00:00So we were talking about the expanding the postseason next year to 24 teams that, you know, Craig was bringing
00:05up the fact that the first round matchups, you might get some blowouts and you might, you know, you might.
00:10The only kickback I would say to that would be, Craig, that you're not getting, not that I'm putting these
00:16teams down, but you're not getting more of New Mexico or, you know, James Madison or App State or Marshall.
00:25You're not getting those teams.
00:28Those teams are only going to have one.
00:30From what I read, they still, just like they only have, you know, the top non-power four team, when
00:35we go to 24, it's going to be the same thing.
00:37You guys are only getting one.
00:39Sorry.
00:39All the others are just going to be the, you know, lesser, we'll say, SEC or Big Ten teams.
00:47Like, for example, right now, right, let's just say that the postseason started today.
00:52Who's ranked 20 to 24 that we, you know, really probably don't need, right?
00:57LSU is 18.
00:58Texas is 19.
01:00Florida is 20.
01:02You do have Boise State at 21.
01:04Missouri is 22.
01:06And you got SMU at 23.
01:09So, you got, your point being, you're going to get big-time teams, whether it's, you know, the 10-2
01:15or 9-3 Auburns of the world or Florida.
01:19You're not going to get the more, the Cinderella-type teams, which creates more blowouts.
01:26So, I think you'll get some blowouts, but not as many as people think.
01:30Gotcha.
01:31Gotcha.
01:31Yeah.
01:33You know, I'm looking back, and so this is, these are the results from last season's first-round college football
01:42playoff.
01:42So, and I'm only saying this to, out of remembering and now looking it up to make sure that I
01:49was correct.
01:49So, Alabama beat Oklahoma 34-24, which I believe Alabama was up very big in that game, and Oklahoma came
01:58back just to make it 10.
02:00Miami, Texas A&M was a horrible game.
02:03That was a big surprise that Miami won, but they won 10-3.
02:07But, Scott, Ole Miss beat Tulane 41-10, and Oregon beat James Madison 51-34 in another game that wasn't
02:15close.
02:15That was the opening round.
02:16So, what I guess my point would be is that I am, for any system they choose, if they want
02:24to go to 80 teams, I don't care.
02:25But I, my recollection of it, in sports it's hard to remember everything, my recollection of it was the first
02:31round of the college football playoff sucked last year.
02:34So, if you're telling me that these teams, these weaker teams, are not going to be in there, and they're
02:38not going to be those blocks, then good.
02:39I'm cool with it.
02:40But if somehow we get 30-point wins and 25-point wins in the first round, I am going to
02:47yearn a little for the crazy bowl madness that we used to have.
02:50And that's not what they want.
02:52That's not what college football, in fact, there will be no more bowls, I'm assuming, starting next year, right?
02:56There's going to be no bowls, I think, I would guess.
02:58Yeah.
03:00I don't know how there could be any.
03:01But, so, yeah, so I guess that was my remembering.
03:06Maybe the system that you're mentioning in place will prevent some of these things that I remember from last year.
03:12But what a drag, you know, to have two of the games like that, and then a third in Oklahoma
03:17just getting smashed by Alabama, and the best game was a 10-3 game.
03:21So, I'm hopeful that that's not the case next year.
03:24Yeah.
03:25So, you remember right, they were all four bad games.
03:28You know, that 17-point Boise State game, that was just, or James Madison game, yeah, they were down like
03:3640.
03:37So, why do you think that, so, I guess the question is, so, Scott, in your opinion, so why do
03:41you think that was?
03:43Like, if we go back to last year, why do you think, was it mismatches?
03:47Was it the fact that teams got to be at home, and that was a big advantage for them?
03:52Because I remember going in, the narrative was there's no advantage for the college football playoff because the kids don't
03:57have the tickets, and they have to buy tickets, and they're not even going to be at school.
04:00They're all going to be home.
04:01That didn't work out.
04:02All the home teams won except for A&M.
04:03So, I don't really have the explanation for it.
04:07I don't know what you think about it.
04:09Yeah, I think last year in particular, that's, you know, and generally, historically, like, the top four, five, six teams
04:16in college football are so much better than everybody else.
04:19Agreed.
04:20This year, that's not the case.
04:22No.
04:22So, I think that's what happens.
04:23And, in fact, I think this year, Craig, is the perfect, like, it's amazing how these things play out because
04:30you're going to get some good teams this year that are not going to get into this 12-team playoff.
04:35Oh, yeah.
04:35And if it was ever a year, right, that they needed to kind of justify going to 24, you know,
04:41when you tell the world Texas is not getting in, Alabama is not getting in, Penn State's not getting in,
04:46Notre Dame might not get in if they lose to Miami.
04:48Miami might not get in.
04:50I mean, you've got Oregon might not get in, right?
04:53You've got a lot of big-time college programs that are going to sit there with two and three losses
04:58because they have tough schedules in the SEC and not get in.
05:01So, this is the perfect storm.
05:04There's such a balance this year that you can have an Auburn, go to Georgia and win.
05:08You can have a Tennessee, knock off Alabama.
05:10You can have a Kentucky this year, you know, it'd be halfway decent.
05:15But I think we created the, you know, with all this NIL money and all these teams having the ability
05:22to go get really good players, there's just really so many really good teams there are in college football.
05:27You can have a lot of people.
05:27You can have a lot of people.
05:27You can have a lot of people.
05:27You can have a lot of people.
