02:47to evaluate what you got on your roster right now and it's before the trade deadline so you're going
02:51to have more time to uh if this makes sense to kind of scout you know your own guys maybe

02:57other guys around the league if you do want to make a move which they we know that they were

03:54that's what i'm just looking at like what do you you want chris spielman to come down from the
03:57booth and start calling place like you're going to bring in a new coach and completely revamp your
04:03entire it's not going to happen in a week right like it doesn't happen like that but
04:09here's the thing john and i think if you've ever been through it when you have a coach that gets
04:14removed from uh you know a particular position group or side of the ball or whatever it is
04:23um play calling you you you feel that as a player that it's your fault and generally it picks up

04:30urgency a little bit i don't know if i don't know if that's going to make a huge difference just
04:35because it's not like i don't think any of us are sitting here right now and saying this defense is
04:41underperforming with the talent that they have i think that we're hoping that the practice squad
04:48guys performing to their level we're we're hoping that man they could put together a good game plan
04:53and go out there and give you some of these you know great efforts and and great performances and
04:58get you like one or two you know game-changing plays we're hoping for that but i don't think any
05:04of us are sitting here right now if they had the full compliment you know with this not an excuse
05:08but a
05:09full compliment with you know your two starting all pro safeties right and they were performing like
05:14this i think we could easily say okay the coaching is not working we have way too many studs on

05:21defense way too many high-end guys to be playing like this so that's why i look at it and

05:28now i would lean more towards they got to find some guys that can just go out there and compete

05:33got to find some guys that can find a way to get out there and and make some of those

05:38changing plays because they don't have it right now so i don't know what a coaching change would
05:42really do it's going to be the same it's going to be the same chess pieces yeah right well sometimes

05:53this addressed even if you say okay well throughout the course of the offseason you did what you did but
06:00when you're seeing the this type of performance during training camp even before you get to the
06:07season you would think that there would be hey we're going to have to improve our personnel and
06:13we can't wait we can't wait four games in we can't wait to the bye week we can't wait to

06:17deadline because if you wait to the trade deadline it might be too late yeah but there also might be

08:55seems like from the very beginning that we've had a many core tenants about football drilled into our
09:01heads i can imagine especially for guys that have played at the highest heights and one of them
09:06is a defense returning the ball to the offense with a chance to win the game you know we've had
09:12a lot
09:12of talk about an undermanned crappy roster head scratching coaching moves brad holmes's personnel
09:20moves but if i'm not mistaken the lions offense had the ball three times in the final eight minutes
09:27of last night's game as a result of the defense turning carolina away i think two times late in that
09:34game
09:34the lions got the ball with over two minutes left to end the game and our you know veteran quarterback
09:41had another batted ball i think they must have been at least five or six over the course of the
09:47game
09:47and they didn't even get a first down so there's the notion that the lions offense has to be perfect
09:54is an unfair standard but it seems to me that if this defense is going to struggle
10:01and finally put the lions offense in an opportunity to win games against other defenses by the way that
10:08are also undermanned and they don't cash in then we're not going to look they're not going to win
10:13they're not going to go to the playoffs they're not going to win over half of their game so
10:16it's unfair but last night's game was winnable and i put a lot of that loss on the shoulders of

10:23offense that didn't cash in on the opportunity they were given i don't disagree with you and i think
10:30those guys on the offense know that they have to start faster they they can't keep starting with
10:37empty possessions or just settling for field goals when you have a defense that is struggling when you
10:43have a defense that needs a momentum boost offense you can't go out there and lay an egg in the
10:49you
10:49know early in the game like it or even late in the game i mean his point they had two
10:53turnover on
10:54downs in the fourth quarter and a punt in the fourth quarter right and it's it's so the third to
10:58last
10:58possession it's fourth and 10 it doesn't look great you're down two scores but you can't go
11:06from fourth and 10 to fourth and 15 by a delay a game you can't go from fourth and 15
11:10to fourth and
11:1020 because you can't hold your water on the offensive line now all of a sudden you're looking
11:15at it going well it's you know should they just kick the field goal well there's still two touchdowns
11:19down right not just you know a couple of field goals and then the second to last position they do
11:24go
11:25on a nice drive they put a touchdown in the end zone and they draw within one score one touchdown
11:31but the last time they hold on to the ball it was the sack obviously hurt uh coming out of
11:37the two
11:37minute warning and then it's the incompletion and then you just you know you're sitting there at fourth
11:42and 13 they don't convert and the game is over like yeah you would expect that you would at least
11:47pick
11:47up a few first downs at that point and be able to take some shots at the end zone with
11:52this offense
11:53i thought that that that should be a minimum you can't go four and out yeah and you got to
11:58make the
