An India Today undercover investigation by the Special Investigation Team reveals alarming hygiene violations at food eateries operating around New Delhi Railway Station. Food was observed being cooked in open spaces directly alongside filthy drains, while staff operated without essential hygiene gear such as gloves and hair nets. At Madras Hotel, a manager admitted to the lack of safety gear and noted that food safety officials do not conduct checks once an eatery secures a license, claiming pest control is handled informally in-house. Despite visible violations in narrow lanes, food operators downplayed concerns, claiming authorities do not object, leaving thousands of daily passengers at risk without regulatory oversight.

00:39But you will be shocked by the kitchens we saw.
00:45Food is cooked in the open, right next to filthy drains.
00:51The cooks follow no basic hygiene, no hair nets, no gloves.
00:57This is the Madras Hotel, and the manager has no answers as to why basic norms are not being followed.
01:28We then ask him about pests and cockroaches all over.
01:33And his response?
01:35We do everything we can.

02:33You have to do it from the MCC.
02:36Food being cooked outside on a dirty lane next to a drain.
02:41We see it all and yet Kumar denies it.
03:06A license on the wall is not hygiene in the kitchen.
03:11When food for thousands of travellers is made like this, who is checking?
