00:00Bollywood actress Huma Khureshi has recently shared a bold statement amid the ongoing protests
00:05done by the people in Delhi and Mumbai, led by the Kokoro Jinta Party demanding resignation
00:11of the Chief Election Commissioner Janesh Kumar.
00:14The actress on Sunday evening took to her social media platform and posted a couple
00:19of slides with text written on it that read,
00:22We are the world's largest democracy.
00:24The right to peaceful protest and the demand for accountability are fundamental democratic
00:29rights, not favors granted by those in power.
00:33Peaceful dissent is not a crime.
00:35Asking questions is not a crime.
00:38Demanding accountability is not a crime.
00:41A democracy must allow its citizens to raise their voices without fear of intimidation or
00:46harassment.
00:47Suppressing peaceful protest undermines the very values we claim to uphold.
00:52While further clarifying her role in the matter, the actress wrote,
00:56Let me be clear, I stand with no political party or individual.
01:01I stand with citizens demanding accountability with peaceful protesters and with every Indian
01:06exercising their democratic right to dissent.
01:09My love for this country is precisely why I cannot remain silent.
01:14I know speaking up may invite abuse, personal attacks, scrutiny of my finances or professional
01:20consequences.
01:21So be it.
01:22I have nothing to hide, nothing to apologize for and no need to prove my patriotism.
01:28At last, the actress wrote,
01:30Patriotism is not blind silence.
01:32Democracy is not blind obedience.
01:35And dissent is not anti-national.
01:37The world is watching.
01:39We must do better.
01:40Jai Hind.
01:41On the professional work front, Huma made her acting debut with Anura Kashif's two-part crime
01:46drama, Gangs of Vasaipur.
01:48And in the recent times, the actress was seen in a number of films including Baby Do Die Do,
