Delhi Police have placed Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde under preventive arrest following an unauthorised flash protest at Jantar Mantar. The stir occurred after authorities denotified Jantar Mantar as a designated protest venue. The leaders, along with supporters carrying the national flag, allegedly breached barricades and climbed locked gates. Police registered an FIR against them for trespassing, citing allegations of scaling gates near the Janata Dal (United) office. Authorities are also probing whether the demonstration breached a one-year peace bond reportedly signed by the leaders during earlier detentions. CJP representatives contested the police claim, maintaining that no such peace bond was executed and defending their right to demonstrate. Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged that the detained leaders were held unlawfully, denied access to legal counsel, and had their phones confiscated. The arrested leaders are being produced before an executive magistrate.

00:00And we're getting some breaking news.
00:01The CGP leaders Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde are under preventive arrest
00:07and they will be produced before the magistrate shortly.
00:11That's the latest that we are getting after Jantar Mantar breach bid.
00:15The three CGP leaders were arrested yesterday
00:17and they were staging flash protests at the barricaded Jantar Mantar.
00:22Remember, Jantar Mantar has been denotified as a protest site
00:26and the CGP leaders violated the curbs at the denotified protest site
00:30and that is when they were first detained.
00:32Now what we're learning that they are under preventive arrest
00:35and they will be produced before the magistrate shortly.
00:38Remember, we're showing you the visuals which were posted by the CGP itself
00:42in which it can be clearly seen how they were climbing the locked Jantar Mantar gates
00:47after which they were barricading also and after which they were detained by the cops.
00:53Not just these three leaders, there were other CGP workers also along with them.
00:58They were staging a flash protest.
00:59They had the tricolor in their hand
01:01and the caption that they wrote while posting this video was hands of Jantar Mantar.
01:06So they were essentially also protesting not just against the chief election commissioner
01:09but also against the denotification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site.
01:16And now the cops are also probing if the CGP violated the one-year peace bond
01:21that they had signed on Sunday when they were released from detention
01:25after being under detention for more than 20 hours.
01:29And my colleague Amit Bhardwaj is now joining us with more details on this.
01:33Amit, we're learning that these CGP leaders have been placed under preventive arrest.
01:38Now what lies next?
01:39We're learning that they will be produced before the magistrate.
01:42Will they be released or will they be in custody for more time?
01:51Anjali, if you look at the developments last time on 10th of October,
01:55it was a similar turn of events.
01:58The only difference was that Abhijit, Saurabh and Ashutosh were inside Air India aircraft
02:04when the Delhi police picked them up from Delhi airport.
02:07And after that, there were no details of their whereabouts.
02:10The lawyers did not know where exactly they are.
02:13And they did not have their phones either.
02:15And it was only around the same time in the morning when three leaders of the CGP were produced
02:21in front of executive magistrate.
02:23And they were given bail from the police station itself.
02:26Now a similar procedure, SOP seems to be being followed by Delhi police.
02:32Even in this case when Saurabh and Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkai Shinde,
02:36three leaders of the CGP along with their supporters had breezed into Jantar Mantar.
02:40So ideally, you would see any detainees.
02:43Yesterday, we saw many other detainees getting detained by Delhi police,
02:47protesters getting detained by Delhi police.
02:49And they were eventually let go by evening as well.
02:52But in case of CGP leaders, the Delhi police seems to be using this SOP.
02:58So possibly they waited till today morning.
03:02Again, same exercise can be taken over.
03:05Magistrate will be there.
03:06Maybe they could be reprimanded by the magistrate as well as the Delhi police has been claiming
03:10that they had signed a one-year peace bond as well.
03:15That they will not breach peace for at least one year.
03:17Amit, I'll come to that point because there's a lot of confusion over the peace bond.
03:21On one hand, the cops claim that a one-year peace bond was signed by the three leaders,
03:27Dipke, Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka on Sunday.
03:30Whereas the CGP leaders claim that we did not sign any bond and we are free to protest any time.
03:41Right, Anjali.
03:42So that's what I was saying.
03:43The Delhi police is claiming that they have signed a peace bond,
03:46that they would not disrupt peace for one year.
03:49And on the other side, the CGP is saying that we have not signed any such bond.
03:54Now, even in that case, you know, protesting at Jantar Mantar, can that be a breach of peace?
04:02That is the question.
04:03And possibly this will be the argument by the lawyers of CGP as well.
04:07Because they, like many other organizations and pressure groups,
04:12are claiming that they would want unrestrained access to Jantar Mantar like earlier.
04:18And you cannot denotify Jantar Mantar as the protest site.
04:21Why it is being said, even if you look at the argument made by Rahul Gandhi yesterday,
04:27you know, the India block meeting that happened yesterday,
04:29the similar argument was put forward is that Jantar Mantar has to be the place of protest.
04:36You cannot take it away from the people.
04:38So that was also a statement that was being made by Saurabh, Ashutosh, Ajinkayi yesterday
04:44when they raised Jantar Mantar with Tirangas in their hand.
04:47And so, but we'll have to look into this from the legal aspect,
04:51whether Delhi police is making a stronger case against them.
04:54That look, first they were detained, after that they were let go from the police station
05:01by the executive magistrate when they signed a peace bond, which CGP disputes.
05:07And again, they have done the same.
05:09So there could be a possibility of building up a case of a repeat offender in this case.
05:14Back to you.
05:15All right, Amit, thank you for those details.
05:17We'll keep coming back for more updates on this story.
05:20So trouble seems to be mounting for the CGP leaders who have been placed under preventive arrest.
05:26And what we're also learning is that the Delhi police have also registered an FIR against the CGP leaders.
05:32Remember, this comes after there was a breach of barricading that was done at Jantar Mantar,
05:37which has been denotified as a protest site.
05:39But these leaders, along with other CGP workers, tried to enter the Jantar Mantar illegally,
05:46and after which they were detained by the cops.
05:49And now what we're learning is that they have been placed under preventive arrest.
05:53They will be produced before the magistrate shortly.
05:56And a case of trespassing has been registered based on a complaint alleging that these CGP leaders gailed the gates
06:03to enter the JDU office.
06:05Now, CGP founder Abhijit Dipke has alleged that were allegedly illegally detained and even denied access to legal counsel.
06:13Accusing the police of acting like kidnappers, Dipke has also asserted that denotifying the site will not silence them
06:20or erase the democratic impulse driving the movement.
06:50Accusing the police of acting like this is the case.
07:02Thank you so much.
