00:00So you are definitely out on the theory that the NFL is trying to expand
00:04to Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
00:05Like, I'm halfway and halfway out, dude.
00:07I am Michael Jackson moonwalking out of the night.
00:09Moonwalking all the way back.
00:11Listen, I know Florio was just throwing that out there as like a theory,
00:15and it wasn't really.
00:15The thing is, though, with the NFL, would you put anything past him at this point?
00:19No, I wouldn't put anything past him.
00:21But the thing of it is, if we look at the history of the NFL,
00:26they have stuck with Sunday, Thursday, Monday.
00:32But Thursday was a new thing, remember?
00:33They didn't always do Thursday year round.
00:34Thursday was back in the 90s.
00:36Yeah, but they didn't do it every week, though, at the beginning.
00:38They did a lot of it.
00:40I mean, so Thursdays came in the 90s.
00:42Okay.
00:43I was playing in.
00:44But it was a few games a year, not including Thanksgiving.
00:47But I don't think they always did Thanksgiving.
00:50Right, right, right.
00:50It started popping up a good bit.
00:53I don't see them doing Tuesday and Thursday and Wednesday and stuff like that.
00:58I think this whole thing about the reader, okay, they're trying this because of this.
01:03No, bro.
01:04If you look at the games that they play on, those certain primetime games,
01:09they try to give everybody one.
01:11Right.
01:12And then they saturate the rest with the best quarterback.
01:15Which they should.
01:16Totally.
01:17Market your best team to your best players.
01:19Same way the NBA does it.
01:20Listen, people hate Kansas City because Kansas City was always on TV.
01:26Oh, and by the way, they're on Sunday night this weekend.
01:29That's what I'm saying.
01:29So, like, my daughters cannot stand Kansas City.
01:33Yeah, a lot of people can't.
01:34But let's be real.
01:35They're not Swifties?
01:35They're not Swifties.
01:37They like Taylor Swift.
01:39They don't like Kansas City football team.
01:41But the NFL is not stupid.
01:43They put you on because of Pat.
01:45Yeah, of course.
01:45And then when Taylor came around, we're going to make sure we show her, too.
01:48Yeah.
01:49And guess what?
01:50She can't tell them, don't show me.
01:52Well, don't sit in the damn suite.
01:53Yep.
01:54Don't sit by the window.
01:55Yep.
01:55You can go sit in the bathroom and watch the game, and we won't show you.
01:58But when you're in their stadium, they can show you.
02:01They will take what they can, but I don't think they're trying to push Thursday,
02:05Wednesday, and stuff like that.
02:05I think there is such thing as too much football.
02:08I really do.
02:09There is a novelty of it not being every night.
02:11If it stays like it is, it isn't.
02:12Because like you stated earlier, it's like you're preparing for something that's once a week.
02:19Yep.
02:19And the thing of it, most teams have such a fan base where they're going to make the numbers
02:25by getting their fans.
02:26But then when you get Monday night, Thursday night, Sunday night, you get the nation to watch
02:34that one game, and it's normally a game that you want to watch because they have some type
02:38of implications going with it.
02:40But if you start putting too much out of it, people will be like, well, I can watch it Sunday.
02:43I'm not going to watch it tonight.
02:44You know, the same thing will start happening.
02:46I agree.
02:47I agree.
02:48Greg's in D.C.
02:49You're on the fan.
02:49What's up, Greg?
02:51Hey, what's up, B. Mitch?
02:52What's up, man?
02:53My question is like, preseason, right?
02:58Preseason, it reminds me of the Pro Bowl now, the preseason.
03:01Because I understand, like, you got to show, like, what, you know, they don't show everything.
03:06It's just like a warm-up or to see.
03:08So, the thing with the games being on Tuesday and Wednesday, I don't even like Thursday night
03:14football.
03:15And the reason I say that is because they've got so many subscribers that you have to subscribe
03:19to just to, like, watch that game.
03:22And it's like, so last year, I did a U2 NFL, $234.
03:28But all of us, our commander, if he's over with, it's the only team I watch, I'm still
03:33paying.
03:37So, I disagree with it.
03:38All right.
03:39Phone broke up a little bit there, but I get what he was saying.
03:41Yeah, I know what you're saying.
03:41Yeah, I'm waiting on that.
03:42Yeah.
03:43Yeah.
03:43But, I don't pay all that money for the games.
03:47He's letting you know.
03:48Well, the one thing I will say is that anybody that thinks this idea of different platforms
03:53and different places to find sporting events now, like, it's only going to continue this
04:00way.
04:00Yeah, it's going to keep coming.
04:01Like, this ain't changing.
04:02Now, NFL, if they could put you on other platforms, because other people pay you more money, they
04:08will do that.
04:09But I don't think they're going with those other days, man.
04:14I, Tuesday, Wednesdays is just, again, like, I don't, I don't want it.
04:18I feel like some people are afraid to say it.
04:20That doesn't even sound like football days to me.
04:22No, no.
04:22Like, I feel like some people, it's like the emperor's new clothes, where they all don't
04:25want to say it, but they all see it.
04:26It's like the NFL would be naked at that point, and they're like, oh, no, no, no, but I still
04:29love football.
04:30I love it.
04:30No, no, just say it.
04:31It's too much football.
04:32It's okay.
04:32It's all right.
04:33I'm with that.
04:33We got this.
04:34We got this.
04:34Like, we can, we can still have the novelty.
04:36I didn't want to practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
04:38Yeah, exactly.
04:39Tuesdays are supposed to be an off day anyway, most of the time.
04:42Tony's in Great Falls.
04:43What's up?
04:43You're on the panel.
04:45Good morning, guys.
04:47Thanks for taking my call.
04:48I want to give you an idea to think about on the Tuesday, Wednesday game question.
04:52So, just imagine teams in the week before their bye week, just imagine the commanders
05:00and the Giants were both bye weeks coming up.
05:04They could have played that game on Tuesday.
05:07And so, the players would have a couple of extra days off, and then they would have the
05:12next weekend off for their bye week.
05:14So, you spread it out in a way that is helpful for the players, but still get in an extra
05:21day
05:21during the week.
05:23Let me help you out.
05:24Players are creatures of habit.
05:25That won't make them, that's going to throw them off.
05:29Yeah.
05:30They're creatures, like, getting ready to go into a bye week, and then all of a sudden,
05:34you're not playing on Sunday or Monday, you're playing on Tuesday.
05:39That's not going to help.
05:41The, if you watch the international, if you watch the international games, that's the example
05:47of guys being thrown off in their routine.
05:49Or Thursday night games, for the most part.
05:50Routines are thrown off because players are creatures of habit, like you said.
05:54And when you shorten a week for a Thursday game, when you add this crazy travel that's
05:58out there, again, look at the Rams 49ers and how they approached Australia.
06:02Totally different.
06:02The Rams were stupid.
06:03They were stupid.
06:04Of course they were.
06:04But they tried to create a different, they wanted more of their routine to be back home
06:09and then have a short amount of time where they're in Australia and it backfired.
06:12Yeah, but you're flying on the airplane for 15, 16 hours?
06:14No, I agree.
06:15I don't care what routine you have.
06:16It's dumb.
06:16It's dumb.
06:17It was really dumb.
06:18When they said, well, people, we got these beds they can stretch out on, everybody can't
06:22sleep on the airplane, coach.
06:23Nope.
06:24So if you got 59, you got 53 guys and 26 can sleep and 27 can't, you got to screw
06:31it up, team.
06:31Unless you all have lay down beds and you're all flying to the national first class.
06:35And they still couldn't all sleep.
06:37Now they can sleep, you probably give them some ambient or something.
06:39Well, that's the thing.
06:40It's like it may be an assistance thing.
06:41And that might have, they may have some type of backlash.
06:44What if you're groggy?
06:45Yeah.
06:45What if you're groggy after that?
06:46You got that, you got an ambient hangover.
06:48Even melatonin can do that.
06:49That week I told JP they were losing.
06:52Oh, the Rams?
06:52Yeah.
06:53Yeah.
06:53Oh, you can see it coming from a mile away.
06:54Oh, man.
06:55I like Sean.
06:56I said, well, you can like Sean all you want.
06:57That's a dumb decision he's making.
06:59When your team is still groggy.
07:01Yeah.
07:01And they don't know what time it is.
07:02The coaches are on the sideline groggy.
07:04I mean, listen, that stuff matters.
07:06But listen, I'm with you, though, when it comes to the expansion of the international games.
07:12Like that's absolutely going to happen.
07:15It's just a matter of like, I just worry about like if we continue to do more and more of
07:21this.
07:21Let's take the Tuesdays and Wednesdays theory out of this, right?
07:25We're losing quality games.
07:27Like we are getting lower quality games a lot.
07:29These London games aren't that great to watch.
07:31Not every time, but you're watching offenses stall.
07:34And I know people will still watch.
07:36And I know the ratings are still huge in the NFL.
07:38And it's, I don't know what it would take for the NFL to actually have a crack in their foundation.
07:42Like what would it take?
07:44Really?
07:45Because they can play Tuesday, Wednesday, and people would still watch.
07:47Some people watch it, but I think the biggest thing now is trying to, if they can get a team
07:53or a division in London, they will love that.
08:03See, I think that's dumb, too.
08:05Because here about this.
08:06If you've got, let's start with a team in London.
08:08How are you getting free agents to go sign over there?
08:09How many are going to actually want to go live in London, move their families or be far away from
08:13their families?
08:13Like the real life stuff?
08:14If you've been there for that week, I think I can live there.
08:17Tax is a lot higher over there.
08:18Tax is a lot higher.
08:19There's that.
08:20And guess what?
08:22Health care is way better.
08:23No, that's fair.
08:24You can start naming stuff.
08:25Yeah.
08:25Education is probably free compared to what we do here.
08:29All of our colleges just pay you just because.
08:31You pay more for your education than you end up making when you leave.
08:35So there's a lot of good things going on.
08:37No, I never said it's a bad place.
08:39No, what I'm saying is if they can get four teams, you got to have two at least.
08:44If you're going to do it, because you can't have teams just playing one.
08:47So guys go over, they can play two teams.
08:49Then they go back.
08:50But if you get four of them over there, you know, and you could do it.
08:54And London, England, they could do it.
08:57They got multiple stadiums.
08:59Because right now they got all these different soccer teams.
09:02They're Liverpool.
09:03You got.
09:03You have a Chelsea football club.
09:05They like what they like.
09:06You know what I'm saying?
09:07Richmond football club.
09:08Ted Lasso, the real American football version.
09:10They got stuff.
09:11But I'm just saying that would be the mindset.
09:14You know, and when you go there, people think it's just all Americans going to the games.
09:20No.
09:20It's people that are fans that live there.
09:23Yeah.
09:23And been there.
09:24Like, I had a guy come up to me and say, man, I'm glad you came back because I need
09:28you to sign my taxi.
09:31Got a rest in slash commanders taxi cab.
09:35Okay.
09:35When we played in a preseason game in 92, he was there.
09:40No way.
09:40He's a fan.
09:41And I saw him again at the little pep rally they had this year.
09:46So, it's people there.
09:47Oh, yeah.
09:48Yeah.
09:49So, it's like, but that's what they want because that is a whole new slew of people who don't get
09:56a chance to see it firsthand all the time.
09:58All right.
09:59We got one more here.
09:59Steve's in Luray or Luray if you really want to say it the right way.
10:02What's up, Steve?
10:05Yeah, how's it going, guys?
10:06Nice talking to you.
10:08Hey, I told the young man, as an old merry man, my wife would not like it.
10:13And I'm not crazy.
10:15It's like baseball.
10:15I love the Nationals.
10:17But I can't watch every game.
10:19It's like, you know, I've got to have other things in my life that prioritize.
10:22Matter of fact, Monday Night Football with her, I've got to explain to her why it's important for me to
10:27watch it.
10:28Because, you know, we've got things to do with the grandkids.
10:31I have time to spend with my wife that I should be doing because she's not a big sports fan.
10:35So if I watch football Sunday, Sunday night, Monday night, Wednesday night, Thursday night, she would literally, before long, shoot
10:43me.
10:43But I had a perspective that I haven't heard yet.
10:46I was a young man when Monday Night Football came out.
10:49And people weren't crazy about it.
10:52But Monday Night Football, the announcers, Danny Dan, Frank Cassell, the football player.
10:59Howard Cassell.
11:00Yeah, Howard Cassell.
11:01They made it.
11:03They made Monday Night Football fun to watch.
11:05People watch it just to get those clowns.
11:07And then it caught on and people got used to it.
11:10I really believe if you didn't have those three announcers, Monday Night Football might not have caught on like it
11:14did.
11:15But as a married man that tries to respect my wife and give her, you know, some help, I just
11:22can't watch sports 24 hours, 7.
11:24I don't get paid to watch it like y'all do.
11:26And she would really, really have a cow.
11:29You know, she doesn't like he watches as much as I do.
11:32If I had more, it would just, I end up getting shot for a while.
11:37But yeah, I'd love talking to y'all.
11:39God bless and take care.
11:40I appreciate you, man, but like most men ain't married.
11:44They'll be out there watching it.
11:45Right.
11:46But I hear like men like.
11:47The NFL doesn't care about your marriage.
11:49You're going to find out on Valentine's Day this year.
11:50I don't want you to go watch football.
11:52Okay, then we're not celebrating Valentine's Day.
11:55Mm-hmm.
11:55I don't want you to watch football.
11:57Okay, well, you can't shop anymore.
11:58Mm-hmm.
11:59Like, I hate when people always act like men are the only ones that got to adjust when you get
12:03married.
12:04Hell, if I got to adjust, you got to adjust.
12:06We're going to both sacrifice.
12:08Happy spouse, happy house.
12:09Hell, yeah.
12:09That's how it should be.
12:10There you go.
12:10Not no happy wife, have a life.
12:12That's right.
12:12No, no, no.
12:13Yeah, there you go.
12:14I like that, man.
12:14Happy spouse, happy house, my friend.
12:15Hell, yeah.
12:16That's.
