00:08I'm in the company of Mr Zilman, a member of the Australian NGN Committee. Hi!
00:13Hi, nice to meet you Alice and thanks for having me.
00:17Thank you. Could you tell us maybe a little bit about your own journey with SeaGrey?
00:21Yeah, definitely. So I became a SeaGrey and an NGN member back in, I think it was about 2012,
00:29actually in being involved in setting up the SeaGrey Australian NGN and being the first chair.
00:36And then from there, through the many, many years since, I've had the opportunity to have different roles in the
00:42NGN,
00:42but also to get involved in study committees and now in a working group
00:48and be a more active contributing member to the technical proceedings of SeaGrey.
00:53For those who don't know yet, can you explain what is NGN?
00:58Yeah, it's a very good question. I think sometimes the acronym can be confusing.
01:04So it is the young member group for SeaGrey that's really targeted at getting young engineers involved,
01:11breaking down the barriers and bringing them in to be active members of SeaGrey.
01:16Why did you join SeaGrey in the first place and maybe how NGN and SeaGrey is helping you in your
01:24own career as an engineer?
01:26Yeah, very, very good question. So I initially got involved as an opportunity to give back.
01:33Also in setting up the NGN, it was a great opportunity to develop some of my leadership and some of
01:39my organizational skills.
01:41But I guess moving on from there and getting to see everything that SeaGrey has to offer, I think for
01:47me it's really about the people,
01:50the networks that you build by coming to things like Paris Session and then the vast knowledge and opportunities that
01:57being a member of SeaGrey offers.
01:59I think that's for me what's really over the past 10 years cemented my ongoing involvement in SeaGrey.
02:06So if you have like a last message to the young engineers that are still maybe hesitating to join?
02:12Yeah, I would say I definitely found SeaGrey to be maybe an intimidating organization.
02:18There's a lot of knowledge, a lot of experts and sometimes it's easy to think what could I contribute.
02:23It took me maybe a little while to understand that that's the exact reason to get involved.
02:27I mean you can draw on and get to meet these people with so much knowledge from other countries around
02:32the world and really draw on that to build your own career and your own expertise.
02:36So I would encourage you to get involved in whatever way you can.
02:40It's really an organization to build your career.
02:44Thanks a lot.
02:45Thank you for having me.
