00:00Hey, Tone, go ahead and re-ask the question again.
00:02Yeah, just that some fans are making this the real prove-it game for the Browns
00:07as if they didn't just prove it against the Steelers on national television.
00:11That was a pretty big game last time I checked.
00:12Boom.
00:13It really was a very big game.
00:16Of course, it's a different animal to go into Pittsburgh and try to win there.
00:20That's an entirely different ballgame.
00:22But I do think that if they win this game,
00:26it really puts them in a position to make the playoffs.
00:30So it's an entirely huge game.
00:32But I think they've already proven themselves pretty well
00:34in a number of games this season.
00:36Mary Kay Cabot joining us on the show.
00:38So things are getting a little bit silly.
00:40Tone, go ahead and start to ask her some of the silly season questions here
00:43as we're getting into the trade deadline.
00:44All right, there have been rumors.
00:46Have you been able to find any kind of factual basis
00:50for the discussion that Dylan Gabriel is stealing Shador's second-team reps?
00:55We've been unable to confirm that, Mary Kay.
00:58Fine, there you go.
01:00No, I really don't believe that that's happening.
01:03Dylan Gabriel, a lot of times when he's getting reps, he's running the scout team.
01:08And so, no, and we are not out there when they're doing teams.
01:12So we really haven't seen too much of that.
01:16But, no, I don't think that's the case.
01:18And Shador Sanders, and I wrote this last week,
01:20is still the number two quarterback, and he's still the next man up.
01:23And if, for some reason, Deshaun Watson can't fulfill his duties,
01:28then Shador Sanders would be playing.
01:30Thank goodness.
01:30Mary Kay Cabot here on the Wise Heart Right.
01:32We make a right call call right hotline.
01:34You did not say that in the previous segment about those reps things there, Tone.
01:38Yeah.
01:39That threw me off.
01:39Well, that in addition, Connor Rohr had a piece out about some fun trades.
01:44I don't know how fun it would be for Browns fans to trade for Spencer Rattler.
01:47Doesn't seem a lot of fun to me.
01:48No.
01:48But his overarching point is that he said going to Shador Sanders would be a non-starter.
01:56And I found that to be a little peculiar.
01:59Yeah.
01:59What's your thoughts on that?
02:00Is Todd Munkin still, or is Shador still in the good graces of Todd Munkin, Mary Kay?
02:06Yeah, I think so.
02:07Like I said, he's still the number two quarterback.
02:09And even though Dylan has been activated, Shador is still the number two and is still the next man up.
02:16So I know they're hoping that it doesn't get to that point because they want Deshaun to continue playing well
02:21and winning football games.
02:22But in the event that he doesn't, the next guy up would be Shador.
02:27So I don't see Spencer Rattler coming here.
02:30And at this point, I also don't see them trading either Shador or Dylan.
02:35But we must always remember that Andrew Barry at this time of year, he likes to wheel and deal.
02:41And he will listen to offers, of course.
02:43He's not shopping those guys, but he will listen.
02:46And if someone makes him an offer that he can't refuse, then he will be apt to make a deal.
02:51Is that the reason why they were reported to be in on the Quentin Nelson conversation earlier this week?
02:58Well, there will be all kinds of rumors going on over the next two weeks.
03:03And a lot of them will be fiction.
03:06There are so many people tripping over themselves to get news and nuggets at this time of year.
03:12But, you know, most of what we hear probably isn't really true.
03:19Mary Kay, they were able to block so much better in that last game.
03:23Now, it was the Titans, but people will point out, Titans like Brian Baldinger did with us yesterday,
03:27that they have legitimate players on that front.
03:30And yet, I thought that was the sign of an evolved Todd Munkin offensive line,
03:35getting a job not only in pass pro, but also the running game.
03:39Could that be a real leaping off point?
03:42Well, I think it can.
03:43I think it can.
03:44Once again, you have to take that game with a little bit of a grain of salt
03:48because the Titans are 1-6 for a reason.
03:51But still, you know, this is NFL football.
03:55And you can't discount a game like that and a performance like that.
03:59And I do think the offensive line is coming together.
04:02Remember, there are two really young guys on there, rookies in Spencer Fano and Austin Barber.
04:08And the whole thing is overhauled, and Titus Fano had to leave the game with a concussion.
04:13He's still in the concussion protocol.
04:15There have been issues, but for the most part, I think each week,
04:19you're seeing these guys really come around.
04:22I thought Spencer Fano had a really nice game against the Titans,
04:26and Austin Barber has played well.
04:28So I think it's a function of just getting to know each other better.
04:31So do you think over under half a trade,
04:34do you think that they will make a trade before the trade deadline?
04:38Yeah, I think they will make a trade before the trade deadline.
04:41But more so than anything, I would think that they would be thoughtful buyers
04:46looking to add to the football team in some way.
04:49Now, having said that, once again, you have to remember
04:52that if someone does come calling for even a Jerry Judy,
04:57that if they get an offer they can't refuse, they will make that deal.
05:01We know that because they weren't planning on trading Miles Garrett,
05:05and then they traded him.
05:06So if he's not off limits, then no one is off limits.
05:11But, you know, they're not actively out there shopping these guys.
05:16So how have you, we're joined by Mary Kay Cabot of the PlainDealerCleven.com,
05:20how have you reacted to some of the national pub?
05:23Some people saying it's uncomfortable to talk about Deshaun Watson
05:26as comeback player of the year.
05:28That was what, Chris Canty yesterday, Stephen A. Smith leading the charge,
05:33and then you have others like Greg Rosenthal saying,
05:35actually, he's one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL.
05:38How do you feel about the conversations that are being had nationally
05:41about the Browns and their quarterback?
05:44Well, first of all, I would say that I led the charge on the NFL comeback
05:47player of the year.
05:48Go ahead.
05:49Well, I wrote it as my game column on Sunday.
05:56So I put that out there on Sunday right after the game,
05:59and then I saw a lot of people jump on that bandwagon after that.
06:03So I think I got that drum beat started.
06:07And I think if you're just looking at it from a football standpoint,
06:10yes, you have to look at him as a legit candidate for NFL comeback player of the year.
06:16He has to be in the conversation right now.
06:18He leads the NFL with five fourth-quarter game-winning drives.
06:22That counts for something.
06:23You don't do that unless you're doing something right.
06:26And if Joe Flacco can be the NFL comeback player of the year,
06:30then certainly Deshaun can be in the conversation for it.
06:33Now, I know it's controversial.
06:34I know that there probably are a lot of voters who will want nothing to do
06:39with voting for him for that honor.
06:42But from a strictly football standpoint, I think it has to be discussed.
06:48I would, too.
06:50He'll get no votes, Mary Kay.
06:52He will get no votes.
06:53Does Mary Kay vote for him?
06:54And I don't think Justin Tucker is going to steal any votes either.
06:56Well, okay, let's not have that discussion yet.
06:58But Mary Kay, do you vote for comeback player of the year?
07:00Do you not or no?
07:01How does that work?
07:02I do.
07:03I do.
07:03Well, he gets one.
07:04I do.
07:04He gets one.
07:05Well, you don't know.
07:05Wait, you're just assuming Mary Kay is going to vote for him?
07:08She wrote the article.
07:09Yeah, but Mary Kay has the right to, you know, have her own agency over this vote.
07:13It's a very important vote.
07:14Okay, as of right now, would Mary Kay, Mary Kay, you're with us on the show.
07:18Would you vote for him as comeback player of the year?
07:20Yes, I would.
07:21There you go.
07:22I mean, obviously, like you guys said, if I wrote the column saying that he should be in the conversation,
07:32although, I mean, I'm saying right now that he should be in the conversation.
07:36When push comes to shove, I don't know.
07:38This is my first year as the AP voter for those awards, so I don't know if you only get
07:44one choice on that.
07:45I do not know how that works out, or I haven't seen the ballot.
07:50But I will wait until the end of the year and see how it all goes.
07:57But as of right now, I would at least consider voting for him, depending on how this all plays out.
08:03And again, I don't know what the ballot looks like, but I think he should be in the conversation.
08:10So let me retract saying I would vote for him because I don't know yet if I will vote for
08:18him.
08:18This is, Mary Kay, you don't have to explain yourself any further.
08:21This is a type of comprehensive examination that, Mary Kay, you take this voting very seriously.
08:26And I hope people hear that.
08:27You're not just flying off, you know, voting for somebody because you said it on the radio.
08:32You're providing some real thought.
08:34That is real William C. Nunn award-winning type stuff right there from the Hall of Famer Mary Kay Cabot.
08:40Yeah, I mean, I just don't want to be held to that because I'm saying that he needs to be
08:44in the conversation right now.
08:46I would strongly consider voting for him, depending on who else.
08:50I mean, Patrick Mahomes is going to deserve strong consideration and I think is in the lead right now.
08:56There's still a lot of football to be played.
08:57Everybody loves him.
08:59Yeah, I'm sure he'll win.
09:00Right, and I don't think, I do think there will be plenty of people that will not want to vote
09:05for him.
09:05And we all understand that and realize the situation here.
09:10But, like I said, I just think from a purely football standpoint, people need to at least start thinking about
09:16it and giving it some consideration.
09:19Mahomes played in 14 games last year.
09:21I don't.
09:22Then he got hurt.
09:23He blew out his knee.
09:24Okay, so.
09:24Then he came back and is starting this year.
09:28That's a comeback.
09:29What is he coming back from?
09:31He played 14 games.
09:32Yeah, guys get injured every year in the NFL.
09:34So, just the whole pool of NFL players available if they got injured.
09:37That's basically the criteria for it.
09:38Yeah.
09:38Anyway, Mary Kay, Jared Verse.
09:41Yeah, no kidding.
09:42Does Jared Verse have to come back from seven games and no sacks to rescue this Miles Garrett trade?
09:50Well, I do think that it has been quite the adjustment period for Jared Verse to an attack-style defense,
09:58something he's never played in before, and a 4-3 front that he hasn't played in.
10:02So, I think he's still finding his way.
10:05And the good thing about Jared Verse right now is the fact that if those lights do come on the
10:10way that the Browns need them to
10:12and want them to down the stretch, then I think he can make a really significant contribution as they go
10:18along here.
10:19So, I feel like there's more meat left on the bone for this football team because you still have, you
10:25know,
10:25Jared who hasn't reached his potential yet.
10:27You still have Emmanuel McNeil-Warren who I think there's still a lot left to him that we necessarily haven't
10:33seen yet.
10:33But, certainly, you know, you would want more from Jared Verse, but it might take some tweaking of the role.
10:41It might take some more time for him to get acclimated to this kind of defense.
10:48But, certainly, I'm sure that they would love to see more production from him.
10:51Now, he made a huge play on the goal line.
10:53I mean, he's a big, huge reason for that goal line stand.
10:58So, hopefully, the Browns will see more of those kind of plays.
11:01All right, Mary Kay, real quick, is Todd Munkin making a bigger deal about the rivalry behind the scenes than
11:06he is in the media?
11:09Yeah, I would think so.
11:10I'm sure he is.
11:11And they all know and understand what this is all about.
11:14But, yeah, he's trying to downplay it and just keep the main thing the main thing, as they say.
11:19But he knows what this is all about, and I'm sure he's impressing that upon the guys.
11:25All right, Mary Kay, thank you very much for the time.
11:26All the best.
11:28Sounds good.
11:29Thanks, guys.
11:29Mary Kay Cabot, the wonderful one, on the Wisehart-Wright-We-Make-It-Right-Call-Kyle-Right-Hotline.
11:33I'm putting in my vote.
11:34I don't have a vote.
11:35I'm going with Quinshot Judkins, comeback player of the year after his Week 16 injury last year.
11:41If he ran for 1,500 yards this year, you can make an argument for it.
11:43I don't know why you're laughing.
11:45This is so silly.
11:46All right, I'll argue with you next.
11:47It's so damn silly that Mahomes would be in consideration for this.
