Do you want NFL Football on your TV every single night?
Transcript
00:00did you see ben johnson got busted last night trying to run an illegal play
00:06yep trying to get too cute well the funny thing about it is um you know i'm overstating the case
00:13here a little bit but what he did was they snapped the ball to caleb williams and he
00:20handed it off to a guard and um it didn't i mean it didn't a it didn't really work but
00:29it was illegal because you can't hand the ball off to an offensive lineman forward it has to be
00:34backwards and they showed um ben johnson a cutaway shot and i thought okay either a they didn't
00:43execute that correctly or b he didn't know the rules so i asked kang this morning i said hey
00:49do you see ben johnson got busted last night kang started laughing because it was kind of i thought
00:55he got arrested the way doug said it he goes ben johnson get busted i'm like oh what happened
01:01is he in jail yeah right uh anyway he's gonna post bail the lions the lions had a similar incident
01:07remember when they put golf in motion and the quarterback can't go in motion unless he sets
01:13right he's not an eligible and he didn't set and david montgomery threw to him so
01:17i don't know if if it was an example of they just executed it incorrectly or didn't know the rule
01:23i just think it's the the coach flaunting the rules yeah whatever i'm a genius i should be able
01:28to do whatever i want yeah what was it when the feet of the great ben johnson what was it
01:34when the
01:34lions messed it up it was a mistake that's on golf it's a referee's out to get the lions what
01:49do
01:49you mean of course that's what that was by the way pet sing speaking yesterday did you hear he's got
01:53a nickname uh for himself uh no i think somebody i i did the fans and people are calling pet

02:02yeah true pits i don't know what is it megamind
02:10the cartoon yeah your mind yeah actually i do
02:13i actually saw a megamind movie um i didn't hear it but i guess his response was something
02:19along the lines of uh i do have a big forehead
02:27he laughed about it yeah i hope he does uh i want to say he's got some
02:32the singer peter gabriel i think he has some of that does he
02:37uh let me just yeah i think yellow peter gabriel peter gabriel's calling plays for the lions right
02:43now do you think you prefer peter gabriel or megamind
02:51well probably uh probably peter gay probably like to prefer to look like a human
02:56to a grammy award-winning uh you know artist as opposed to a cartoon
03:03yeah he does look like peter gabriel uh all right so something kang's been talking about for a while
03:10and now i and and you didn't you didn't correlate what mike floria pro football talk did uh speaking
03:17with chris sims but there's kind of something weird to schedule for the first time well according
03:23to floria for the first time teams are playing three consecutive prime time games
03:29which he he literally said to my recollection that's never happened and a bunch of teams are
03:34doing it this year bears are doing it pittsburgh's doing it but anyway here's here's the conclusion
03:39that he drew
03:40that he drew
03:40so
03:42so
03:42yeah
03:43yeah
03:43yeah

05:35On the midweek rotation that might stay there for a minute.
05:40I think is one that should scare fans.
05:43If I were a fan, a season ticket holder, I don't want to go to NFL games midweek all the
05:48time.
05:50You say that, but the numbers probably suggest otherwise.
05:55In what sense?
05:57The ratings and just the attendance to the games.
06:00I think like, look at, okay, so right now we don't have it for midweek because they've never done consecutive
06:04midweek games, of course.
06:06But if they've done Sunday night, Monday night, Thursday night in a row, and those are sellouts and the ratings
06:13are great, that's kind of the closest thing we have, right?
06:15They're running the test run.
06:16It's not just for the players, Doug.
06:19Like, can they handle three night games in a row?
06:21It's for the audience.
06:22Does the audience want to see the same team on prime time in consecutive weeks?
06:25That's what Florio's talking about as well.
06:27And I think once they go to 18 games, because I think they will go to 18 games, we are
06:32going to see eventually Tuesday night and Wednesday night football.
06:35And my reason for that is obviously greed from the NFL.
06:38But if you go back, pick any year, the top 100 rated shows of the year, like 90 of them
06:44are NFL games, okay?
06:46Why not be 99 in their eyes, right?
06:48They win Sunday.
06:50They win Monday.
06:51They're winning Thursday.
06:52Why don't we win Tuesday and Wednesday while we're at it, too?
06:56I get it.
06:56I don't think it is.
06:57And I'm not saying I want this.
06:58I'm just saying I could see it happening.
06:59No, I could see it happening, too.
07:01And when Florio said that, I looked at Doug and I'm like, uh-oh, I don't like this.
07:06And it's not so much, hey, kudos to Kang if this ends up being true because you've been saying this
07:10for years that it's going to go to that.
07:13I don't think it has anything to do with attendance because people are going to come out and see their
07:19team regardless.
07:19The NFL, that's just how it is.
07:21It's a sellout business when you have good football teams.
07:24Good football teams sell out.
07:26And that's who they're going to put in the prime time games are the good teams.
07:30So I don't think that the attendance has anything to do with it.
07:34Sadly, I think that it has everything to do with going to an 18-game schedule and, yeah, wanting to
07:41dominate every day of the week at some point if they're going to do this.
07:45And I don't like that.
07:48I'm getting more and more used to the Thursday night game.
07:52I don't love that it's on prime.
07:53Prime, I wish it were just on regular NBC or CBS, Fox, or even NFL Network for that matter, although
08:01probably more people have prime than have NFL Network.
08:05But that's just my own little gripe with that.
08:07But as this thing gets on and if we start scheduling Tuesday and Wednesday games, I have a feeling those
08:13are going to be like Apple games or Netflix games.
08:17That that's where they're going to go because they've experimented with Netflix and they saw tremendous results.
08:25Well, look, I've discovered that I can get in trouble speaking on behalf of fans.
08:33So I guess you're right, Kang.
08:35Maybe the fans do want it.
08:38I just, if I'm a season ticket holder, I kind of know what I'm getting.
08:43I know what my Sundays are going to be used, what I'm going to do on my Sundays.
08:48Do you want it splayed out throughout the week?
08:52Splayed, splayed.
08:53Fan, fanned out over the week, whatever term you want to go with.
08:57I'm skeptical.
08:59Skeptical that people will want that.
09:01What if I throw this at you?
09:02If it means you can keep LaPorta and Branch because the revenues go up and the salary cap goes up
09:08and then you're not hemming and hawing anymore.
09:10You're like, OK, we got the money.
09:11Well, let's do it.
09:12Let's go ahead and give them the extension.
09:13So actions speak louder than words.
09:15Like, I think most fans will right off the bat go, no, I don't want Tuesday football.
09:19I don't want Wednesday night football.
09:20But we'll all watch.
09:21Exactly.
09:21The same thing happened with Thursday night football.
09:23People didn't want it all the time when they started introducing it.
09:25And guess what?
09:26Thursday night football dominates.
09:27Guess what they did?
09:27They sold the crap out of the Amazon Prime.
09:30They're going to do the same thing with Tuesday and Wednesday night football.
09:32It might be a streaming service you haven't even heard of yet.
09:34OK, but they're going to bid it up and they're going to sell it.
09:37And it doesn't even matter if it attends well.
09:40You're talking about good teams, Gator.
09:41It's not going to be good teams.
09:42It'll be the Titans and the Dolphins because people will watch at home from TV.
09:47And that's where the ad revenue comes in.
09:48And that's where the revenue sharing comes in.
09:51So it doesn't matter what team it is.
09:53And it doesn't matter if they sell out the games.
09:55It matters if people are watching.
09:56And they are.
09:572, 4, 8, 5, 3, 9, 97, 97.
10:00You're the consumer.
10:02What do you think of this possible trend?
10:05I feel like we did this with college football and the leaving of conferences and everybody going independent.
10:12Now NFL might be laying the groundwork to go seven days a week.
10:18Or at least more Tuesday and Wednesday games.
10:21And when teams get on that cycle, they'll probably stay there for a while.
10:26It's Carson Anderson.
10:27What do you think?
10:2997-1.
