00:00DeMarcus Cousins is here to tell you exactly why Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown were feuding a little bit.
00:06We can hear from DeMarcus Cousins.
00:09J.Kid really started this.
00:10Right, I could have my own team.
00:12The whole downfall of Jalen Brown and Jason Tatum, that was J.Kid.
00:17He was in the interview and he did exactly what you're saying.
00:22Like, oh, I think, how can those guys play together?
00:24And ever since then they ran with the story.
00:26That was J.Kid, bro.
00:28And he was just playing mind games to win the game.
00:30Oh, yeah, yeah, you were right.
00:32He was just trying to win a...
00:32You know how J.Kid operates.
00:34He told a lot of...
00:36What was this?
00:36He was in Dallas.
00:39They went to the championship.
00:41We went to the championship, so he seen Jalen Brown get the Eastern Conference.
00:46He said Jalen is their best player.
00:48So what he did was he did what anyone else would do.
00:52You the underdog.
00:53Let's see if they compete themselves.
00:54Yeah, I think Jalen Brown is the best player on the team.
00:59Hoping, hoping, Jason Tatum hits him off.
01:02He's going to start self-destructing.
01:06All right, so that's interesting.
01:08So that started with Jason Kidd and that series and him suggesting that Jalen Brown was the
01:15better player on the team.
01:16Would that be enough to cause a massive rift between Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown?
01:22But I think it depends on how petty Jason Tatum is.
01:24They're not around here.
01:25That rift was, I told you, started a long, long time ago because at that point in time,
01:30Jalen Brown had already won Eastern Conference MVP.
01:37So Jalen had already proven like, oh, I could do this.
01:40But I told you, the reason, the rift was probably started because of the Celtics organization and
01:46them drafting Jalen Brown and then a year later drafting Jason Tatum.
01:50But throughout that whole relationship, especially early, one was held to a different standard in
01:56just the way they were viewed.
01:57And that was Jason Tatum.
01:59And Jalen Brown, at a point in time, you could see him talk all throughout his whole career.
02:05Oh, I always had to, what was the word he used?
02:08Sacrifice.
02:09And I was always asked to do this.
02:10And I was always asked to do that where he probably felt like I'm not put on the same
02:14level as Jason Tatum when we should equally be on the same level.
02:19And so that's where the rift started.
02:20You were talking earlier about how excited you are for this NBA season.
02:24Yeah.
02:25Celtics get underway in six days.
02:29Yeah.
02:3020.
02:31I'm very excited to see how Jalen Brown does on his own.
02:35Yep.
02:36And how Jason Tatum does on his own.
02:39And to be able to make a determination there about the two of them.
02:43Tatum.
02:43Well, I think it's, I think it's completely different because Tatum is the guy on his
02:48team, right?
02:49It's Tatum's team, hands down.
02:51It's like, okay, ball goes through him.
02:53Jalen is in a different situation, which it'll probably, first year they'll probably get through
02:59it, but there'll probably be some turmoil or some friction of like, who does the ball
03:04go through?
03:05Does it go through Tyrese Maxey?
03:07Does it go through Jalen Brown?
03:10Right?
03:10Joel Embiid, when he's playing, does it then go through him?
03:13I mean, you know.
03:14Don't forget LeBron.
03:14Yeah.
03:14And then LeBron.
03:15But it's not going to be LeBron's team on the court.
03:18Like, I do think it'll be interesting to see the narrative once this season goes through.
03:22If there's no turmoil in Philly, then what was the real problem between Jason and Jalen?
03:26Because Jason got his way with having his own team.
03:29Jalen went to a team where there are other superstars on it.
03:32And if there's no turmoil there, what's the conversation going to be?
03:35For me, for this being its first year, there won't be a lot of turmoil, right?
03:42Whatever.
03:43What she's saying is that you could determine that Jason Tatum was the cause of the term.
03:49No, not in this situation here, because I think the first year in Philly, everybody's
03:54going to be, because they already hear the whispers about, oh, how are they going to play
03:57together?
03:58I think everybody's going to be on their best behavior.
04:00We're talking about the Celtics who extended Peyton Pritchard yesterday, two years, $44
04:10million for Peyton Pritchard.
04:12And this is Eddie in the car.
04:14Hello, Eddie.
04:16Hey, good morning.
04:17Hey, I like Pritchard.
04:18Pritchard's a good player.
04:19Yes.
04:19Hey, you know, for the longest time, I believe that Tatum was just jealous of Brown.
04:26I mean, even when they won the finals, I'm with him standing up there and seeing Jalen
04:30up there with the trophy.
04:31You could just see he had a little jealousy going on.
04:34And I think the ownership was never going to pay Brown.
04:38And so they found the perfect opportunity.
04:41They knew that Jalen was OK with, they knew that Tatum was OK with Jalen moving on.
04:47And I just think it was a combination of jealousy and the team owner ready to move on from Brown.
04:53And I think he took advantage of the opportunity.
04:55Yeah, I mean, I guess at the time, I didn't feel that way about Jason Tatum.
05:00I thought he was happy for Jalen Brown.
05:04I mean, I guess I could see him feeling like it was kind of a gift, like you could pick
05:09the two of them and they decided to give it to Jalen Brown because Jason Tatum gets all
05:13the accolades, whatever.
05:16Um, but I, I don't know, like, does the team seem looser than they did with Jason Tatum being
05:22the guy and, and, and, and, you know, it's kind of early to be able to determine that.
05:28Right.
05:28You know, well, they don't have two guys jockeying for the, uh, top dog position.
05:32I mean, that was the, that's the issue.
05:34Right.
05:35When you're like tall, George basically comes here and says, my role is to do whatever makes
05:41Jason Tatum feel happy and comfortable.
05:43I'm cool.
05:43I'm cool with being Robin though.
05:45But, and if you don't have one person saying that, if you have two big dogs fighting over
05:51one piece of steak, like, how do you think that it's going to work out?
05:55Uh, eventually, but to me, to me, like when all the problems were kind of put on Jalen
06:01Brown, that he wanted to be the number one in, in Boston, he wanted to be the guy, he
06:06wanted it to be his team.
06:07Then he goes to a team that that's not the case.
06:10Like for me, he was traded there.
06:13I understand that.
06:14But then you, he seems very, very happy with, with his trade to go there.
06:18It doesn't seem like he's being petty.
06:20It doesn't seem like he's making it all about himself.
06:22So I, in my mind, and I understand I'm a Jalen Brown apologist, but doesn't that negate
06:28all of the accusations against him right off the bat?
06:32Accusations in what way?
06:33That he is, he is a petty guy who doesn't like to be number two.
06:37That needs it to be all about him all the time.
06:40So you're saying it's more on Jason Tatum.
06:43Yes.
06:43If you're going to choose somebody who was petty during the whole thing, you think it's
06:47more on Jason.
06:47They gave Jason Tatum a guy who's going to bow down to him over and over again.
06:51And I hope that works out.
06:52But Jalen Brown got put in a situation that if, if not for anything else, it's more, it's
06:59more pieces of the pie.
07:00Let me ask you this.
07:01Did, did anybody think that Jalen Brown was jealous of Jason Tatum before this season?
07:10I don't think that Jalen Brown, no, I was ever jealous of Jason Tatum.
07:14I think he felt disrespected, not jealous.
07:17All right.
07:17All right.
07:17But, but Jason Tatum didn't disrespect them.
07:22Yeah.
07:23So the point that he disrespected him at the end, in my opinion, because I think he asked
07:27for him to get chipped out of here.
07:28No, no, no.
07:28But prior to Jalen Brown saying this was the best season ever and him posting, Hey, here's
07:35what the team looks like with me versus last year, prior to that, people were like, Oh,
07:40the relationship was cool.
07:41Everything was, it was all, you know, it was all sunshine, rainbows, and roses.
07:45And I always would be like, there's got, there's some friction there off the court in the sense
07:49that they just don't hang out together, but nobody had anything.
07:52And then I think what the issue was is when Jalen said some of the things he'd said this
07:57year is what brought it to everybody going.
08:00That's where it came to a head or whatever.
08:02Yes.
08:02But before that, they were just like, whatever.
08:04In my view, the issue was that last year put Jalen Brown next to Jason Tatum at the
08:12head of the table.
08:12And Jason Tatum did not want that, asked him to be traded.
08:16That's what happened.
08:18What do you mean put him at?
08:19Also, I don't think he liked, and if you're a teammate with somebody and they say it's
08:22your favorite season because you're not around.
08:25Yeah.
08:25Like, I don't think he liked that.
08:26And I don't think anybody would.
08:28Because when you say put him at the head of the table, like who put him there?
08:32His play.
08:33Yeah, but he was already there when he was finals.
08:36No.
08:37But finals MVP.
08:38Nope.
08:38Last year was different.
08:39We all agree.
08:40Last year was different.
08:40No, no.
08:40Last year was different because there was no Tatum.
08:44And he, to Greg's point, was like, look what I'm able to do.
08:47In the driver's seat.
08:49Without Jason Tatum.
08:50But he was always.
08:50The problem was the Celtics organization never put him at the seat of the head.
08:55The problem is that Tatum hated him.
08:58So, Courtney, game dog would like you to stop the false narrative that Tatum asked for him
09:02to be traded.
09:03Yeah, it's not a false narrative.
09:05That's, I made sure to say in the very beginning, I believe.
09:08Yeah, that's what you believe.
09:09Yes.
09:09And I, I'm sorry, that's, you're not going to get me off that.
09:12Yeah.
09:12So, you felt that way that, about that, maybe five years ago when they were trying to get
09:17Kevin Durant, that Tatum went to them and said, hey, we need to move on from Jalen?
09:21No, I don't remember what I was talking about five years ago.
09:24I'm just talking about this past season.
09:26No, I don't want to move the goalpost here.
09:27I'm just answering, I'm answering game dog.
09:30I love you, game dog.
09:31I believe, myself, that Jason Tatum wanted Jalen Brown shipped out of here.
09:37Especially after the things that happened during this season.
09:39Yes.
09:40And what we've seen after the season.
09:41And Paul George Tatum's coffee's ready.
09:44You might want to grab it.
