00:00You backstabbin' my flippin' cockroach!
00:03Hey, hey! What do you say? One last trip around the neighborhood, winner takes the tape.
00:09Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today, we're reminiscing about some of the PS2's best endings that have stuck with us
00:16for well over two decades.
00:18When will we be in range?
00:21Oh, I'm sure something will come along in, say, five or ten thousand years?
00:26Ah! I don't believe this!
00:30Before we continue, be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest
00:35videos.
00:38Okami
00:38The longer you play Okami, the grander in scale the entire narrative becomes, spanning multiple worlds, reincarnations, and an eternal
00:47fight against the forces of evil.
00:49As the final battle grows even closer, the full scope of Orochi's evil is revealed, having nearly wiped out all
00:55the celestial gods before unleashing his demons on Earth.
00:59Joining forces with Wakka to battle the machine god Yami, Amaterasu is almost killed until Issun calls on all the
01:06people Amaterasu had helped in her journey to join, giving Amaterasu the chance to regain her strength and finally defeat
01:13Yami and save all of Nippon from the demon hordes.
01:16With the final battle over, Amaterasu and Wakka set out into the stars to rebuild the land of the gods,
01:22the Celestial Plains.
01:24A true mythological classic tale of good versus evil that is sure to stick with you long after the credits
01:30roll.
01:31Thank god we're finally getting a sequel, Kingdom Hearts.
01:34Take a look at this tiny place. To the heart seeking freedom, this island is a prison, surrounded by water.
01:45After venturing to all manner of fantastical worlds, it only makes sense that Sora, Donald and Goofy's final confrontation with
01:53Ansem takes place at the end of the world.
01:56Sora finds Ansem on the island where his adventure first began and the group battle Ansem's increasingly powerful forms.
02:03Ansem finally opens the door to Kingdom Hearts, but is ultimately vanquished by the light from within the door.
02:09Seeing the endless groups of Heartless inside the door, Sora, Donald and Goofy desperately try to reseal the door,
02:15only for Riku and King Mickey to appear and help them close it from both sides, locking the army of
02:21Heartless as well as Mickey and Riku inside.
02:23As the world crumbles around them, Sora promises Kairi he'll find her again,
02:28and after Kairi relives some of her favorite memories on the island with her friends,
02:32we find the trio pledging to find King Mickey and Riku.
02:42Bully
02:42People used to be scared of me and now I'm a joke!
02:45It's scary!
02:45It must have been!
02:46I know! I can't deal with the fact that that kid beat me!
02:49Well it ain't over yet!
02:49Bully might not have been on the same scale as Rockstar's GTA series,
02:54but they still managed to craft a story that not only felt appropriate for the age group within the game,
02:59but also had enough stakes and compelling characters to keep players invested until the end.
03:04After convincing the townies to join his fight against school bully Gary,
03:08Jimmy and the townies take down the other school cliques and set off to rescue Principal Krabblesnitch
03:12and finally confront Gary once and for all.
03:15Their conflict ends with Krabblesnitch freed and Gary expelled for good
03:19and the school staff getting some much needed housekeeping.
03:22With the worst behind them, Jimmy and the rest of the school celebrate their victory
03:26with Jimmy and his crush Zoe sharing a long overdue kiss.
03:30It's the kind of feel-good ending every kid hopes for after a long school year.
03:34But life is certainly going to get easier.
03:42Mafia.
03:42It looks like you underestimated your new partners.
03:46Maybe you ought to change sides.
03:48It's still not over, Tom!
03:50Mafia has one of the best stories on the PS2,
03:53perfectly recapturing the magic of Martin Scorsese crime epics like Goodfellas.
03:58Naturally, there is quite a lot of backstabbing and double-crossing
04:01as members of the family attempt to climb the ranks by any means necessary.
04:05The walls are closing in on our protagonist Tommy Angelo
04:08and for the safety of his family, Tommy agrees to flip on the Soleri crime family
04:13in exchange for a reduced sentence and witness protection.
04:16However, your past is never far behind you and family never forgets.
04:21Years after settling down in a quiet life,
04:23Soleri is still out for revenge
04:25and sends a couple of hitmen to track Tommy down,
04:28gunning him down on his own front lawn.
04:30Every choice has a consequence
04:32and unfortunately, Tommy's caught up with him in the end.
04:36Mr. Angelo!
04:38Uh, yes?
04:41Mr. Salieri sends his regards.
04:44Ace Combat 5, The Unsung War
04:46You wouldn't expect an Ace Combat game to have one of the best storylines
04:50on the PS2, but here we are.
04:52With nuclear war on the horizon,
04:54the player leads one final assault against the Grey Men,
04:57a paramilitary group determined to ignite a new world war,
05:00and destroy their weapons facility before they can put their nefarious plans in action.
05:04Flying through a series of narrow tunnels that would make Mavericks sweat,
05:08with nothing but the encroaching walls on either side
05:10and the endless radio chatter urging you further underground,
05:13escaping the facility is only the beginning of the end.
05:17In one final push to cause as much destruction as possible,
05:19the Grey Men de-orbit their satellite with plans to crash it,
05:23and it's only by pursuing the space junk and destroying it mid-air that the day is safe.
05:28With the threat finally neutralized for good,
05:31the pilots come home and longtime ally Pops finally retires.
05:35Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal
05:51Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal is the pinnacle of the Ratchet and Clank series,
05:55and we won't be convinced otherwise.
05:57Introducing gameplay mechanics that would shape the series going forward,
06:01including fan favorite bumbling villain Dr. Nefarious,
06:04Up Your Arsenal features some of the series' most clever writing and trademark humor,
06:09while also allowing its characters to grow in meaningful ways.
06:13As the game approaches its epic conclusion,
06:15the dynamic duo must contend with multiple galaxy-ending threats
06:18in increasingly climactic battles that even give longtime fumbling would-be hero Captain Quark
06:24his much-deserved redemption arc,
06:26coming to the boys' aid in their greatest moments of need.
06:29With Nefarious defeated and exiled to parts unknown,
06:32the pair relax in their well-deserved accolades and much-needed rest
06:36before their next galaxy-hopping adventure.
06:45Do not even think about it.
06:47Twisted Metal Black
06:48As much as I had those old urges of mine,
06:51I kept them to myself for the moment.
06:54I figured I'd play along with his little game.
06:57After all, I could always kill him later.
07:01Twisted Metal Black is one of the rare cases on our list
07:04where there are multiple endings
07:06because every character gets their own personal storyline and conclusion,
07:10and somehow, every one of them is fitting for their character.
07:14With a dozen possible playable characters,
07:16it would have been easy for more than a few of them to be subpar,
07:19but every character's wish at the end of the competition
07:22is filled with unforeseen consequences.
07:25While none of them are what could be considered happy endings,
07:28they are some of the darkest and most appropriate endings
07:31for such a group of twisted and demented characters
07:34in what is by far the series' most mature outing.
07:37The brilliant use of Rolling Stones' classic paint it black
07:40playing over the credits of every ending
07:42is just the peak of the developers crafting a vision
07:44and sticking with it through to the end.
07:47It took me all of ten seconds.
07:50Let's face it, boys and girls.
07:52A man has to have his priorities.
07:55Second Sight
07:56John, you've got to understand.
07:58You're not really here.
08:00What do you mean?
08:01This is not the present.
08:02This is a possible future.
08:05But I...
08:06I've been here already.
08:07John, don't lose yourself.
08:09Stay focused.
08:10Any time a story has a protagonist with amnesia,
08:13it's all too easy to fall into the unreliable narrator territory with the narrative,
08:17especially in one with as much time-hopping flashbacks as Second Sight,
08:21but thankfully, even with its conspiracy-laden plot,
08:25it never becomes too complicated for its own good.
08:27The realization that the flashbacks were actually present day
08:31was a mind-blowing realization and reframed all the events of the game.
08:35Using his newfound ability, Precognition, to foresee the future,
08:39John confronts the scientists responsible for all the inhumane experiments.
08:43John then unleashes the many children held captive,
08:46allowing them to enact their revenge for all the torment they'd endured.
08:50While most games would have allowed the player to have a big climactic battle against the final boss,
08:54this was infinitely more satisfying.
08:57Don't touch me!
08:58Ah!
08:58Don't bit me, you little bastard!
09:02Ah!
09:04Ah!
09:05Ah!
09:07Ah!
09:08Ah!
09:09Call of Duty 2 Big Red 1
09:11Like any good World War 2 story,
09:13Big Red 1 features a final stand with your band of brothers
09:17against overwhelming odds closing in on all sides,
09:20and this is Call of Duty at its finest.
09:23The tension is palpable as enemy forces begin their assault from all sides,
09:28spawning endlessly as the prospects of survival continue to look bleaker with every passing minute.
09:33With ammo supplies running low, and your squad continuing to fall one by one at your side,
09:38the end is near as more enemy munitions fall from the sky decimating the battlefield.
09:43With their final push, the soldiers enact a one in a million plan and manage to stifle any reinforcements,
09:49narrowly surviving their final assault.
09:51It's a moment worthy of celebration and relief knowing you and your brothers live to fight another day.
09:57Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
09:59Look, I know you down for this, but I gotta go in there alone.
10:03What?
10:04Smoke played me. Tenpenny played me.
10:06They played a song.
10:08Yeah, but you're right. I was a buster when my family needed me the most.
10:11There's a reason GTA San Andreas is one of the most beloved GTA games of all time,
10:16and much of that love comes down to its story and brilliantly written characters.
10:20After escaping death multiple times and finally getting released from prison,
10:25CJ finds San Andreas burning in the wake of Tenpenny's arrest and subsequent release due to lack of evidence.
10:31Looking to make Big Smoke pay for his betrayal,
10:34CJ is cornered by Tenpenny after narrowly surviving his gunfight with Big Smoke.
10:39With nothing left to lose, CJ teams up with Sweet and the two pursue Tenpenny through the many warring neighborhoods,
10:44avoiding gunfire and explosions from all sides.
10:48Finally, Tenpenny loses control and crashes his escape vehicle, ending the chase and his life.
10:54With the corruption on its way out, both CJ and the player can breathe a sigh of relief
10:59as they celebrate with their family and friends at the end.
11:03Carl! Where are you off to now?
11:05Finna hit the block. See what's happening.
11:08The Thing
11:08Once I take the chopper, I will begin global infection.
11:13Game over!
11:16It's not often that a classic film gets a worthy follow-up,
11:20and even less often that sequel comes in the form of a video game that manages to not only recapture
11:25what made the original such a classic,
11:27but expand on the lore and provide answers fans have desperately been wanting for decades.
11:32Set three months after the original film, the tension and paranoia are reproduced remarkably well
11:38as you struggle against not only the Thing, but your squad mates as well.
11:42With nefarious plans to distribute the Thing worldwide, the fate of the world is in your hands,
11:47and the climactic ending brings everything full circle,
11:50as the final confrontation takes place atop the original crashed alien ship that brought the Thing to Earth in the
11:55first place.
11:56As the Thing is finally defeated, main character Blake finally escapes the frozen tundra with his helicopter pilot, A1, R
12:04.J. McCready.
12:04On my way back from an extended Arctic vacation.
12:08Uh-huh. So what's your name, smartass?
12:12McCready.
12:15R.J. McCready.
12:16U.S. Outpost North 31.
12:20Resident Evil 4
12:21Oh, Mr. Kennedy, you entertain me!
12:25To show my appreciation, I will help you awaken from your world of cliches.
12:32In classic Resident Evil fashion, RE4 ends with a climactic battle against a mutated version of the game's big bad.
12:39But even by those standards, the final confrontation with Saddler is legendary.
12:44After their initial encounter, Ada offers some much-needed assistance in the form of a rocket launcher.
12:49And in true Leon fashion, he sends Saddler to the afterlife with a quippy one-liner.
12:54The game isn't done, however, and after being double-crossed by Ada once again,
12:58Leon and Ashley are forced to flee the island before it explodes,
13:02racing a jet ski through the tunnels before the final detonation.
13:05With their mission accomplished, Leon and Ashley drive off into the sunset,
13:10with Ashley inquiring about Leon putting in some overtime and Leon's classy dismissal of her advances.
13:16It's peak B-movie cheesiness, and we loved every minute of it.
13:21So, uh, after you take me back to my place, how about we do some, um, overtime?
13:27Heh, sorry.
13:30Somehow I knew you'd say that, but it doesn't hurt to ask, you know?
13:33Devil May Cry 3, Dante's Awakening.
13:37Remember what we used to say?
13:45Jackpot.
13:46Capcom narrowly managed to save the series from the brink by returning to its origins.
13:51As a prequel for the Devil May Cry franchise, Dante's Awakening has a lot of heavy lifting to do establishing
13:57the lore and relationships for future entries in the series,
14:00and to its credit, it more than exceeded expectations.
14:03Not only do we get a backstory for Dante's brother Virgil, but we get to see their climactic showdown as
14:09long-time rivals in true DMC, over-the-top fashion.
14:13The inclusion of nefarious demon dealings and misdirection keeps you guessing until the end in which Dante and Virgil team
14:19up against the main antagonist Arkham before settling their score with each other one last time.
14:24In true cinematic fashion, the two brothers unleash on one another, with Dante finally emerging victorious.
14:30The ending perfectly leads into the events of the first game and the establishing of Dante's demon-hunting business, Devil
14:37May Cry.
14:38I love this.
14:40This is what I live for.
14:49I'm absolutely crazy about it.
14:51Tony Hawk's Underground.
14:53You backstabbing my flipping cockroach!
14:56Hey hey!
14:57What do you say?
14:58One last trip around the neighborhood.
15:01Winner takes the tape.
15:02You wouldn't expect such a compelling story to come out of a skateboarding franchise, let alone one of the most
15:08hated villains on the PS2, but Neversoft managed to do the impossible and create one of the greatest underdog stories
15:14ever told.
15:15After being backstabbed by your so-called friend, Eric Sparrow, for nearly the entire game, you finally get your chance
15:22for revenge.
15:23And the accolades you so rightly deserve for your one-in-a-million trick video in one last skate-off
15:28against the treasonous bastard.
15:30Despite all his cheap tricks, you managed to prevail, leaving Eric crying like a baby.
15:35This gets even more satisfying when you replay the game twice more and unlock the secret ending, in which instead
15:41of accepting the challenge of the skate-off, you simply knock Eric unconscious, which is infinitely more satisfying.
15:47Winner takes the tape.
15:54Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time.
16:00Do not be afraid.
16:03This belongs to you.
16:05When dealing with a narrative as timey-wimey as The Sands of Time, it can be all too easy to
16:10get lost in the paradox of time travel.
16:12But the rebooted Prince of Persia perfectly walks the line and delivers one of the best and most satisfying endings
16:18in the entire series.
16:20After losing Pharah during his final battle with the evil Vizier, the Prince rewinds The Sands of Time to before
16:26the assault on Maharaja's palace and all the events of the game was the Prince recounting his adventure to Pharah.
16:32He attempts to return the dagger to her, but once again, the Vizier interferes and the Prince is forced to
16:37kill him once again.
16:38With his memories of their time together still present, the Prince attempts to kiss Pharah only to be rejected and
16:44rewind The Sands of Time to undo his advances.
16:47Instead, leaving her with a special word she told him during their adventure.
16:51Pure cinema.
16:53Wait!
16:54I don't even know your name.
16:57Just call me...
17:00Kakolukia.
17:04God of War.
17:06I am not the same man you found that day.
17:09The monster you've created has returned...
17:12To kill you.
17:13You have no idea what a true monster is, Kratos!
17:18It all led to this.
17:20All the pain, suffering, death, and murder to finally stand before Ares and claim your revenge.
17:27Naturally, this was also the hardest encounter in the entire game, but also the most rewarding as the moment when
17:33Kratos plunges that giant sword through Ares' skull was worth every challenge, battle, and unfair death up to this point.
17:41The realization that the gods lied and never intended to remove Kratos' nightmares not only set up further broken promises
17:47by the deities, but also gave Kratos a budding career as the new god of war.
17:52The moment when Kratos sits upon the throne is both satisfying and melancholic.
17:56A man who succeeded in his quest for revenge, but is still haunted by his actions.
18:01The ending gives Kratos' story closure as a standalone title, while also leaving the door open for further vengeance against
18:08the gods of Olympus.
18:09The mortal who had become the new god of war.
18:15Shadow of the Colossus
18:17The age-old question how far would you go for someone you love is at the core of Shadow of
18:22the Colossus.
18:23With every beast you take down, it feels as though a piece of yourself is being sacrificed as well.
18:28But still, you press on until the very end with the hopes the deity Dormin will hold up his end
18:33of the bargain to save your beloved.
18:35After the final colossus has fallen, Wander's corruption from his actions became more apparent and he is possessed by Dormin
18:42to escape his imprisonment from the temple.
18:44Only to be stopped once again by a clergy of protectors who managed to seal Dormin inside once again, dragging
18:50poor Wander along with him.
18:52A sacrifice for all his efforts.
18:54Thankfully, Dormin kept his word and Mono was revived in the temple, just in time to see Wander's horse Agro
19:01also survive his fall.
19:02Heartbreaking, but infinitely memorable.
19:05Silent Hill 2
19:06It's time to end this nightmare.
19:10No! I won't let you!
19:13You deserve to die too, James!
19:20While Silent Hill 2 technically has six different endings, three of which could be considered canon,
19:26all of them are satisfying in their own way so no matter what ending you got on your first playthrough,
19:31you wouldn't end up being disappointed.
19:33All endings come with the revelation that James ended his wife's suffering and it's this guilt that has led to
19:39his seemingly endless torment within the town of Silent Hill.
19:42Depending on your choices throughout the game, James can either read Mary's letter and leave with Laura or James chooses
19:48to end his life by driving his car into the lake with Mary's body in the car with him.
19:53Our personal favorite is the ending in which James kills a demonic Mary and leaves the town with Maria, who
19:58appears to show signs of the same illness as Mary, leading to an endless cycle of torment for James.
20:04That or the dog ending is an absolute classic.
20:07Is it your work?
20:13Final Fantasy X
20:14Everyone?
20:16This is the last time we fight together.
20:21Okay?
20:22Throughout the entirety of Final Fantasy X's playthrough, you know things are likely going to end in heartbreak, but few
20:29could have predicted just how devastating it would truly be.
20:32After finally defeating Sin, Tidus gets the resolution with his father Jet he so desperately needed, and the worst seems
20:39to be behind them.
20:40However, shortly after Sin's ultimate defeat, long-time companion Oren is revealed to be an unsent, a soul that hasn't
20:47passed on and is finally sent to the afterlife.
20:49As if that wasn't already bad enough, as Yuna continues her sending, Dream Xanarkin disappears and along with it, Tidus
20:57begins to pass on as well.
20:58As everyone looks on in despair and confusion, Yuna rushes to hold Tidus one last time, but passes through him.
21:05As he vanishes, Tidus holds Yuna one last time as the two confess their love for one another.
21:10Who's cutting onions?
21:12I love you.
21:18Metal Gear Solid 3, Snake Eater
21:20Life's end. Isn't it beautiful?
21:25It's almost tragic.
21:26Metal Gear Solid 3 might be Kojima's best work in the entire Metal Gear series, crafting a perfect spy thriller
21:33with just enough Kojima-ness sprinkled in, and likewise, he absolutely nailed the game's ending as well.
21:39For most of the game, Snake and the player are led to believe that their mentor, the boss, is a
21:44traitor, but it ends up that couldn't be further from the truth.
21:47After finally confronting the boss and ending her life in one of the most heartbreakingly cinematic moments ever, it is
21:54finally revealed that the boss never defected and was instead coerced into infiltrating Volgan's ranks as a double agent.
22:00However, despite her sacrifice and her undying loyalty to her mission, she was branded as a traitor by her country
22:07and her name tarnished to take the fall for the entire operation.
22:11Knowing this, it's little wonder Naked Snake became big boss over time.
22:15And like a true soldier, she saw it through to the end.
22:21But I think she wanted you, of all people, to know the truth.
