00:04The words of the prophet Joel, chapter 2, verse 13.
00:11Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God.
00:18For he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repented him of the evil.
00:31Dearly beloved brethren, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and wickedness.
00:42But that we should not disassemble, nor clave them before the face of Almighty God our Heavenly Father.
00:51But confess them, with a humble, lowly, penitent, and obedient heart, to the end that we may obtain forgiveness of
01:02the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:07And although we ought at all times humbly to acknowledge our sins before God, yet ought we chiefly so to
01:15do,
01:16when we assemble and meet together, to render thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:23To set forth his most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are
01:32requisite and necessary, as well for the body as the soul.
01:39Wherefore I pray and beseech you, as many as are here present, to accompany me with a pure heart and
01:47humble voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, saying after me.
01:55Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep.
02:04We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:11We have offended against thy holy laws.
02:16We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things we ought
02:23not to have done, and there is no health in us.
02:29But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable offenders.
02:35Spare thou them, O God, who confess their faults, or restore thou those who are penitent.
02:41Spare thou them, O Lord, according to thy promises declared unto mankind, in Christ Jesus our Lord.
02:49And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life,
02:59to the glory of thy holy name.
03:03Amen.
03:06Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who desireth not the death of a sinner, but rather that
03:14he turn from his wickedness and live,
03:17and has given power and commandment to his ministers to declare and pronounce to his people, being penitent, the absolution
03:29and remission of their sins.
03:32He pardoneth and absolveth all who truly repent, and unfaimly believe his holy gospel.
03:43Wherefore, let us beseech him to grant us true repentance, and his holy spirit, that those things may please him
03:51which we do at this present,
03:54and that the rest of our life hereafter may be pure and holy, so that at the last we may
04:00come to his eternal joy,
04:03through Jesus Christ our Lord.
04:12Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, as it is
04:21in heaven.
04:22Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us.
04:31And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the
04:39glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
04:46O Lord, open our lips, and our mouth shall show forth thy praise.
04:55O God, make speed to save us.
04:59O Lord, make haste to help us.
05:05Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning,
05:11is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
05:19Praise ye the Lord, the Lord, the Lord's name be praised.
05:27O come, let us sing unto the Lord, and let us heartily rejoice in the strength of our salvation.
05:36Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and show ourselves glad in him with psalms.
05:44For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
05:50In his hand are all the corners of the earth, and the strength of the hills is his also.
05:57The sea is his, and he made it, and his hands prepared the dry land.
06:03O come, let us worship, and hold home, and kneel before the Lord, our Maker.
06:10For he is the Lord our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his
06:17hand.
06:19Today, if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, and as in the day
06:27of temptation in the wilderness.
06:30When our fathers tempted us, proved us, and saw our works.
06:37Forty years long I was grieved with this generation, and said,
06:41It is a people that do err in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.
06:48And to whom I swore in my wrath, that they should not enter into my rest.
06:55Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
06:59As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
07:04World without end.
07:06Amen.
07:10Psalm 120
07:14When I was in trouble, I called upon the Lord, and he heard me.
07:19Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
07:25What reward shall be given or done unto thee, thou false tongue?
07:30Even mighty in sharp arrows, with hot, burning coals.
07:36Woe is me, that I am constrained to dwell with Mesef, and to have my habitation amongst the tents of
07:44Kedar.
07:46My soul hath long dwelt among them, as our enemies unto peace.
07:53I labour for peace, but when I speak unto them thereof, they make them ready to battle.
08:01Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
08:05As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
08:10World without end.
08:12Amen.
08:16Psalm 121
08:19I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
08:25My help cometh even from the Lord, who hath made heaven and earth.
08:31He will not suffer thy foot to be moved, and he that keepeth thee will not sleep.
08:39Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
08:45The Lord himself is thy keeper, the Lord is thy defence upon thy right hand.
08:51So that the sun shall not burn thee by day, neither the moon by night.
08:59The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil, yea, it is even he that shall keep thy soul.
09:07The Lord shall preserve thy going out, and thy coming in, from this time forth, or evermore.
09:16Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
09:22As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
09:26World without end.
09:28Amen.
09:34Psalm 122
09:37I was glad when they said unto me, We will go into the house of the Lord.
09:44Our feet shall stand in thy gates, O Jerusalem.
09:48Jerusalem is built as a city that is at unity in itself.
09:54For thither the tribes go up, even the tribes of the Lord, to justify unto Israel,
10:01to give thanks unto the name of the Lord.
10:05For there is the seat of judgment, even the seat of the house of David.
10:12O pray for the peace of Jerusalem, they shall prosper that love thee.
10:18Peace be within thy walls, and plenteousness within thy policies.
10:25For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will wish thee prosperity.
10:31Yea, because of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek to do thee good.
10:38Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
10:42As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
10:47World without end.
10:49Amen.
10:53Psalm 123
10:57Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
11:05Behold, even as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters,
11:10and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress.
11:15Even so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until he have mercy upon us.
11:22Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us,
11:25for we are utterly despised.
11:29Our soul is filled with the scornful reproof of the wealthy,
11:33and with the despitefulness of the proud.
11:38Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
11:43As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
11:47World without end.
11:49Amen.
11:54Psalm 124
11:57If the Lord himself hath not been on our side,
12:01now may Israel say,
12:03If the Lord himself hath not been on our side,
12:05when men rose up against us,
12:08they had swallowed us up quick,
12:11when they were so roughly displeased at us.
12:15Yea, the waters hath drowned us,
12:17and the stream hath gone over our soul.
12:20The deep waters of the proud hath gone over our soul.
12:26But praised be the Lord,
12:29who hath not given us over for a prey unto their teeth.
12:34Our soul is escaped,
12:36even as a bird out of the snare of the fowler.
12:40The snare is broken, and we are delivered.
12:44Our help standeth in the name of the Lord,
12:47who hath made heaven and earth.
12:51Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
12:55as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
12:59World without end.
13:01Amen.
13:05Psalm 125
13:08They that put their trust in the Lord
13:11shall be even as the Mount Zion,
13:14which may not be removed,
13:16but standeth fast for ever.
13:19The hills stand about Jerusalem,
13:22even so stampeth the Lord round about his people,
13:25from this time forth for evermore.
13:29For the rod of the ungodly
13:31cometh not into the lot of the righteous,
13:34lest the righteous put their hand unto wickedness.
13:38Do well, O Lord, unto those that are good and true of heart.
13:44As for such as turn back unto their own wickedness,
13:48the Lord shall lead them forth with evildoers,
13:52but peace shall be upon Israel.
13:56Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost,
14:00as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
14:05World without end.
14:08Amen.
14:12The prophet Malachi, chapters 3 and 4
14:18You have criticised me sharply, says the Lord.
14:21But you ask, how have we criticised you?
14:25You said it is useless to serve God.
14:29How have we been helped by keeping his requirements
14:32and going about like mourners before the Lord who rules over all?
14:37Now we consider the arrogant to be happy.
14:40Indeed, those who practice evil are successful.
14:45Those who challenge God escape.
14:50Then those who respected the Lord spoke to one another,
14:53and the Lord took notice.
14:55A scroll was prepared before him,
14:57in which were recorded the names of all those who respected the Lord
15:01and honoured his name.
15:04They will belong to me, says the Lord, who rules over all.
15:08In the day when I prepare my own special property.
15:12I will spare them, as a man who spares the son who served him.
15:17Then, once more, you will see that I make a distinction
15:20between the righteous and the wicked,
15:23between the one who serves God and the one who does not.
15:27For indeed, the day is coming, burning like a furnace,
15:30and all the arrogant evildoers will be chaff.
15:34The coming day will burn them up, said the Lord.
15:38I will not even leave a root or a branch.
15:43For you who respect my name, the son of vindication,
15:46will rise with healing wings,
15:49and you will skip a bed like calves relieved from the storm.
15:55This is the word of the Lord.
15:58Thanks be to God.
16:04We praise thee, O God.
16:06We acknowledge thee to be the Lord.
16:09All the earth does worship thee, the Father everlasting.
16:14To thee, all angels cry aloud.
16:17Heaven set all the powers therein.
16:20To thee, cherubim and seraphim, continually do cry.
16:26Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabael.
16:31Heaven and earth are full of the majesty of thy glory.
16:37The glorious company of the apostles, praise thee.
16:41The goodly fellowship of the prophets, praise thee.
16:45The noble army of martyrs, praise thee.
16:50The holy church throughout all the world does acknowledge thee.
16:54The Father of an infinite majesty,
16:58thine honourable true and only Son.
17:02Also the Holy Ghost, the Comforter.
17:05Thou art the King of glory, O Christ.
17:09Thou art the everlasting Son of the Father.
17:13When thou tookest upon thee to deliver man,
17:17thou didst not a bell, the virgin's womb.
17:20For thou hast overcome the sharpness of death,
17:24thou didst open the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
17:30Thou sittest at the right hand of God in the glory of the Father.
17:35We believe that thou shalt come to be our judge.
17:40We therefore pray thee, help thy servants,
17:43whom thou hast redeemed with thy precious blood.
17:47Make them to be numbered with thy sights,
17:50in glory everlasting.
17:53O Lord, save thy people and bless thine heritage.
17:58Govern them and lift them up for ever.
18:02Day by day we magnify thee,
18:05and we worship thy name,
18:07ever, world without end.
18:10Thou save, O Lord, to keep us this day without sin.
18:15Lord, have mercy upon us,
18:17have mercy upon us.
18:20Lord, let thy mercy lighten upon us,
18:23as our trust is in thee.
18:26O Lord, in thee have I trusted,
18:28let me never be confounded.
18:32Glory be to the Father,
18:34and to the Son,
18:35and to the Holy Spirit,
18:36as it was in the beginning,
18:39is now and ever shall be,
18:41world without end.
18:44Amen.
18:55The Spirit says expressly that in later times,
18:59some will fall away from the faith,
19:01paying attention to seducing spirits
19:04and the doctrines of demons,
19:06through the hypocrisy of men,
19:08who speak lies,
19:10branded in their own conscience,
19:12as with a hot iron,
19:15forbidding marriage,
19:17and commanding to abstain from foods,
19:19which God created,
19:21to be received with thanksgiving,
19:22by those who believe and know the truth.
19:26For every creature of God is good,
19:28and nothing is to be rejected,
19:30if it is received with thanksgiving.
19:34For it is sanctified through the word of God,
19:36and through prayer.
19:39If you instruct the brothers of these things,
19:41you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus,
19:44nourished in the words of the faith,
19:46and of the good doctrine which you have followed.
19:50But refuse profane and old wives' tales.
19:54Exercise yourselves towards godliness.
19:58For bodily exercise has some value,
20:01but godliness has value in all things,
20:05having the promise of both the life which is now,
20:07and of that which is to come.
20:11This saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance.
20:15For to do this end,
20:17we both labour and suffer reproach,
20:19because we have set our trust in the living God,
20:22who is the saviour of all men,
20:24especially of those who believe.
20:28Command and teach these things.
20:31Let no man despise your youth,
20:34but be an example to those who believe,
20:37in word,
20:38in your way of life,
20:40in love,
20:40in spirit,
20:42in faith,
20:42and in purity.
20:45Until I come,
20:47pay attention to reading,
20:49to exhortation,
20:50and to teaching.
20:51Do not neglect the gift that is in you,
20:54which was given to you by prophecy,
20:57with the laying on of the hands of the elders.
21:00Be diligent in these things.
21:03Give yourself wholly to them,
21:05that your progress may be revealed to all.
21:09Pay attention to yourself and to your teaching.
21:13Continue in these things,
21:15for in doing this you will save both yourself
21:18and those who hear you.
21:21This is the word of the Lord.
21:24Thanks be to God.
21:34Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
21:37for he hath visited and redeemed his people.
21:41And hath raised up a mighty salvation for us
21:44in the house of his servant David.
21:48As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets,
21:51which have since been since the world began,
21:55that we should be saved from our enemies
21:57and from the hand of all that hate us.
22:01To perform the mercy promised to our forefathers
22:05and to remember his holy covenant.
22:08To perform the oath which he swore to our forefather Abraham,
22:13that he would give us,
22:15that would be delivered out of the hand of our enemies,
22:18might serve him without fear.
22:21Holiness and righteousness before him
22:24all the days of our life.
22:28And thou, child,
22:29shall be called the prophet of the highest,
22:32for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord
22:34to prepare his ways,
22:36to give knowledge of salvation to his people
22:39for the remission of their sins,
22:42through the tender mercy of our God,
22:45whereby the day spring from on high
22:48hath visited us,
22:50to give light to them that sit in darkness
22:53and in the shadow of death
22:55and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
23:00Glory be to the Father and to the Son
23:03and to the Holy Ghost,
23:04as it was in the beginning,
23:06is now and ever shall be,
23:09world without end.
23:11Amen.
23:18I believe in God the Father Almighty,
23:22maker of heaven and earth,
23:24and in Jesus Christ,
23:26his only Son, our Lord,
23:28who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
23:31born of the Virgin Mary,
23:33suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
23:35crucified dead and buried.
23:37He descended into hell
23:39the third day he rose again from the dead.
23:44He ascended into heaven
23:45and sitteth on the right hand
23:48of God the Father Almighty.
23:50From thence he shall come to judge
23:53the quick and the dead.
23:55I believe in the Holy Ghost,
23:58the Holy Catholic Church,
24:00the communion of saints,
24:01the forgiveness of sins,
24:03the resurrection of the body
24:06and the life everlasting.
24:09Amen.
24:12The Lord be with you
24:14and with thy spirit.
24:19Let us pray.
24:21Lord, have mercy upon us.
24:24Christ, have mercy upon us.
24:28Lord, have mercy upon us.
24:33Our Father, which art in heaven,
24:37hallowed be thy name.
24:38Thy kingdom come.
24:40Thy will be done
24:42on earth as it is in heaven.
24:45Give us this day our daily bread
24:47and forgive us our trespasses
24:50as we forgive those
24:52who trespass against us.
24:55And lead us not into temptation,
24:57but deliver us from evil.
25:00Amen.
25:03O Lord, show thy mercy upon us
25:07and grant us thy salvation.
25:11O Lord, save the King
25:13and mercifully hear us
25:15when we call upon thee.
25:19Endue thy ministers
25:20with righteousness
25:22and make thy chosen people joyful.
25:27O Lord, save thy people
25:30and bless thine inheritance.
25:35Give peace in our time, O Lord,
25:39because there is none other
25:40that fighteth for us
25:42but only thou, O God.
25:46O God, make clean our hearts within us
25:50and take not thy Holy Spirit from us.
25:59The Collect for the 21st Sunday
26:02of the Trinity
26:05Grant we beseech thee, merciful Lord,
26:08to thy faithful people
26:10pardon and peace,
26:12that they may be cleansed
26:13from all their sins
26:15and serve thee with a quiet mind.
26:18Through Jesus Christ,
26:20our Lord.
26:21Amen.
26:22Amen.
26:26O God, who art the author of peace
26:30and lover of concord,
26:31in the knowledge of whom
26:33standeth our eternal life,
26:35whose service is perfect freedom,
26:38defend us, thy humble servants,
26:41in all assaults of our enemies,
26:44that we, surely trusting in thy defence,
26:48may not fear the power of any adversaries.
26:50Through the might of Jesus Christ,
26:53our Lord.
26:55Amen.
26:59O Lord, our Heavenly Father,
27:01almighty and everlasting God,
27:03who has safely brought us
27:05to the beginning of this day,
27:07defend us in the same
27:09with thy mighty power
27:10and grant that this day
27:13we fall into no sin,
27:15neither run into any kind of danger,
27:17but that all our doings
27:20may be ordered according
27:21to thy governance
27:23to do always that
27:25which is righteous in your sight.
27:28Through Jesus Christ,
27:29our Lord.
27:30Amen.
27:34O Lord, our Heavenly Father,
27:36the high and mighty King of kings,
27:38Lord of lords
27:39and ruler of princes,
27:42who dost from thy throne
27:44behold all the dwellers on earth,
27:47most heartily we beseech thee
27:50with thy favour
27:50to behold
27:52our most gracious sovereign king,
27:54King Charles,
27:55and so replenish him
27:57with the grace of thy Holy Spirit,
27:59that he may always incline
28:01to thy will
28:02and walk in thy way.
28:05Endue him plenteously
28:06with heavenly gifts,
28:08grant him in health and wealth
28:11long to live,
28:13strengthen him,
28:14strengthen him
28:14that he may vanquish
28:16and overcome
28:17all his enemies,
28:18and finally,
28:20after this life,
28:21he may attain
28:22everlasting joy
28:23and felicity.
28:25Through Jesus Christ,
28:27our Lord.
28:28Amen.
28:32Almighty God,
28:33at the fountain of all goodness,
28:35we humbly beseech thee
28:37to bless William,
28:38Prince of Wales,
28:39and all the royal family,
28:41endue them
28:42with thy Holy Spirit,
28:44enrich them
28:45with the heavenly grace,
28:47prosper them
28:48with all happiness,
28:49and bring them
28:50to thine everlasting kingdom.
28:52through Jesus Christ,
28:55our Lord.
28:56Amen.
28:59Almighty and everlasting God,
29:01who alone workest great marvels,
29:04send down upon our bishops
29:07and curates
29:07and all congregations
29:09committed to their charge
29:11the helpful spirit
29:13of thy grace,
29:15that they may truly please thee,
29:17pour upon them
29:19the continual due
29:20of thy blessing.
29:22For of this,
29:23O Lord,
