00:00I was at the dollar store the other day and I thought let's just grab a pack of these cheap
00:04potholders and whip up a quick organizing project shall we? Start with two potholders like this.
00:10For the first one we're going to add a line of hot glue along the bottom edge. Now grab your
00:15second potholder and attach the top edge of that one to the line of glue. Fold the bottom potholder
00:21up so it covers about two-thirds of the top potholder with the loop. Now let's flip the
00:27whole thing over and fold the top two corners back next to that hanging loop. Add a little hot glue
00:32underneath the corners to hold them down nice and tight and that's it. Flip this entire thing back
00:38over and you've got an adorable little hanging pocket that you can use all around the house.
00:42For example hang it on one side of your refrigerator and you've got a handy spot for your grocery list
00:48and a pen. You could also hang one up near your front door and turn it into a tiny drop
00:53zone.
00:54Sunglasses, keys, maybe even a small wallet. And if you have a small bathroom with very little
00:58counter space this could be such a clever solution there too. Hang it on the wall for makeup brushes,
01:03skincare products, and other essentials that normally take up that precious counter space.
01:08I hung one on the bulletin board in my son's room and it's the perfect little pocket for storing
01:13his markers. These are easy for him to grab when he wants to draw and they're contained instead of
01:18rolling around all over the desk. You could even make several of these and use them in different
01:22rooms for different purposes around the house. And because you're starting with inexpensive pot
01:27holders and just a bit of hot glue, this is one of those projects that's easy to customize without
01:32spending much money at all. Wait until you see what you can make with dollar store hot pads.
01:38I'm selecting three hot pads and rotating colors of black and taupe facing good side up.
01:43After all three looped hooks are being cut off, I'm applying hot glue along the inside of an end
01:49hot pad, then overlapping the middle black hot pad over the glue. A black hot pad is being positioned
01:56on top of an end one, then moving down about an inch so the bottom has some foldable overhang.
02:02Flipping over all the hot pads, I'm applying hot glue to the overhang area, then folding the end to
02:08create a clean edge. And my new remote control holder is ready for business. I chose black and taupe
02:14since it looks great with my home decor. I'm cutting the loop off of one taupe hot pad, then folding
02:20it
02:20in half, securing the shape with a clothespin. Hot glue is being run underneath the clothespin to the
02:26end of the edge. And I can never complain about a pan handle being too hot ever again. I'm dry
02:32fitting
02:32a pretty dollar store placemat good side up, along with two coordinating hot pads on top, placed side by
02:38side. Flipping the placemat good side down, hot glue is being applied along the twine, then the top edge
02:45of the placemat is being folded over into the glue and held in place until secure. Hot glue is being
02:51applied along the edge below both clothespins, leaving the top edge unglued. My mini work apron is
02:58ready to help me stay clean while I craft. A coordinating hot pad with pattern side facing up
03:04is being placed in the center of a pretty dollar store tea towel. I'm drawing a middle horizontal
03:10line along the hot pad, then sewing a simple straight line along that mark. After folding the
03:15tea towel in half, I'm sewing on a coordinating button to the top of the hot pad on the side
03:21without the loop. And my new hanging kitchen tea towel looks stunning hanging on my kitchen stove handle.
03:27A cute pattern hot pad is being folded in half with the loop intact at one end. I'm now running
03:33a line
03:33of hot glue to close the edge while leaving the top open. And my glasses now have a safe and
03:39cute
03:39holder that can be attached to my keychain. The size is so perfect for glasses, you'd think a hot pad
03:45was
03:46invented for this very purpose. I hope this inspires you to pick up a few cute hot pads to see
03:51what you
03:51can make for your home. I picked up a few inexpensive pot holders in a couple different colors and styles
03:57and we are going to make some accessories. I'm going to use these two black pot holders with the loops
04:02on.
04:02On the sewing machine, I am just going to sew these together, leaving the top open. So I'm going to
04:07run a stitch along three sides. These pot holders are a little bit thinner, so they work well with
04:11my sewing machine here. But again, you could use hot glue or you could hand stitch this together.
04:17Now I sewed them together and I left the loops open on the outside. So I grabbed some trim with
04:23fun
04:23rivets on it and I am just going to use this as a handle for the bag. So I'm just
04:27going to glue a loop
04:28around the loop on the pot holder on each side. Then I'm going to add a little bit more of
04:32the
04:32trim to the front of it for fun. You could use a piece of chain, a piece of rope, some
04:37ribbon,
04:38fabric, anything you have. I really liked how this looked. This makes a great little bag. It's going
04:44to hold a few things. I can take it with me. I'm going to cut off the loop because we
04:49don't need the
04:49loop for this project. Now this pot holder is a little bit thick, so I'm opting for hot glue here.
04:55If you do have a sewing machine that works for this, you can definitely sew this, but hot glue
04:59is going to work just fine. So I'm really just going to fold the pot holder in half,
05:03secure it with hot glue and leave an opening on the top. This is really a blank slate. You can
05:08embellish this however you want. I have some iron-on letters here I picked up at the craft store
05:13and I am just going to add one to the front and iron it on. I love that this glasses
05:19case is nice and
05:20padded. My daughter can take it to the pool with her this summer or put it in her backpack and
05:24her
05:25glasses are not going to get damaged. I want to leave the loop on one of them, but I'm going
05:29to
05:29cut it off the other one. Now I'm going to lay one on top of the other, just overlapping about
05:33halfway,
05:34and I'm going to sew the edges together. I'm going to add a fun button to the back of this.
05:39I'm just
05:39going to sew it on so I can close the clutch. Now on the front of this, I need to
05:48fold it over and
05:49secure the edges. Again, this is a little too thick for my sewing machine, so I am just going
05:54to use some hot glue to secure the edges. This is a really versatile little clutch. It's going to fold
05:59over. The loop is going to hook onto the button and I have a storage compartment in front and another
06:04one on the back. This works for a pair of sunglasses or a few essentials. You can throw it in
06:08your bag.
06:09It's nice and quilted, so it's going to protect whatever you have inside. I hope this inspired you
06:14to pick up some potholders or upcycle some that you already have into cute accessories. Thanks so

06:29a
06:30few projects I want to make with them. First up, I want to use this pretty blue one, but I
06:35don't need
06:35the loop at the top. I'm going to use my seam rippers to remove the thread until the loop is
06:40undone.
06:40I don't want to cut off this long piece of trim, so I'm going to fold it over and use
06:45a little hot
06:46glue to hold it in place. Now I want to fold this into a cone shape. I'm going to go
06:51from the corner
06:51to corner the long way so that my cone can be a little bit larger. I'm going to roll over
06:57the
06:57bottom two corners until they create a cone, leaving the top part open. I want to add a little bit
07:02of
07:02trim, so I'm going to use this great plaid ribbon that I have. I can now slip in a set
07:07of silverware
07:07and they're going to fit perfectly. This makes my place settings look so much prettier when it's
07:13time for company. I'm starting by removing the loop and then I'm going to glue it into the cone shape.
07:19I'm going to use a little bit of lace to trim this one up. I can hold it in place
07:23with the hot glue
07:24and then I'm just going to tuck the ends under the opening around the top and around the back.
07:30Since I want to hang this cone, I'm going to use the same lace to make a little loop on
07:34the back.
07:36Now I can slip in my scissors and the other things that I use daily.
07:41This is the perfect little place to get these things off my counter and hung up neatly where
07:46I can easily get to them. I want to use this great feather potholder and add a button to start.
07:51To find the spot where I need the button, I folded the potholder over and brought the loop to the
07:56front.
07:57Now I know exactly where I need to place the button. With the button in place, I want to add
08:01some
08:02pouches inside so that I can store little things in them. I'm going to use clear sandwich bags
08:07and my hot glue gun. I want the bags to open on either end so I'm running a line of
08:13hot glue down
08:13the center of the potholder and now I can line up the bag with the end and then stick it
08:18right down
08:19into the glue. After the glue is dried, I can trim off the bottom of the bag and it's still
08:25going to
08:25stay sealed because of that line of hot glue. I'm going to add three more bags the same way so
08:30that I
08:30have two bags opening at each end of the potholder. To finish off the center where that glue is,
08:36I'm going to use a strip of burlap ribbon to just cover it up. I'm going to make this one
08:40into a
08:41little sewing kit but there are so many things that I could use this for. It's perfect really at
08:46home or for when I travel. For my last project, I'm going to make one more thing out of the
08:51potholders.
08:52To start off, I've got this dish towel and I want to add a little dab of glue to the
08:57fold line in the
08:58middle. With the towel glued, I'm going to fold over the potholder and glue the fold of the potholder
09:05to the fold of the towel. You can also see that I've already added a button the same way I
09:10did for the
09:11last project. Once this glue has dried, it's that easy and it's ready to hang. I love this type of
09:19towel. They're so great to have in the kitchen and are so handy. I hope these projects have inspired you
09:26to grab some potholders and see what you can do with them as well. The possibilities really are endless.
