Air quality in Cebu ‘acutely unhealthy’

Metro Cebu’s air quality almost reached emergency level early Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) peaking at 296 as haze from Indonesian wildfires continued to affect the region. The Environmental Management Bureau Central Visayas (EMB 7) recorded the peak reading at 1 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. The AQI remained in the ‘acutely unhealthy’ range of 201 to 300, just five points below the 301 threshold for the emergency classification. EMB 7 advised the public to limit outdoor exertion. People with heart or respiratory diseases should stay indoors and rest as much as possible.
