BIBLICAL DISCERNMENT: Knowing the Difference Between Right & Almost Right
Have you ever encountered something that looked right, sounded right, or even seemed spiritual, but something told you to pause?
That's where Biblical Discernment matters.
Charles Spurgeon put it powerfully; "Discernment is not a matter of telling the difference between right and wrong; rather it is telling the difference between right and almost right."

00:00The
00:00...
00:01...
00:04...
00:06...
00:14...
00:15...
03:41We're not having the boost tonight and that's for those who have been following know exactly
03:48why.
03:48That's because we have actually moved.
03:50It was a sudden thing that happened and we have to move from Ballarat to Mildura, which
03:54we are very, very happy that we have moved from Ballarat, which is a lot sunnier and a lot
04:00nicer, but there has been...
04:04We've still been packing as well.
04:06Yeah, there's still a lot of unpacking.
04:09There were some issues as well that we have to deal with, hence the reason why it's taken
04:12so long.
04:13That's why we've had, I think, three or four weeks now off.
04:17But we are here for you.
04:20But we are here for you and as we've always said, send in your prayer requests.
04:23We will pray and continue to pray for you.
04:25In terms of today's message, it is a quick one, but it is timely.
04:29Mm-hmm.
04:30We just wanted to let you know that we're going to do our very best for next week.
04:35So, we do apologize for the lighting, as you can see, the lighting and everything, it was
04:40a quick thing, spur of the moment, that we wanted to do a quick video for you guys, for
04:45everybody, so that you know we're still alive, we're still going for God.
04:50Amen?
04:50Amen.
04:51All right.
04:53All right.
04:54So, today, like I said, I know it's been a few weeks, and next week we'll have whatever
05:01the Holy Spirit, whatever the Lord leads us to speak about, but in the last few days,
05:06in the last few weeks, the things that we've been encountering, I think it's also very vital
05:11that we speak about those things and the times, and it's got to do with the times that we are
05:15living in.
05:15Because the reality is, if you look at the times, if you look at the things that are going
05:20on in the world, we need more than ever discernment, discernment, discernment.
05:27Things are not getting better.
05:28Mm-hmm.
05:30Things are getting worse, and I'm not trying to bring fear or trying to be negative, it
05:35is just a fact, and as much as there is still revivals and things going on, the reality is
05:41the majority of the world, especially in the Western world, is deteriorating.
05:45There is a lot going on.
05:48Things are getting more and more upside down, they are getting more and more perverse, tyrannical,
05:57whatever you want to call it, but it is happening.
06:00Nevertheless, I do believe, and we've been discussing the last night, we discussed about
06:04that, that it's, we're entering into a Goshen moment.
06:08What I mean by Goshen, I'm not going to be talking to you about raising some cows and pigs and
06:14getting a farm somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and getting your guns and protecting yourself.
06:19I'm not talking about that.
06:21No.
06:21I'm talking about the Goshen of the Bible.
06:23I'm talking about the fact that God did not take his chosen ones out of the darkness.
06:28He blessed them within the darkness.
06:31That's right.
06:32Inside of the darkness, that they became a light onto the world.
06:36We are going to shine even brighter as things get darker.
06:39That's right.
06:40And discernment is a key, and the Bible tells us about that.
06:44There's many Bible verses.
06:45It talks about how discernment will be the most important gift in the end times.
06:50And mark my words, we are living in the end times.
06:52That's right.
06:53So, in the powerful true words of Prince of Preachers, Charles Spurgeon, discernment,
07:01because it's important that we understand what is discernment, what are you talking about?
07:04Discernment is not a matter of telling the difference between right and wrong.
07:09Rather, it is telling the difference between right and almost right.
07:15That's right.
07:16So, whether we are dealing with decisions, relationships, teachings, opportunities,
07:22circumstances, or spiritual influences, we need more than human reasoning.
07:28We need biblical discernment.
07:31Ephesians chapter 5 verse 15 to 17 from EXP says this.
07:37So, be very careful how you live, walk.
07:40Do not live or walk like those who are not wise, foolish, but live wisely like those who are wise.
07:49Take advantage of every opportunity or make the most of your time.
07:55Remember the time we are living.
07:57Redeeming the times and seasons.
08:00Because these are evil times.
08:03The days are evil.
08:04So, do not be foolish, ignorant, but learn what the Lord wants you to do or understand the Lord's will.
08:13Amen.
08:14So, emphasis on, as we just heard, walk carefully, walk wisely, make the most of your time, and understand the
08:26will of the Lord.
08:27That is so vital when it comes to discernment.
08:30A.W. Tozer put it this way.
08:33Among the gifts of the Spirit, scarcely is one of greater practical usefulness than the gift of discernment.
08:43This gift should be highly valued and frankly sought as being most indispensable in these critical times.
08:52This gift will enable us to distinguish the shaft from the wheat and to divide the manifestations of the flesh
09:00from the operations of the Spirit.
09:03That is the biggest key point that we want to talk about today.
09:10Dividing, distinguishing, discerning the manifestations of the flesh from the operations of the Spirit.
09:16Because there's a lot of manifestations of the flesh going on in so-called Christian circles.
09:22And it's nothing more than just, as I just said, manifestations of the flesh.
09:27Being called by the Spirit, but it's not.
09:30It's flesh.
09:31And we need to be very careful with this.
09:34So, in saying that, I want to just quickly touch on one story, one amazing story in the Bible.
09:41And that is the death and resurrection of Lazarus.
09:44What has this got to do with discernment?
09:46Good question.
09:47We're going to tell you right now.
09:48Now, we're going to start, and that is found in the book of John, chapter 11, verses 1 to 44.
09:55We're not going to read the whole thing.
09:56We're going to touch on specific verses.
09:59The reason why is because we want to point out those key points for today's message.
10:05Discernment, discernment, discernment.
10:06Amen?
10:06Amen.
10:07So, John 11, verses 1 to 44.
10:09We're going to be reading from the New King James Version.
10:11And every now and then, I'll throw in some key points as we read, as we alternate.
10:16Okay.
10:17I'll throw in some key points so that we get the gist of today's message.
10:22Okay.
10:22Number one.
10:24Number one.
10:26George.
10:28Yes.
10:28Number one.
10:29Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary, and her sister Martha.
10:38Verse 2.
10:39It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped his feet with her hair,
10:46whose brother Lazarus was sick.
10:49Therefore the sister sent to him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.
10:56So the sister sent for Jesus to come so that he wouldn't die.
10:59Now, verse 4.
11:01When Jesus heard that, he said, this sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God,
11:08that the Son of God may be glorified through it.
11:14There's one key point I want you to see.
11:15Mm-hmm.
11:16I want us to see.
11:17The times that we are living right now, the evil times that we are living right now.
11:20We must understand this.
11:22By the flesh, you would have reacted.
11:25By the flesh, you would have gone, yeah, yeah, yes, yes, sure.
11:27I'm coming.
11:27I'm coming right now.
11:28You would have interrupted.
11:29You would have stopped whatever you are doing because we find out that he was very
11:33close to this family.
11:34Jesus was very close.
11:35He ends up weeping for Lazarus.
11:37So he was very close to this family.
11:39Yeah, he didn't give up.
11:40He didn't panic.
11:41He didn't go by the flesh.
11:43No.
11:43In fact, in this verse, verse 4, we hear him saying, this sickness is not unto death.
11:50What?
11:51When we find out that Lazarus ends up dying and he arrives there four days later.
11:59Well, let's keep going.
12:00Let's keep going.
12:01So, but for the glory of God, but for the glory of God, there was a reason, there was a
12:07purpose why he had to delay.
12:10That's right.
12:10That's called discernment.
12:11You need to discern the times.
12:13You need to discern the phases, the timing of your actions too.
12:19It's not just listening to God's voice, knowing what he's saying to you, and then just going
12:24for it.
12:26Timing is very important.
12:27You may listen to God's voice.
12:28You may get it right.
12:29But if you get the timing wrong, there's consequences for it.
12:34Exactly.
12:34Okay.
12:35Verse 5.
12:36Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.
12:41Verse 6.
12:42So when he heard that he was sick, he stayed two more days in the place where he was.
12:49Verse 7.
12:50Then after this, he said to the disciples, let us go to Judea again.
12:58Verse 8.
12:59The disciples said to him, Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone you.
13:03And are you going there again?
13:06Verse 9.
13:07Jesus answered, are there not 12 hours in the day?
13:12If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble because he sees the light of this world.
13:17Now, there's many things we can take out of that verse.
13:20I want to emphasize this.
13:21And you're probably going to say that's over spiritual.
13:23No, it's not over spiritual.
13:25It's the truth.
13:27This is the point that I want to emphasize.
13:29Jesus wasn't just talking about the day, the physical day.
13:32He was talking about the light in the darkness.
13:35He was talking about that he is the light.
13:37He is the resurrection.
13:38And we end up seeing that later on.
13:42Verse 10.
13:44But if one walks in the night, he stumbles because the light is not in him.
13:50So basically, like George was saying, discernment is the same thing.
13:53Discernment basically brings things to light, right?
13:56If you have no discernment, you're doing things in the dark.
13:59You're still doing.
14:00It's a difference between someone brooming a house in the dark and someone brooming a house in the light, right?
14:08You will be able to cast out all the dust more and have a cleaner place than when you were
14:14doing it in the dark.
14:16Amen.
14:17Verse 11.
14:18These things he said, and after that he said to them,
14:22Our friend Lazarus sleeps.
14:26What?
14:27But I go that I may awake him, that I may wake him up.
14:32But I go that I may wake him up.
14:35Was not just talking about waking him up from a sleep.
14:38He was talking about bringing light into darkness.
14:43Waking him up so that he could be the light in him and resurrect him from his situation.
14:49What has this got to do with the times right now?
14:51We are entering into times over the next few years.
14:55Right now, if you think this is hard, it's going to get harder.
14:59I'm not trying to be negative.
15:00It's the truth.
15:01The devil is doing everything he wants to because he's running out of time.
15:08It's running out of time, so he's going full gone hope against Christians, against nations, against people.
15:15And we need to understand that in the darkness, in these really dark times, that we must walk very closely
15:25to Jesus.
15:26We must focus on him through his word, through prayer, through all those things.
15:31Relationship is very, very important.
15:33And discernment comes out of that.
15:35That's right.
15:37Out of that discernment, that's where your obedience brings forth fruit.
15:42Right?
15:42Because if you don't have discernment and you just obey anything, just because you've got partial word, not understanding the
15:49time, you will stay in the same place and not understanding why there is no manifestation on what's been told
15:55to you by God.
15:56You know?
15:57Number 12.
15:58I mean, verse 12.
16:00Then his disciples said, Lord, if he sleeps, he will get well.
16:06Verse 13.
16:08However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that he was speaking about taking rest and sleep.
16:14See what I'm talking about here.
16:16So they still couldn't recognize, they couldn't discern, they couldn't understand what Jesus was talking about.
16:21And we need to be careful because the times we are living in, we must not be babies anymore.
16:28We must be very mature.
16:29We must seek maturity.
16:31We must develop our gifts.
16:32And we must do it now because things are developing super fast.
16:37AI, all those things are developing extremely fast.
16:42Amen?
16:42Amen.
16:43Okay.
16:43Verse 14.
16:44Then Jesus said to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
16:4815.
16:50And I am glad, this is Jesus speaking, for your sakes, for our sakes, that I was not there.
16:59That you may believe.
17:02Nevertheless, let us go to him.
17:05Again, he confirms here, it had to happen that way so that we would believe that what Jesus, that Jesus
17:12is the light, that Jesus is the resurrection, that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.
17:18There is no one else but through Jesus.
17:20Amen?
17:21Amen.
17:21All right.
17:22Number 16.
17:23Verse 16.
17:24Then Thomas, who is called the twin, said to his fellow disciples, let us also go, that we may die
17:31with him.
17:33Again, they had no clue what he was talking about.
17:36They were clueless.
17:37We cannot be clueless, church.
17:39We can't be clueless anymore.
17:41We cannot continue to play games any longer.
17:44Remember, this is getting serious now out there.
17:47There's a lot of things up against the church and against us.
17:52And yes, the Bible does tell us that nothing can stand against the church.
17:55I understand that.
17:57But he's talking about the church that follows Jesus.
17:59That's right.
18:00He's talking about those who walk with Jesus.
18:02That's right.
18:02If you're not walking with Jesus, very simple, very easily, you'll be deceived.
18:07But that is not our portion.
18:09Amen?
18:09Amen.
18:10Okay.
18:10Verse 17.
18:11So when Jesus came, he found that he had already been in the tomb four days.
18:19He was dead.
18:21Couldn't get deader than that, if that's even a word.
18:24Okay.
18:25Now let's skip to verse 21.
18:28Now Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.
18:35Again, there will be moments.
18:37You'll come up against moments in the next few years.
18:39I'm telling you, we will all come up against this.
18:42In the next few years, as they tighten everything, as they scrutinize everything, it's going to
18:48get tougher.
18:49And it's going to feel like these moments.
18:51Like Martha, Jesus, you're here.
18:53You say that you are with me.
18:55But if you acted, I wouldn't have to go through this.
18:58I wouldn't have to suffer.
19:00My this, my that will not have to die, will not have to go through that trouble.
19:06But the story doesn't end there.
19:07Mm-hmm.
19:08That's what we must remember.
19:09Because we will come up against things which will require supernatural, and I mean, bigger
19:16than ever before, supernatural intervention.
19:19Mm-hmm.
19:19And the only way that's going to happen is when we're walking in discernment, we're walking
19:22closely with Jesus.
19:23Amen?
19:24Amen.
19:24Okay.
19:25Verse 22.
19:27But even now, she continued to say, this is Martha speaking to Jesus, but even now I
19:31know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.
19:35You would think that by this verse that she's saying, but you know what, I believe you're
19:40going to raise my brother-in-law, my brother-in-law, my brother from the dead.
19:45But no.
19:46Because listen.
19:48Jesus, verse 23.
19:50Jesus said to her, your brother will rise again.
19:53Verse 24.
19:54Martha said to him, I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
20:00So what was she hoping for?
20:03There's speculation, many different speculations, but I don't want to emphasize that.
20:07What I want to determine here, what I want us to take out of this is, at least she had
20:14some hope.
20:14We don't know exactly what that hope was, but she held on to some hope.
20:18That is key.
20:20That's right.
20:20We must hold on to some hope, no matter how little, and no matter how, even if it's a hope
20:29that is misunderstood, like in this situation.
20:31There's still hope there.
20:32That's right.
20:33That Jesus can do it.
20:34If you have that hope, he will do it.
20:36Okay?
20:37So listen to verse 25.
20:40Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life.
20:43He who believes in me, though he may die, he shall live.
20:48Verse 26.
20:49And whoever lives and believes in me, he shall never die.
20:57Do you believe this?
21:01Verse 27.
21:02She said to him, yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the son of God, who is
21:07to come into the world.
21:09Now, let's skip to verse 35.
21:12So we've gone from 27.
21:13Let's skip to verse 35.
21:15You can read it on your own, this whole story, so it makes a little bit more sense.
21:20But I'm just emphasizing, as I said at the beginning, specific points which are so vital
21:24for the gift of discernment, which we must exercise in these days.
21:30Verse 35.
21:31Jesus wept.
21:35Jesus wept.
21:37Why am I emphasizing this?
21:39He's not clueless.
21:40He's not just standing and occupied with somebody else and wait your turn.
21:45No.
21:46He wept, which means he knows exactly what you're going through.
21:49And when you're suffering, he suffers with you.
21:52That's right.
21:52But there is a timing.
21:53There is a timing for everything.
21:55God is very specific in the way he acts and he has to be.
21:59Yes.
22:00Verse 36.
22:02Before we continue on, because God is a God of purpose.
22:04So you see when he said that God may receive the glory because there was a purpose behind it.
22:13Discernment actually brings us into alignment with God's purpose.
22:18Amen.
22:19Verse 36.
22:20Then the Jews said, see how he loved him.
22:26Verse 37.
22:27You would think, oh wow, they can discern that he loved him.
22:32Why?
22:32Because he was crying.
22:34Don't go by physical appearance.
22:36Don't go by what you sense with your senses, physical senses.
22:40Mm-mm.
22:41We must be led by the spirit more than our physical flesh.
22:46Much more.
22:47Verse 37 says, and some of them said, could not this man who opened the eyes of the blind also
22:53have kept this man from dying?
22:54So one moment they're praising him and saying, oh, look at him.
22:57He really loved him.
22:58But the next moment they're already saying, but why didn't he come early and save him from his death?
23:04We can't act like that.
23:06We can't react like that.
23:07Amen.
23:08Amen.
23:09Okay.
23:09Let's skip now to verse 40.
23:12Jesus said to her, did I not say to you that if you would believe, you would see the glory
23:18of God?
23:21And verse 43, I'm skipping to, says, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
23:30Verse 44.
23:32And he who had died came out, bound hand and foot with graves closes.
23:38And his face was wrapped with a cloth.
23:41Jesus said to them, lose him and let him go.
23:45Here is so important.
23:47Let me point out, I think it's two points I want to point out here.
23:50Mm-hmm.
23:51Lord, help me to remember them.
23:53Uh, verse 43, he cried out with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
23:57Who cried out with a loud voice?
23:58Jesus.
23:59That's right.
23:59In your situation, you keep faith.
24:01You keep faithful.
24:03You, you exercise discernment.
24:06Jesus will step in.
24:07Jesus will act through you.
24:09Jesus will act through Holy Spirit.
24:10But Jesus will act.
24:12Jesus will speak.
24:13And when he speaks, it will happen.
24:15It will happen.
24:16But there is a right time.
24:19God's timing.
24:20And then verse 44.
24:22So remember, timing is important.
24:24Verse 44 says, right at the end, Jesus said to them, lose him and let him go.
24:30Do not think though that you're going to get it your way.
24:34Hmm.
24:35You have to understand that when Jesus acts in, when God acts in his timing, it will come
24:41God's way.
24:42Not your way.
24:42Not what other pastors say.
24:44Not what the prophet says.
24:45What God says in your life.
24:48That's right.
24:48They are useful.
24:49I'm not saying to disrespect them.
24:50Don't misunderstand me.
24:51What I'm saying is, God will do things his way.
24:55So have an open mind.
24:58In terms of discernment.
25:00Discern.
25:01Have faith.
25:02Hold on to that faith.
25:03Keep close to God, to Jesus.
25:06But understand that the solution, the answer comes in a different way.
25:10How do you see that in verse 44?
25:12Well, he said, come out.
25:14He came out.
25:15But he still came out, bound hand and feet.
25:18You would go, what?
25:19Can't he just say, come out?
25:21And the man comes out just looking perfect with nice, beautiful clothes.
25:26No.
25:26He was still looking like a dead mummy walking out.
25:29And I'm talking about the Egyptian mummies.
25:31He was still coming out.
25:33Some people would still say, oh my God, that's a ghost or that's freaky.
25:37That's the money because he's coming out.
25:39No.
25:40But Jesus said, lose him and let him go.
25:42There was a purpose for everything, including that part.
25:46He had to come out like that.
25:47And Jesus had to say, lose him and let him go.
25:51There is a purpose in everything we go through.
25:54That's what I'm trying to say here.
25:56Because the times that we are heading towards will be hard.
26:00There will be things that we don't understand.
26:02And we will go through things that we're going, that we will think that's it.
26:06It's over.
26:07But it's not.
26:08We can see in this story.
26:09That's right.
26:10Even if it means you think you're in your last breath and all of a sudden you come back alive.
26:15Hey man, it's going to get to that point.
26:18The Bible doesn't lie.
26:19No.
26:19Amen.
26:20Amen.
26:22That's you, baby.
26:25We must remember, discernment isn't given to us to make us fearful, right?
26:30Discernment is given to help us walk wisely.
26:34It's not designed to make us suspicious of people either.
26:38It's not tinfoil hat, right?
26:40It's designed to help us remain faithful to God.
26:43It's not about trying to prove that we are spiritually superior either.
26:48It's about becoming more obedient, surrendered to Jesus Christ.
26:53And when we exercise discernment by leading of Holy Spirit, our response should not be of pride.
27:00It should be humility.
27:03For more on discernment, check out on our previous messages like the urgency of the times or discernment's declarations.
27:13Amen.
27:13All right.
27:14Let's finish this with prayer and declaration of discernment.
27:18Amen.
27:19Amen.
27:19So some of you may be thinking about, that's you, George, because, and Sabrina, because you guys are ministers.
27:23What if you don't have that gifts like you?
27:26Yes, you do have them.
27:27The Bible does say that the kingdom of God is within us.
27:30That's right.
27:30Same kingdom of God that is within me is within you.
27:33The same Holy Spirit that lives inside of me, as the Word of God says, that when you give your
27:37life to God,
27:37and you call upon Holy Spirit for baptism of Holy Spirit and fire, you receive, you become the indwelling Holy
27:45Spirit.
27:45That's why the Bible tells us that we end up having the joy of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
27:51You have the same Holy Spirit.
27:52That's right.
27:52The only difference is I may exercise my giftings.
27:56That's right.
27:57I may exercise my time with God, my relationship with God, longer than you.
28:04Mm-hmm.
28:05Or there's definitely other people out there that have been Christians a lot longer than I and spend a lot
28:10more time with God.
28:11So you need to be aware of that.
28:14But you do have the same Holy Spirit and you do have the kingdom of God in you.
28:18So I want to declare Matthew 13, 15 to 16 over us.
28:23Matthew 13, 15 to 16 says in the Amplified Classic,
28:42Sounds familiar?
28:46Lest they see and perceive with their eyes and hear and comprehend the sense with their ears and grasp and
28:53understand with their heart and turn and I should heal them.
28:57But blessed, happy, fortunate and to be envied are your eyes because they do see.
29:04Blessed, happy, fortunate and to be envied are our eyes because they do see.
29:13Yes, Lord.
29:14And our ears because they do hear in Jesus name.
29:19In Jesus name.
29:20We decree and declare John 14 verse 17 from the AMPC.
29:24The spirit of truth whom the world cannot receive, welcome, take to its heart because it does not see him
29:32or know and recognize him.
29:34But you know and you recognize him.
29:37We know and we recognize him.
29:39For he lives with us constantly and will be in us.
29:46Lord, we thank you, Lord God, that we discern your voice, Lord God.
29:50We know the difference between what is your voice and what is not your voice.
29:54Help us, Lord, in discerning and in being obedient unto your voice and seeking discernment.
30:00Yes, you can seek discernment.
30:03Pray and ask God, Lord, I want more discernment in my life.
30:06Help me with it.
30:07Keep going.
30:09Amen.
30:10So let's pray.
30:10And yes, and we'll do everything that we can to be organized, to be better organized next week, to have
30:21everything up and ready because we're doing our best to unpack everything, to get everything done and make sure that
30:29we are nice and fully restored, fully settled so that we can get back to work, get back to what
30:36we're doing because that is our heart.
30:38That is our passion. Amen.
30:39Amen.

31:19someone else.
31:20Christmas is nearby.
31:22Just buy it and, you know, give it as a blessing unto others.
31:25Nevertheless, we just want to thank you all who's been supporting us financially and prayerfully and those who's been with
31:33us on this journey.
31:33We appreciate it and we pray that we continue on being a light unto the world according to our Lord
31:40Jesus Christ.

31:45We bless all our partners.
31:47We bless all our friends and family.
31:49And we thank you for what is ahead.
31:53That's right.
31:53We thank you for the times ahead, Lord, that will shine brighter, just like that Goshen.
31:59In the middle of the desert, in the middle of Egypt, we decree and declare that we will shine brighter
32:07than ever before.
32:08Yes, Lord.
32:08In Jesus name.
32:10Amen.
32:11Amen.
