passing game we've seen in quite some time.
05:16Cause it was the weakest version of their offensive pass catching weapons.
05:20We've seen in quite some time, uh, Cyrus Allen, who caught that pass in the second play from
05:24scrimmage, uh, he was the leading wide receiver in the chiefs box score after that game is one
05:30for 18, I believe.
05:31So I really, one of the things I'm, I'm definitely not taking from that game is that, is that there
05:37is a Kenneth Walker problem.
05:38I know that's not really what you're asking, but also like, I don't think that the reliance
05:42on Walker is a problem.
05:43If you have anything through the air, we knew the Seahawks defense was excellent.
05:49We knew they'd be able to stop the run pretty effectively.
05:52We played a clip on pregame, uh, might've just been on 96.5.
05:55It would have been on 96.5 here, but we played a clip on pregame from Mina Kimes of ESPN.
05:59She was on, uh, with Cody and gold here and, and she was talking about specifically the
06:04Seahawks ability this year to stop the run without selling out to stop it, being able
06:08to play their two high safeties and to just give up a numbers advantage and still be able
06:13to stop you on the ground.
06:15They did that against Kenneth Walker.
06:16And I think they knew that their first, second, and third priority in that game was stopping
06:21Walker and making again, all respect for guys that are, that are playing NFL games.
06:26But if Jalen Royals and Andrew Armstrong are the alternatives, you let them beat you and
06:30you make sure Kenneth Walker does it.
06:32Yeah.
06:32Look, we knew that too.
06:34Seattle wasn't good.
06:35Teams that load up the box on him are going to give up the big runs.
06:38Seattle, they just really good defensively.
06:41I, I'll tell you what, what I take away as far as a worry, maybe a, a, a post-season
06:47matchup
06:47against a really good defense.
06:48I think is moderately concerning, but for me, I still, I know I've said this a thousand
06:55times, that's not a good offense they played and it looked good against them.
07:00I still don't think this defense is close to where it's going to need to be.
07:04If they want to win a Superbowl, not saying they can't get there.
07:06They're very young.
07:07I think that they can, but they need to get a pass rush.
07:09Obviously I, I, they have got a big time Butker problem that, you know, big, but problem
07:19because don't we all, they play too many close games for him to, to be as bad.
07:24Now, I don't know what the solution to it is because I know you can't go get them easily,
07:30but this is a, this is a big deal.
07:34It is a legitimate problem.
07:36And you've already mentioned the problem with the problem.
07:39You want Harrison Mavis?
07:41Like, I don't, the only kickers available are guys who have been having problems.
07:45And obviously they're still paying Butker a ton this year.
07:47I think you can look at next year's cap hit and the moves you make next off season.
07:51That's all fine and dandy.
07:52We'll do that for months as soon as the season ends.
07:54But right now, he's probably still your best option.
07:59And like long-term, if they want to throw him on IR for a little bit, bring in a couple
08:02of kickers, have somebody else trot out there for a couple of weeks.
08:04I'm, I'm open to any of those things because it's, it's very hard to say, oh, we'll just
08:09do nothing and hope that it works out.
08:11But I also want to support on fourth down.
08:13If it's a 48 yard field goal, you, if you're going to walk me up to it, that's the one
08:17thing
08:17for me, that was a little bit of, of the, the straw breaking my back in that game, because
08:23it, that to me was the one, the one error in judgment in terms of what you've done with
08:29Butker to this point, you got to, you got to run them out there for the 58 yard or whatever
08:33it was the end of the half.
08:34There's no time.
08:36You've been a guy that hits long kicks.
08:38You're either making a kick or you're not, you're not giving Seattle the ball in good
08:40field.
08:40You got to go.
08:42So it makes, try to kick the field goal.
08:43Fine.
08:44He misses that one.
08:45He's had the issues he had this year.
08:46He's had issues reaching back more than just this year.
08:49And then you're in a place where it was, it was 13, three at that point, right?
08:51You need 10 points.
08:52You need a touchdown and a field goal to tie the game.
08:55You have not run a play from inside the red zone yet to, to say it's fourth and three
09:00from, I think the 27 it's fourth and three.
09:03And we're going to run out the struggling kicker instead of keeping our offense out there.
09:07That's a decision you just can't make in my book.
09:09It's a decision you might be able to make if it's automatic, but you have to acknowledge
09:14even if, even if you do think that Butker is your best bet for the rest of the season,
09:18even if you do think this is a bad streak and not who he is now, and I don't, you
09:23can
09:23have your own opinion about that, but even if you're an optimist on Harrison Butker, you've
09:27got to be realist.
09:28You have to be a realist and acknowledge that's not a push button, get three point situation
09:33and you need 10.
09:34So I would, and also earlier in the game, they were punting from midfield in a way that
09:39made me think, oh, they think they're going to get the ball back and have another chance
09:42to, to, to run their offense.
09:44And even as the defense struggled on, on third and longs, they didn't, they did not get run
09:48out of the game until that final touchdown when it was essentially over by then.
09:52Anyway, I absolutely think you have to adjust what Butker's range is.
09:56And, and if he's got to go kick a 52 yarder at some point on fourth and nine, he's your
10:02kicker on the roster.
10:02It's his job.
10:03Go do that.
10:04If it's fourth and three and you're knocking on the door of the red zone, you need 10 points
10:07with eight minutes left.
10:08You got to keep the offense out there.
10:10Yeah.
10:11And I was trying to remember after that, yeah, it was that missed field goal after that
10:14interception.
10:15So you, you intercept a Darnold in the end zone and get no points out of it.
10:19I mean, that was another big deal as well.
10:21They played like hot garbage and had a chance for a one score game.
10:25Absolutely.
10:25Yeah.
10:26Three, four years ago, Butker was a weapon in those situations.
10:29He ain't that anymore.
10:31No, now, now he's backfiring in a way that, yeah, it, I think we've, we've probably covered
10:36most of it because it is like frustrating and it's so mercurial, I suppose, where it's
10:41like, I don't, I don't know how to fix a kicker.
10:44And I don't know that there are 10 kickers available right now that would do any better
10:48than Butker in these circumstances.
10:50But that's to me why, like some of the coaching decisions and the way that the chiefs view
10:53Butker, that just has to evolve until further notice.
10:56If he gets back on the horse, we'll all be thrilled for that.
10:59In the meantime, you've got to acknowledge that you don't have a top five kicker, that you
11:02have a kicker who's been very inconsistent.
11:04You have to adjust accordingly.
11:07Josh, we've been talking about really kind of the opening segment, but definitely in
11:11the first hour, we were talking about the potential Garrett Wilson being on the trading
11:15block.
11:16How do you think about that?
11:18How do you think about Garrett Wilson as a Kansas city chief?
11:20I mean, if you gave me, I think if you gave me any player who I believe might realistically
11:27be available right now in the NFL, he's, I think the one I would pick.
11:31Um, there are a couple other receivers who I'd be happy to have in the mix.
11:35There are a couple of guys like Devante Smith's kind of interesting, just depending on how,
11:38how much the Eagles feel like rebuilding.
11:41And obviously their GM is in a much more secure place than their head coaches.
11:44So you might be a team that gets to, to be on the block that way, somewhat similar in
11:47New York too, I suppose.
11:49If I'm the jets, I'd be a little bit afraid of doing that because you do need building blocks.
11:53You already have a lot of picks at your disposal, but I would be, I remember going back to the
11:59year they traded Tyreek Hill.
12:00Cause I believe the report eventually was that they had the offer from Miami with multiple
12:05picks, or they had an offer from the jets.
12:08I don't know if it was like ever verified or not.
12:10They had an offer from the jets for what ended up being, I think 10 overall that they spent
12:13on Garrett Wilson.
12:14So ever since that came together, I have had in the back of my mind, like, man, Garrett Wilson
12:19would solve a lot of the chiefs problems offensively.
12:22I still, I still want Randy Moss.
12:25I still want Terrell Owens.
12:26I still want a big receiver who can go climb a ladder and get the ball and make life easier
12:31for, for Patrick Mahomes that way.
12:32But Garrett Wilson to me feels like the Venn diagram overlap of like the, the quote unquote
12:38Andy Reed, Kansas city wide receiver type, and a guy who is a legitimate number one, they
12:44could go get Jerry Judy and it would probably improve things.
12:47But if they go get Garrett Wilson and they got to pay them as well, but if they go get
12:51Garrett Wilson, that's a multi-year answer.
12:53And now, you know, not only who's your number one receiver the rest of this year, you know,
12:56your number one receiver is in 2027 and eight and nine.
12:59And however long that extension could go on.
13:01I am, I am very, very interested in the price for Garrett Wilson.
13:06Absolutely.
13:07Rashi Rice is 26.
13:08Garrett Wilson is 26.
13:10I'll lay out two scenarios for you.
13:12Scenario a cost you, it's called an average of $30 million a year.
13:17Yeah.
13:17Let's call it some pick, uh, pick 28 and, uh, and Garrett Wilson or just flat Rashi Rice
13:29at 30 million.
13:30That doesn't cost you anything, but the 30 million, which would you rather have?
13:34I hate trading away at draft picks because it is so nice to know that you're going to
13:40have that rookie contract, but I like, would you have given up the rights for Xavier worthy
13:45in retrospect?
13:46Yeah, absolutely.
13:48Woods, Peter Woods right now.
13:50There are guys I'm bullish on and none of them are Garrett Wilson.
13:53So yeah, I, you've got to be, you've got to be one heck of a player for me to make
13:58that
13:58call.
13:59I would very much rather draft a guy and pay him 8 million.
14:02And then even if you got rice for 22, you know, so yeah, you can, you can pay Rashi
14:06rice and pay your 29th overall pick or whatever it's going to be.
14:10I, that is my inclination with these specifics.
14:14I want Garrett Wilson.
14:14Yeah, I do too.
14:15I do too.
14:16I'm sorry.
14:17And I don't, I mean, you, you've done, we've done this long enough.
14:20I'm not usually in the wide receiver camp for the chiefs.
14:23Yeah.
14:24I love that player.
14:25Yeah, me too.
14:26I love that player.
14:27And, and he's, he's been awesome in terrible circumstances.
14:31It's not just projection.
14:32It's not like, well, just get Garrett Wilson, a real quarterback and you'll see how good
14:35he is.
14:36Everyone knows how good he is.
14:37And he has been in quarterback purgatory.
14:40I think if he got to Kansas city, he might, he might fall to his knees on the practice
14:43field upon realizing who his quarterback is now.
14:46I mean, he, he could make a lot of money by just playing for the Kansas city chiefs for
14:51the next several years.
14:52Yeah.
14:53Josh, we went through the list of jets quarterbacks.
14:55It's thrown the Garrett Wilson over the, over a short time there.
14:58It's like four or five guys, including like Tim Boyle.
15:01Did he get Gino twice?
15:02Was Gino still there the first time?
15:04No, not the first time.
15:05Yeah.
15:05He was, he was gone by then.
15:07Although Gino's having a pretty decent year, actually.
15:10Sure.
15:11So that's going to be interesting.
15:13And plus the other thing that we talked about, Josh, when it comes to drafting wide receivers,
15:18it's kind of a crapshoot unless it's, unless it's somebody, it's like a marquee name
15:23outside Marvin Harrison jr.
15:24He hasn't really panned out, but for the most part, it is hard to hit on wide receivers.
15:29So you can get a sure thing in Garrett Wilson.
15:32Boy, that that's a little bit easy.
15:33That's where I'm like, okay.
15:34Giving a draft pick away for Garrett Wilson.
15:37Cause at least you know, you're getting a sure thing.
15:38What's the latest on the Tyree kill talk.
15:41That seems to really have a cooled down as I kind of expected it would when, when the
15:45trial was going on, but it seems like it's really just cooled off.
15:48We're not hearing about him going anywhere, much less the chiefs.
15:51Yeah.
15:52It really does feel like with the benefit of hindsight, you can kind of, you can track
15:56the way that all of that went to be able to go.
15:58Okay.
15:58So Rosenhaus really turned the heat up right before the trial started and then the trial
16:02started and everyone's like, Ooh, this isn't awesome.
16:05We don't love to see what's happening here.
16:06And then it kind of fizzles for a little bit.
16:09And I think you also had like a workout video that made you go like, it's not, they said
16:12like maybe November and it might be late November, maybe it's December.
16:17I could see him still being in the picture at some point, but I do think that that, that
16:22now feels like a post trade deadline.
16:24Did we find, did we find plan a or plan B?
16:27If not, maybe there's still some, some meat on the bone there, but, but with the, again,
16:33the, the, like the off the field stuff has always kind of been around Tyree kill and
16:36the chiefs know what they're getting there.
16:38And I, I think they're pretty comfortable with that.
16:40That's pure speculation or just like learning from history, but it seems like if there was
16:44a place for him to land this year, it would still probably make the most sense for it to
16:48be in Kansas city.
16:49But there's also a reason they didn't jump the line to do that.
16:52I think that the sense of urgency seemed pretty much created by the Rosenhaus side of things.
16:57I'm sure the chiefs are staying in touch.
16:59I'm sure that they're keeping an eye on where he's at in his rehab, but he certainly doesn't
17:04do you any good until he was ready to be on the football field.
17:06So I think that's why we're back in a holding pattern there.
17:09Chiefs will play Sunday.
17:10You guys will have it on the chiefs radio network.
17:13I'll be honest, Josh chiefs by a million.
17:15They're one and a half road dogs.
17:18Denver sucks against the run this year.
17:22This should be a get right game for the defense because their offense, although it looked good
17:26last week, I don't think is probably very good.
17:29No, it sounds like you're sharing a brain on that.
17:33Yeah, I, I, I do kind of a big picture hope that Bo Nix is just good enough to get
17:38paid
17:38$45 million a year.
17:40This off season, I, I would like for that experiment to continue.
17:44I think that even with the run defense point there at duly noted, the Broncos defense is
17:50good enough and they have enough players in enough places that like they're, they are a
17:53legitimate playoff team.
17:54Like they are going to be in that mix and because you've got a lot of imperfect, deeply
17:58flawed teams who are also one of the 12 or 15 best teams in football, the Broncos are
18:04in that grouping.
18:04I really do think it's important that you get Rishi Rice back for this game.
18:09And I really hope that we get good news on the injury front for him tomorrow.
18:12And I, again, this is like, this is not me just remembering training camp.
18:16I'm just looking for a spark somewhere.
18:18If it's not Rishi Rice, it's gotta be a Cyrus Allen game where not even that he has to have
18:23120 yards receiving, but you have to do enough in the passing game to remind the Broncos that
18:29they are bad against the run.
18:30You have to do just enough.
18:32Cause if, if I'm, if I'm the Broncos right now, I'm thinking, okay, well, we'll just,
18:36we'll build the entire defensive game plan around stopping Kenneth Walker.
18:39And we'll try to replicate what the Broncos did, what the, what the Seahawks did.
18:43The Seahawks run defense is extraordinarily better than the Broncos run defense.
18:48Secondaries, both pretty good.
18:49Suddenly Patrick Sertan should be back for this game.
