00:00Turn some ordinary ball pit balls into the perfect holiday decor.
00:04For this project, I'm also going to use this gorgeous red fabric that I found at the thrift store.
00:10I'm going to put a little snip in the fabric so that I know how wide I need the fabric
00:14strips to be.
00:15Now that I know how long I need the fabric, I'm going to fold and cut this big piece into
00:20some long strips.
00:22With my fabric cut, it's now time to start wrapping the balls from the ball pit.
00:27I want to start by rolling the ball in the fabric, making sure to turn under the raw edges of
00:32the fabric so they're not seen.
00:34I'm placing the first ball a few inches from the end of the fabric so that I have a bit
00:39left over when I'm done.
00:42Next, I'm going to use some red thread to tie off each ball.
00:45To tie them off, I want to twist the fabric at the end of the ball so that it's nice
00:50and tight,
00:51and then I want to wrap the thread around the twisted part a few times.
00:56Finally, I'll tie a few knots in it and then snip off the ends.
00:59With both ends of the first ball tied off, it's time to add another ball.
01:04I can slip it right into the fabric folds and then twist it off to make sure it's nice and
01:09tight again.
01:11This garland is just about done, but I still need a way to hang it and some little finishing touches.
01:17To do that, I'm cutting four strips of the same fabric, about a foot and a half to two feet
01:22long, and a couple of inches wide.
01:25I want to tie off one of the strips tightly to each end of the garland and then knot it
01:31and cut off the excess.
01:33This is going to serve as a way to hang my garland.
01:36I love that this beautiful garland was made from something as ordinary as ball pit balls.
01:42It's perfect for the holiday season, but could be changed up for any time of year by changing out the
01:48fabric.
01:48I hope this has inspired you to make your own garland as well.
01:52First, we're going to need a shower rod, but we've got to make sure it's expandable.
01:56Go ahead and put it in about chest level and set it up.
01:59Not too tight, but just enough to hold it as we decorate it.
02:02Grab some garland ties.
02:03You can get these, $10 for a dollar.
02:05We're going to start with some garland, and we're going to use those ties to hold it in place.
02:09You don't have to go all the way to the edge of the shower curtain.
02:13Just enough.
02:13It's a little bit okay if some white is showing.
02:16Then we're going to take that garland and just start wrapping it all the way around.
02:19Now, once you start wrapping, there's going to be some white showing.
02:23Don't worry about that.
02:24I promise we're going to cover it later.
02:25But go ahead and just keep going all the way over.
02:28And once you get to the middle, if you need more, use that garland tie and start and end a
02:33new one right there.
02:34And then just keep wrapping all the way to the end.
02:37Once you get that wrapped up, we're going to take some bigger garland.
02:40We're going to let it hang over a little bit, maybe about 12 inches on the side.
02:44Using another garland tie, we're going to tie that down and hold it in place.
02:47Now, this one, we're not going to wrap as much as the first one.
02:52We're just going to let that hang loose.
02:53This is what's going to give us some volume on the shower rod.
02:57So go ahead and wrap it up.
02:58But again, keep it loose and let it hang over the sides.
03:02That way it adds a little bit more on the decor.
03:04Now we're going to grab some fairy lights.
03:06We want to put these on before we add any other decorations.
03:09We can start just wrapping it all the way around.
03:12On these, I had to use two of them.
03:14So I started in the middle on one and wrapped it till it got to the end.
03:17I want to make sure that light goes all the way to the bottom of the hanging garland.
03:21Next, we're going to grab some little cherries or beads that go on the end.
03:24And we're going to wrap those up also.
03:26Keep it loose.
03:27We don't need to make it too tight.
03:28Let it hang in a few spots if you need to.
03:31Let's take some ornaments and some pipe cleaner.
03:33And we're going to put those ornaments right through and put it in the middle.
03:36Let's take a black, a gold, and let's even add a red one to it.
03:40We're going to put these on and twist time so they don't move around.
03:44But then what we're going to do is take this and add this so we can put some volume onto
03:49our archway.
03:50You can take these ornaments and add them anywhere and everywhere, whatever your heart's desire.
03:55Just go ahead and fill in the gaps.
03:56Now it's time to add some poinsettias and some ribbons.
04:00Put those anywhere you want, just as long as they look good to you.
04:03This is your house and you want it to make it look good.
04:06I'm going to put these on and these are nice.
04:08They clip right on.
04:09Easy to install.
04:11Now it's time to add the final decor.
04:13I found this wonderful ribbon, extra large.
04:16I'm going to put it right in the middle.
04:17Once I get that secured, now it's time to loosen it by twisting the rod.
04:22And then we're going to raise it up into place.
04:25See, we put it together when it was down low.
04:28Easy to work with.
04:29And then we can raise it out of reach and that way we won't hit our head on it.
04:34Once we get it up there and installed, look how beautiful that turned out.
04:37And here's the fun thing.
04:38When the lights go down, you can see those fairy lights and they look great.
04:42What a wonderful decor to add to inner entry in your house.
04:46You'll start by grabbing some red Christmas balls and then some spray foam from the local hardware store.
04:52Once you've got this, head outside and you're going to want to cover your work surface in some plastic.
04:57I just grabbed a black outdoor trash bag and cut it and covered my outdoor table.
05:03You're going to take some straws and you are going to use that spray foam and spray globs all around
05:10the straw to create this bulky kernel look here.
05:15And you're going to do that by just spraying medium-sized globs all around the straw.
05:20Be careful when you're done spraying.
05:22Hold the nozzle there for a second just to make sure it doesn't come off in a string.
05:25You're going to do this with about eight straws to create eight of these globs.
05:30And then you're going to let them sit overnight.
05:32Next, you're going to grab your red Christmas balls.
05:35And I used a soldering tool for this.
05:38They get very hot.
05:40And you're going to create a hole at the bottom of the ornament directly across from where the ornament would
05:45hang.
05:46Okay, so you're creating a hole there.
05:48And then you'll also be popping the tops of the ornaments off.
05:52So essentially, you have a hole on the top and a hole on the bottom that lines up.
05:58Next, when you come back the next day, your foam pieces should be completely hard.
06:05And then you're going to just take a pair of scissors and you're going to cut off any excess straw.
06:10I grabbed myself a bamboo skewer and some twine.
06:14And I'm going to just use a piece of clear tape to tape the twine to the top of the
06:18skewer.
06:19And this is essentially going to be the needle that threads all of this together.
06:22So take that skewer and make sure the other end of your twine is knotted.
06:28And then you're going to start passing it through a red ball and then a foam piece.
06:33And a red ball and then a foam piece, repeating that pattern, passing through until you get to the end.
06:39And then you're going to just tie off either end of your twine.
06:44And then it will be time to hang.
06:45And here we're going to put it on our outside railing.
06:48And I'm just going to tie it to the railing itself.
06:50And since we have this big pass through here between the second and third rung,
06:54I'm just going to use that as a natural place to swag this lovely decor.
06:59And then I'm going to tie it up.
07:00And you can just arrange it, spread them out as you like.
07:03You can add bows to the ends.
07:05And then you have got a beautiful popcorn and cranberry oversized garland to use indoors or out.
07:13Hope you enjoy.
07:15First, I ran into the Dollar Tree and picked up some of these very cute satin hair
07:20bows from the accessories section.
07:22Apply a thin dot or a small line of hot glue along the outer edge of the bow.
07:27Carefully attach the bow to the other.
07:29Continue doing so until all bows have been connected with hot glue.
07:33Once complete, hang your bow garland by using 3M hooks, attaching fishing line,
07:38or using those handy hair clips on the back side to hang.
07:42For the more traditional style of garland, I removed the cardboard packaging along with
07:47the twist ties on the back side.
07:49Use your hot glue gun again and apply a thin line along the edge of the bow.
07:54Carefully attach the next bow by pressing the pair firmly together.
07:58Ta-da!
07:58Your very own trendy holiday garland at a fraction of the cost.
08:02Teels.
08:05Indeed.
08:09.
08:09.
08:09.
