00:00We now have six named storms in the Atlantic Basin as Faye developed well, well east of the United States
00:08over the weekend.
00:09And it got close to hurricane status, but didn't quite make it.
00:13It will continue to lose wind intensity as we go over the next couple of days here.
00:17But nonetheless, our sixth named storm.
00:19We're still running in the Atlantic Basin about a month to a month and a half below seasonal averages.
00:25Beginning on Tuesday, we should have 10 named storms.
00:28We should have four hurricanes, and of those four hurricanes, two should be major hurricanes.
00:32That's Category 3 or greater.
00:34That's winds, sustained winds of at least 111 miles per hour.
00:38Now, we're closing in on the latest occurrence of the first hurricane in over 100 years.
00:43September 21st, 1941.
00:46That was when the first hurricane formed in 1941.
00:51Now, the entire record, pre-satellite era, October 8th of 1905.
00:55No known hurricanes, known in 1907 and 1914.
01:00Moving forward, the wave coming off Africa, we're not too worried about for a pathway to the United States.
01:06But we're going to keep an eye on that coastal storm late this week off New England.
01:10That could have both tropical and non-tropical characteristics.
01:13But other than that, the MDR between the islands and Africa, where we see most of the development this time
01:22of year, shut down.
