00:00Today is a milestone moment in the police investigation into the tragedy that was the
00:03Grenfell Tower fire and devastating loss of 72 lives.
00:07The Met has now submitted all files to the Crown Prosecution Service to allow them to
00:11make charging decisions.
00:12Our dedicated team of 220 police investigators has worked incredibly hard to honour our commitment
00:17to the bereaved, residents and survivors and to all those affected so deeply by this fire
00:22to meet this timescale.
00:24The files we have submitted asked the CPS to consider charges against 20 companies or
00:29organisations and 54 individuals.
00:32We are asking the Crown Prosecution Service to consider charges for offences including
00:36corporate manslaughter, gross negligence manslaughter, health and safety offences, fraud and fraud
00:41related offences and misconduct in a public office.
00:45We appreciate it has taken nine years to get to this point and this has had a significant
00:48impact on all those waiting for answers.
00:51However, it has necessarily taken this long to ensure our investigation presents the very
00:54best possible evidence to the CPS for charging decisions.
00:58As we have said before, this is one of the most complex investigations ever undertaken by
01:02any UK law enforcement agency.
01:04The scale is truly enormous.
01:06The role of more than 15,000 individuals and 700 organisations involved in Grenfell Tower
01:11has been very closely examined as well as 165 million electronic files and physical
01:16evidence from the Tower to reach the point we are at today.
01:19The CPS have committed to making a decision on charges before the 10th anniversary of the
01:23fire and we will continue to support the victims and families and survivors throughout these
01:27next steps.
01:28Potential offences include corporate manslaughter, gross negligence, manslaughter, health and safety
01:33offences, fraud and fraud related offences as well as misconduct in public office.
01:38The CPS said charging decisions will be made before the 10th anniversary of the disaster, which
01:45falls on the 14th of June next year.
01:48A file of evidence on the government's housing department is among those passed to prosecutors
01:54by police investigating the fire.
01:57Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has confirmed the department she now heads up was notified in
02:042023 that it was under investigation.
02:08The Grenfell Tower Inquiry's final report, published in September of 2024, laid out in
02:15damning detail how those in positions of responsibility had not heeded or acted on warnings from earlier
02:22fires.
02:23It is said that by 2016, a year before the fire, the government was well aware of the risks of
02:29using combustible cladding panels and insulation, particularly in high-rise buildings, but failed
02:37to act on what it knew.
02:39A total of 14,700 statements have been taken and more than 27,000 exhibits, including cladding,
02:48insulation doors, windows and other parts of the building down to screws, nuts and bolts,
02:54are stored in a secure warehouse.
02:59The first thing in the 20th of June is a double-stated area and a lot of部分 for
02:59is located in the entire city of the inspector, which is not to be said.
03:00for the built-in site.
