00:02Chinese President Xi Jinping is wrapping up his visit to Washington today after a day of high-stakes talks with
00:08President Trump.
00:09Trump rolled out the red carpet for Xi again last night, literally, hosting a state dinner to mark the Chinese
00:15leader's first visit to Washington in more than a decade.
00:19And for all the tensions between the U.S. and China, Xi spent much of the visit talking about where
00:24the two countries can work together.
00:26He said China's push for what he calls the Great Rejuvenation and Trump's promise to make America great again can
00:33go hand in hand.
00:34But Xi also warned against what's known as the Thucydides Trap, the idea that a rising power challenging an established
00:41one can ultimately lead to war.
00:44Xi's point, the U.S. and China don't have to end up there.
00:48He made a similar argument when the two leaders met in Beijing back in May.
00:52Meanwhile, Trump kept things friendly.
00:55As the leaders of our two nations, President Xi and I both understand that we represent different systems, but the
01:03ties between our people endure and we've never gotten along better.
01:08Since the first trade ships from New York left the harbor to arrive on the banks of the Pearl River,
01:16Americans and Chinese have always exchanged goods, knowledge, customs and ideas.
01:21This has been the foundation of commerce and mutual respect between our countries.
01:27And together we can continue to build a relationship that promotes prosperity and security for future generations.
01:35Behind all that diplomacy, though, there are still some big disagreements.
01:39The two leaders talk trade, artificial intelligence and Taiwan, all areas where the U.S. and China remain deeply at
01:47odds.
01:47Xi said the two sides reached, quote, common understanding on many issues.
01:52Today, Xi and his wife are scheduled to join the President and First Lady for a private tea, then tour
01:57the National Archives before heading home to China.
