Voting has concluded in the crucial Tamil Nadu by-elections for the Madurantakam and Dharapuram assembly constituencies, recording brisk voter participation. Till 5 PM, Madurantakam recorded an 83.86 percent turnout, while Dharapuram registered 78.53 percent. The high turnout reflects significant public engagement following earlier elections and the impact of the SIR exercise. Political contenders from the DMK, AIADMK, TVK, and NTK engaged in intense battles across the two seats, with parties expressing confidence about voter support. In Dharapuram, situated in the Kongu region, observers noted silent voter sentiment alongside the influence of the AIADMK symbol. Counting and results are scheduled for Friday.

00:01Voting has come to an end in the crucial bi-poll in Tamil Nadu, in two seats, Madhuran Thakam as
00:06well as Dharapuram.
00:08And there's been brisk, high voter turnout recorded in both seats.
00:11Till 5pm, the numbers in Madhuran Thakam, the voter turnout, 83.86%, huge number there.
00:18In Dharapuram, 78.53%.
00:21So both the seats seeing brisk voting, much like what we saw months ago in April during the elections.
00:27People coming out in large numbers, but also, importantly, the impact of the SIR exercise.
00:33Let's in fact get you all of the reactions that have come in through the day as voting continued in
00:39these two seats.
01:12See, actually, the ground is very positive and people are very happy to bring a confident as well as DMK
01:22to the back to this constituency to serve the people.
01:25Anger has been able to see from the face of the Madhuran Thakam electorate.
01:30Therefore, they want a change.
01:32They are willing, wholeheartedly, with unanimousity, they come forward to the polling session and they are casting their vote for
01:42the DMK.
01:42So if it is a challenge, I ask my brother, Mr. Adhavarajanam, to keep his resignation ready on 9th.
01:50Pramod Madhav is joining us live from Madhuran Thakam, Anuga Keshav from Dharapuram.
01:55Just quickly, Pramod, first, what do you make of the voter turnout?
02:02Well, just like you mentioned, Rakshita, this whole time also, it seems to be quite a lot of voter turnout
02:05for this place.
02:06This is Madhuran Thakam.
02:07And it looks like the pattern that we observed in April, May of 2026, that could be a kind of
02:13like similar pattern when it comes to Madhuran Thakam.
02:15I'm speaking about Madhuran Thakam in particular.
02:17However, AIDMK candidate here who spoke to us clearly says that this is a fight between dharma and adharma,
02:22while the DMK candidate very clearly says that the people are completely upset with the TVK government.
02:27The TVK government, the candidate very clearly says that this time also the Gen C will definitely support the TVK
02:32over here, Rakshita.
02:34Anuga Keshav is live with us from Dharapuram.
02:36Anuga, what have you seen through the day in Dharapuram?
02:38A seat also that seemed responding not as much as Madhuran Thakam, but still healthy voter turnout.
02:47Well, in fact, Rakshita and Dharapuram, it's particularly in the Kongu region, right?
02:51People are largely silent, they're quite tight-lipped.
02:54I could sense a sense of disappointment with the people with the fact that there has been a candidate jump.
02:59But the fact that the power of the magical two leaves symbol still remains strong, particularly in Dharapuram in Kongunadu.
03:07But particularly over here, the last time, AIDMK won by a margin, won by 81,000 votes.
03:13So this time, it's going to be very interesting to really find out if TVK will be able to score
03:18past AIDMK or will DMK make a comeback.
03:21So certainly in Kongunadu, all the parties, in fact, four parties in TK included,
03:25are going ahead with all their might to sort of win in Kongunadu.
03:29Okay, interesting to see what really the result will throw up.
03:32Reminder that that's on Friday and we'll track that very closely.
03:35Thanks Pramoda and Arga for those updates.
