00:11Brazil is entering the final hours ahead of the October 4th general election we now go live to
00:17our special envoy Belen de los Santos in Rio de Janeiro hello Belen welcome to from the south
00:25hello Pablo exactly we are in those final hours everyone has been saying so the final days are
00:32critical to define this first round of elections that will take place tomorrow October 4th all
00:38across the nation from 8 a.m to 5 p.m we will have the polling stations open and it
00:45will define
00:46not only what happens in this country but also in the region once again let's recall we are
00:52seeing a very important race that appears to be a very close race as well last surveys have put
00:59president Lula da Silva from the central left coalition from the workers party at around
01:0645 percentage points they need to get to 50 to round up this election in this first round and
01:14Flavia Bolsonaro son of Jair Bolsonaro now in prison for a coup attempt in 2022 he is at around 40
01:23% so
01:24five points below Lula da Silva and so neither of them for what we know so far would make it
01:32to just
01:33win this first round so we would be heading into a runoff if this stays the same but we still
01:39need to
01:39know what really happens because you know that a lot of polls have not really hit the mark in
01:45the last elections across Latin America so we are really pending to see what happens tomorrow and
01:53actually one of the most important surveys that a folio that every analyst have been has been following
01:59we have been commenting on those numbers throughout the week the last poll is coming out tonight so we
02:05will have the updated numbers in a couple of hours the only and last ones before the election of
02:14tomorrow so everything is set to see what is happening as you were saying there were the final
02:21caravans and acts campaign is actually continuing until 10 p.m. tonight so really there is activities and
02:29campaigning up to the very last moment and this will be crucial because candidates are focusing
02:36their efforts on the main districts as we were saying with the closing rallies for example yesterday
02:42in Rio de Janeiro where we are right now then in Sao Paulo with a massive turnout for Lula da
02:49Silva in
02:50the center of the city the Paulista Avenue and also Flavia Bolsonaro was raiding around in a motorcade
02:58throughout the state as well we are seeing Sao Paulo being as usual one of the main states same for
03:04Minas Gerais that is famously known for being one of those states that for decades now has always
03:12whichever candidate Minas is leaning into turns to be the winner of this election we'll need to see if
03:20this is the case for this election as well so tomorrow a very important day maybe not definitive
03:26but we will have a major scene for what is coming in Brazil and also what is coming in the
03:32region let's
03:33recall that maybe this is the one of the elections that has really gotten around to have this regional
03:41aspect with a lot of people and analysts pointing to the future of the region itself also linked to
03:50what happens in Brazil when we see two very different models particularly in pertaining to their
03:58willingness to strengthen regional unity or their willingness to align themselves to US and their
04:06objectives for the region of course we're talking about a more sovereign Latin American project on the
04:13side of president Lula da Silva he has led for years those coalitions particularly in in a moment in
04:22which the progressive wave in Latin America was very important very strong and he continues to be
04:28one of the key leaders in that aspect and of course we know that the far right in this case
04:34led by
04:35Bolsonaro San Flavio Bolsonaro is actually in the face of aligning Brazil with the US interest at as we have
04:45seen happen in other countries for example
04:48Malay in Argentina and more recent projects as in Colombia in Ecuador as well so whatever happens in Brazil really
04:56will show us what's going to happen in the region for the next years
05:01thinking about one of the most important economies for the entire global south
05:05exactly we will see what happen tomorrow in the region in this electoral process
05:12thank you Belen for the latest update in this electoral process that is ours ahead of the starting
