00:00There is a lot of non-conference scheduling movement coming up
00:05just because week zero is no longer going to be a thing.
00:10In fact, I think we should use that as an insult moving forward.
00:14You, sir, are a week zero.
00:17Oh, oh.
00:18It's kind of rough, but anyway, week zero won't be a thing.
00:24Everybody's going to start a week earlier.
00:26So there's going to be a lot of games get moved around on the calendar.
00:30And I do think that the non-conference power versus power kind of matchups
00:37are super important for the soul of the game.
00:40And I hope that we see the big matchup, one big match.
00:46Like, I think everybody should play somebody at some point.
00:49As much good work and as much as I have respect for what Kurt Zignetti has done at Indiana,
00:54he basically has said, we don't want to do that.
00:57So they got like North Texas, Howard, and Indiana State or Illinois State as their non-conference schedule.
01:02And I'm like, okay, if you want to be the alpha, I don't know that this is exactly setting the
01:08tone to be that.
01:09But I'll give the SEC credit.
01:12Yeah, I mean, going with the ninth game, sure, that's fine.
01:15And I don't love that teams won't schedule in the non-conference schedule like what Indiana is doing here
01:23with North Texas, Howard, and Western Kentucky.
01:25That's weak.
01:27But the argument is that, okay, well, this is the team that's, the conference has put together,
01:32the national champion each of the last couple years here.
01:35And their schedule does include games against Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and Washington this year.
01:41And then the other year could have Oregon and other schools.
01:45So it's, the Big Ten is starting to flex a little bit with how deep the conference is,
01:51much like what the SEC has touted themselves as for years.
01:55So it's a similar situation.
01:57And as long as you get people on the same level playing field again,
02:01I think this is going to be a good thing.
02:03But the SEC, are you going to be surprised if they switch it up in a couple years,
02:08if it doesn't go the way they want to?
02:10I mean, I don't know.
02:12I hope not.
02:13I think they deserve credit for finally adding the ninth conference.
02:16Yeah, let's go ahead and applaud them for that.
02:18And are we seeing conference championship games going away
02:21and just getting ready for the football playoff?
02:25Feedback here from an unnamed texter.
02:27Why does everyone hate College Game Day?
02:28I love it every second of it, but everyone hates it.
02:30What gives?
02:31College Game Day?
02:32Yeah.
02:34I will say, am I on the Twitch feed when the topic came up,
02:37which is better, College Game Day or Fox Big Noon Kickoff Show?
02:41And there was a lot of hostility towards both.
02:44And my thoughts on these are, okay, fine.
02:49What would you prefer?
02:51If these shows are bad, what exactly would make them better?
02:58For me, it's just tradition.
03:00They're coming to my city.
03:04The moment that show starts to the end, I like to have it on.
03:08I think it's always tough because you go with the one that you're used to.
03:12Maybe that's where my bias is.
03:14I'm used to College Game Day.
03:15I'm used to it's almost like a warm hug to me getting ready for college football
03:19to begin my Saturdays of viewing.
03:22And I know the cast of characters.
03:24I know what the routine is.
03:25I like it.
03:26I love the guest pickers.
03:28I think they've stepped up their game over the last couple of years.
03:31They've gotten some really good guests on to do that, and they interact appropriately.
03:35They're well prepared, whereas before they may not have been.
03:38And I look at the Big Noon Kickoff, and I think it's cold and impersonal.
03:45Interesting.
03:46I'm going to try really hard with Big Noon Kickoff again because of their Big Ten alignment.
03:51But it's a hard habit to break.
03:54I can't quit you, College Game Day.
03:56And who's – is it Reese Davis is the – he took over, right, over for Fowler?
04:00I mean, it's a nice transition.
04:01I don't know.
04:02Our guy Wetzel's getting a ton of time on their podcast and on ESPN, College Football Live.
04:07Is our guy Wetzel going to be on Game Day?
04:09I don't know.
04:10Friend of the show?
04:11Former host?
04:12I haven't talked to Dan in a while.
04:13Oh, we'll send him a text.
04:14Tell him I said hi.
04:16Let's get to your open line calls.
04:17We've got a Vic in a cell.
04:18Hi, Vic.
04:19Hey, what's up?
04:20So I know we have a lot of – hey, I know we have a lot of wide receivers, but
04:24I would
04:25like to see Tesla make an improvement over last year.
04:28And then, you know, you guys were talking about running backs and how we don't have
04:32any depth.
04:33And for me, it's frustrating because it's every single manager in this town, and now
04:39Langdon is a part of it, where there are great players out on the market, yet we are
04:46too cheap to go get them.
04:47I wish managers in this town had the balls to make moves to benefit our teams to get
04:55the championships.
04:57Like, show some backbone and grow a spine and do your damn job and help your team win championships.
05:07So where do they not do that?
05:10Well, for the Red Wings, evidence is –
05:13Well, the Red Wings, we have some evidence.
05:16There's an argument there.
05:17The Red Wings, there is some good reporting, and I have it on another source, that yeah,
05:22they could have had Quinn Hughes.
05:23The trade was in place, and Eisenman balked because he didn't want –
05:28No guarantees he could sign him long term.
05:29No guarantee he could sign him long term.
05:31And I think in the end, as far as his job was concerned, running the Red Wings, that was
05:37probably the fatal mistake.
05:39And that is some pretty good reporting.
05:43The case of the Lions, in a cap league, they are spending a ton of money.
05:48They're not being too cheap.
05:51They're just not spending it on new toys.
05:53They are locking up the players that they think they have to lock up to compete at the
05:57highest level.
05:57If you want a bright, shiny toy, got it.
06:01Well, it's a new toy.
06:02They want a new toy, and the old toys, they want to keep around.
06:06Yeah.
06:07The toys we've seen, which have been very good, they've rewarded those, and they're
06:11refurbishing those toys.
06:12They're not getting the new ones, which is what – I think that's the argument people
06:16have.
06:16Tigers handed out $80 million worth of contracts.
06:19People don't like who they signed, but they did hand out $80 million and had their highest
06:24payroll ever.
06:24Vic called them cheap.
06:26In the case of the Pistons, honestly, if they get Jalen Duren at their price, good
06:35for them.
06:36It frees up money to do other things.
06:38Now, eventually, you hope that a great deal comes along.
06:42Those deals aren't always available to you.
06:45No.
06:45There's not a trade store.
06:46They've got two deals they have to work out.
06:48They've got to work out the Duren deal, and eventually it's going to be a Sarr Thompson.
06:51Now, I get it.
06:53If you want something outside done that's big, you haven't seen that yet, and I don't
06:59think there should be a hard and fast rule.
07:00I think it's a mistake to say we're never going to do that, but I also think it would
07:05have been a mistake last year to trade Kevin McGonigal for – who was the closer from
07:09Pittsburgh?
07:11That guy.
07:12Yeah.
07:13I can't remember his name.
07:14But I know.
07:14Yeah.
07:15Carson Anderson, 97-1.
