00:00My name's Bec Burgess from Langhorne Creek in South Australia and I'm incredibly proud to be
00:04nominated as a state finalist in the Australian Agricultural Awards Safety and Wellbeing category.
00:10I'm the Director of Bec Burgess Consulting and I work all across Australia in agriculture
00:15as an ag facilitator, program curator and farm business consultant. Basically my work is about
00:22bringing people together, creating conversations that matter and helping ag businesses and
00:27communities, make decisions and plan a way forward. One of the projects that I'm really proud of is the
00:34supporting others through tough times. The program was developed because agronomists, consultants and
00:39other ag professionals were coming to me asking about how to support their producers better and
00:45they wanted to be more confident about what to say or how to help. So the aim of this program
00:49was not
00:50to turn ag professionals into counsellors, it was about giving them some tools and skills that they
00:56could practically use to start a supportive conversation and connect someone with the
01:00right help. It was really important as part of this program that we worked together with
01:05wellbeing professionals. So with Steph Schmidt and Sarah Crosswaite and the support from GRDC,
01:12we were able to take this program from South Australia and deliver it across South Australia,
01:17Victoria and Tasmania. I love what I do and I'm really proud to be helping build a stronger,
01:22safer and more connected agricultural industry.
