00:00Nico Collins is in the house.
00:02All right, Ben, we're going to go a little long here.
00:03You're listening to KIKK FM, KIKK AM, Houston, an Odyssey sports station,
00:09as I just mentioned it.
00:11Seven catches, I believe 118 yards, a couple of touchdowns.
00:14Great to have him back on the field today.
00:16Unfortunately, the final score wasn't what we all wanted,
00:18but good to have Nico Collins back,
00:20and great to have him here on the Fit Down Show here on Texans Postgame.
00:24Nico, it's great to see you.
00:26I know disappointment in the outcome today.
00:28How's the mood of the guys right now?
00:30Man, you know, it's exactly what it would feel like.
00:32You know, we disappointed in that loss.
00:35It was a great week of preparation, man, great week of grinding,
00:38fought our tails off, but just fell short.
00:40You know, it is what it is.
00:40What happened is leave, man.
00:41When you go against the best, Dallas is a great team.
00:44You got to come out, man.
00:45Every play matters, and every rep matters, you know,
00:48but we just fell short, and I feel like now we just got to take that under the chin,
00:51find ways to get better, and keep moving forward.
00:53Nico, does it get – I mean, obviously the obvious answer is yes,
00:56but four games in, the struggle, you know, gets a little bit more difficult
01:00when you're winless in those situations.
01:02So I think the messaging obviously has to change,
01:05or you risk kind of, you know, turning a deaf ear to it.
01:08What does that look like for you guys?
01:10I know a lot of it is – especially for a guy your caliber,
01:13a lot of it's looking inside and coming from Nico.
01:15Yeah, no, no doubt, man.
01:16I feel like, man, just keeping the main thing the main thing, you know,
01:18just because we didn't start off as fast as everybody hopes so.
01:21Don't mean the season over right now, you know.
01:22And if a bad play happens, it's all right.
01:25We don't have to put our heads down, bro.
01:27It's like – I feel like we just got to continue to keep going,
01:29remember who we are as a team, and just continue to move forward, man.
01:33Like I said, we 0-4, and it's all good.
01:35The season's not over.
01:36It's still a long run.
01:37We can flip this like this, you know.
01:39So I'm going to start next week.
01:40It's Tennessee on the road, man.
01:41Just 1-0.
01:42I feel like we just got to go 1-0, man, and start tomorrow.
01:45Great preparation for the week.
01:47Continue to keep going, man, and get ready for Tennessee.
01:50But I – Nico Collins is joining us here in the Hyundai Texans studio
01:54here on the Fit Down Show, the Texans postgame show.
01:57I hate that I'm having to ask this question because it's been two years now.
02:00You guys went 0-3 last year and 0-4 this year.
02:02Is there anything – I mean, and it's right after a loss.
02:04I understand you probably haven't sat back and sort of assessed everything.
02:07But is there any way to like either compare the two in terms of the feeling
02:13like your ability to – I mean, you guys came out of it last year.
02:16Does this one feel different at all or like does that experience help?
02:20Yeah, I mean, I'm not really sure.
02:22I mean, I know last year we started off slow.
02:24This year we started off slow again, and then we flipped it.
02:26But like I said, man, I feel like it comes down to just one game at a time,
02:29you know, to the finer detail and finishing those games like that.
02:32And when you know in the NFL it really comes down to the last possession,
02:35that last play, you know, because in the league everybody's great, man.
02:38So it comes down to the finer details.
02:40And like I said, I mean, you're 0-4, but you got to go 1-0, man.
02:44And there's no better feeling to go 1-0 this week as Tennessee on the road.
02:47Well, hey, look, it's no knock to anybody else.
02:50I don't want you to think the question is coming from that perspective.
02:52But clearly, before you walked in here, I said,
02:54I'm not sure Nico Collins isn't legitimately the most valuable player
02:57in the damn league right now.
02:59I mean, the offense, for whatever reason, obviously you're a great player,
03:03but for whatever reason, when you're on the field, I mean,
03:05it's just a different offense.
03:07I mean, you played two games.
03:08Y'all put up 30 points apiece, right?
03:10I mean, just, you know, why do you think there's such a fall off?
03:15And, hell, I guess the bigger question is how's your damn hamstring?
03:17Yeah, it's great.
03:18I'm great.
03:19Let's let the people know that we got a chance.
03:21That's probably the biggest question people are asking right now.
03:24How do you feel?
03:24I'm great, man.
03:25I'm blessed that I was able to suit up with my teammates, man,
03:28run through that tunnel and finish the whole game, man.
03:31I feel like there's no better feeling.
03:32You know, you work your tail off and, you know,
03:34it's tough to be unfortunate, you know, but I'm great.
03:37Fair enough short today.
03:38Got it lost, but it's all good.
03:39But, I mean, I finished the game.
03:41Thank God for that, man, on the next week.
03:45We've been talking quite a bit about CJ in the open of the show here positively.
03:48I think, you know, CJ to us has been a bright spot so far.
03:52Can you take us kind of inside and what it's been like with CJ this year
03:55in the huddle behind the scenes?
03:56Yeah, man.
03:56CJ's the same guy that he was when he came in, man.
03:58Just calm, poised, and a leader.
04:01And we all know he's a leader, man.
04:03And we know that we got his back and her center in the way.
04:06Yeah, we starting off slow, but it is what it is, man.
04:09We got to continue to move forward, continue to get that first dub, man.
04:13But, man, CJ, he's excellent.
04:14You know, he's the perfect person for the quarterback position, man,
04:18and no better person to lead this team.
04:20Nico, what's the – I want to go inside your head when the ball's in the air
04:25because, I mean, you put on an absolute clinic for, like, young wide receivers, right?
04:29I mean, the first touchdown you caught week one, you know, of course,
04:32most people just watch it and go, hey, that's a good touchdown, good throw.
04:35Hey, let's keep it moving.
04:36Yes, sir.
04:36But the very last seconds you put your foot in the ground
04:39and you attack the football in the air for maybe 12 inches,
04:42but that 12 inches matters.
04:43You did it, I mean, two or three or four times today,
04:47whether it's just bending slightly back to the ball
04:49or attacking the ball with your hands.
04:50Yeah.
04:50I mean, tell us a little bit about kind of how you develop –
04:54because that's not – I mean, some guys in the league do it.
04:56I mean, but a lot of guys in the league just do it with some kind of freakish ability.
04:59But, like, that is a technique and mechanic that just most,
05:02even NFL-wide receivers, don't execute.
05:05Yeah, I feel like that's something I've always been working on
05:07just since I was coming through middle school, high school, just attack the ball.
05:11I feel like your coaches always tell you, just go meet the ball.
05:13Don't be afraid.
05:14Use your hands.
05:15Especially in this league, man, just great corners, great DBs,
05:18and it's hard to get over, you know.
05:20So you got to come down to the finer details, you know.
05:22How much can you trust your technique, trust your training,
05:24trust your ability to go make this play.
05:26And when I see the ball in the air and I see them laces, man,
05:29just my mindset is mine, you know, and, like, I got to go get it.
05:31And I don't care how – it's negative, short throw.
05:34I know I got to say I got a 20-yard in route, but I'm about to go get it
05:37and just get this catch.
05:39I don't care if it's a 14-yard catch, 10-yard catch.
05:40I just want to catch it, you know.
05:42So I feel like just having aggressive hands, man, and just going to meet the ball.
05:45I feel like it gives you opportunity to see what's going on,
05:48see what the DB plan, you know, make a miss.
05:50And just be a playmaker, bro.
05:52Just play ball.
05:53I feel like that's it.
05:54Just play ball.
05:55Hey, you want to talk being quarterback friendly right there.
05:58If you got a receiver – well, I mean, just the – you know,
06:00I mean, the ability to just say, hey, man, if it's in the air, it's mine.
06:03I'm going to attack the ball.
06:04I'm going to bend my stem back down.
06:05I'm going to – two hands, you know.
06:06I mean, that is – golly, just spin it 12th way, man.
06:09Yeah, absolutely.
06:10Well, and before we get you out of here, last one, before we get you out of here,
06:14you got involved right away in the offense today.
06:16You know, the slant, you took it 45 yards.
06:18When you miss a couple weeks like you just did,
06:21for you to be able to impact something that early in the game
06:24and also just know, like, okay, everything works.
06:27You know, like the hammy's good in a game situation.
06:29Can you describe what that felt like early on in the game?
06:32It felt good.
06:32It felt great, man.
06:33You know, it's a confidence thing.
06:35You know, haven't ran that fast, you know, since probably two days ago in practice.
06:40But, you know, just to get that game feeling, man, run a Chevy, see the ball in the air
06:44and get it and just strike out, man, 45 yards is no better feeling.
06:47And getting up and just feel the excitement from your teammates, sideline, fans, man,
06:52it's no better feeling than giving that momentum and that adrenaline just to keep going,
06:56keep going for the team, for the city, and just going for yourself.
06:58You know, I feel like you know what you're capable of doing.
07:01I feel like there's no better way to just go out and showcase what you're capable of doing.
07:04Ball security, too.
07:05Nick always gets two hands on the ball when guys are starting to poke away at it.
07:08Ball security.
07:09You're like, I attacked that ball in the first place.
07:11I got to hang on to it.
07:12I'm going to be honest.
07:12I'm going to be honest with you, Nico.
07:14That head and hamstring you got over there, boy, that long pass was great,
07:17but I'm going, not this early day.
07:18I'm getting stretched out yet.
07:20Hang on, man.
07:22Hey, before Sean gets you out of here, though, I got a question.
07:25I want to know the fragrance of choice that you're wearing and what's in that cup right there.
07:29In this cup, so I'm wearing Chanel.
07:32Okay.
07:33I don't know if I can afford that.
07:34That sounds expensive, y'all.
07:35Yeah.
07:35My wife likes it.
07:36Come on.
07:37Chanel.
07:37I just got it on with it.
07:38Last year, and it's in the smoothies, just strawberry, banana, a little protein, collagen
07:43for your joints.
07:45Yeah, and that's it, man.
07:46Oh, good.
07:46I'm about to go eat dinner right now.
07:47Okay.
07:48Yeah, with the cream.
07:49Just had to stop by kicking what you got.
07:50I appreciate it, Nico.
07:51We always appreciate you, man.
07:53Hey, it was great to have you back on the field today, and hopefully next time we're talking,
07:58it's after a win.
07:59It's a dub.
07:59Yeah, absolutely.
08:00Absolutely.
08:01The great Nico Collins jumping in with us here on the Fit Down Show here on Texans Post Game.
08:05All right, when we come back, we will hear from head coach D'Amico Ryans and his press conference.
