00:37So your opponent, his focus is Medicare for all,
00:42and he has a background in public health roles.
00:44So why should the voters, when they're going to the polls,
00:47vote for you, and what are you doing
00:52to make health care more affordable for families?
00:55Well, first of all, he says he's been a physician.
01:00He's not a physician.
01:02So that's really, really important.
01:03I'm not sure why he tells people he's a physician.
01:05He's not.
01:06Secondly, when you look at something like Medicare for all,
01:10seniors who have paid in since they've been 18 years old,
01:13remember, they pay in at 18 all the way to 65 before they get it.
01:17So they don't get an ounce of Medicare between 18 and 65.
01:22They're fundamentally throwing the system up.
01:25And now you get, when you pay in at 18, you get at 18.
01:29You can only imagine what that does to your quality of care.
01:31So you're losing all of that revenue for all of those years to pay for people.
01:39And it's about two and a half million people here in Michigan.
01:41So they're going to get less health care, less choice of their doctor.
01:47It's going to be more rationed.
01:49So in the same system that is just across the river in Michigan,
01:53if you get a health care or a cancer diagnosis,
01:56it's 27 weeks on average before you get treatment.
02:00If you're a breast cancer survivor, that could be a death sentence.
02:04Here in America, it's less than a month.
02:06And if it has some kind of urgency to it, you can actually even get it sooner.
02:11And so it doesn't really do what they're saying it's going to do.
02:15And Abdul, by his own words, says that this is going to get health care is a lot more expensive.
02:22Well, families are already paying a lot.
02:24Having your FICA tax go up as much as five times is not a solution for health care.
02:30We think we have a better plan to get the get it under control, get costs down, get better access,
02:36put your doctors back in charge.
02:37We think that's the answer.
02:38And so do you have any special considerations for out of work, ill,
02:42senior Michiganders and their health care costs?
02:44I mean, exactly what we have now.
02:46And so that system is designed for that.
02:48That's why you have Medicaid, where if you get into some trouble and something happens,
02:53you can go on to Medicaid to get your health care taken care of.
02:57I'm a big believer in federally qualified health centers,
03:01which can be a good alternative for primary care for people who don't have good access.
03:06We have several of those in Michigan.
03:09Michigan.
03:09I'd like to do a little more with that.
03:11And I'd like to use those, by the way, to recruit new doctors by having them serve in
03:15a federally qualified health center for a certain period of time to pay off their medical debt.
03:19I think that might be a good way for us to get more doctors.
03:22And by the way, nurses as well, more nurses as well in the system.
03:25Get them trained.
03:26Now get them out in the regular health care system.
03:28Remember, the more nurses, the more doctors that we have out there, the better access that
03:34you're going to have.
03:35Now, more on affordability.
03:36Michiganders are paying around $5 at the pump and other prices have been high, maybe due
03:41to tariffs.
03:42So you've suggested spending the state and federal gas tax to alleviate some of that pressure.
03:46Yes.
03:47Do you think that more needs to be done than just the gas tax?
03:50I know that in Maine, Senator like Susan Collins has advocated for some exemptions on Canadian
03:55tariffs.
03:56Well, if it's a tariff that's bad for Michigan, I'm going to be against it.
04:01And if it's a tariff that's good for Michigan, I'm going to be for it.
04:04And so we have seen reshoring happen here in manufacturing.
04:08We're bringing the Chevy Silverado.
04:11It's coming from Texas back to Michigan.
04:13That's huge for us.
04:14That's a plus.
04:15We saved the cherry industry in Michigan, was getting dumped on by a foreign country.
04:20Turkey, of all places, was dumping cherries into the market where it was jeopardized.
04:25We're jeopardizing our cherry farmers.
04:27That tariff has been really, really important.
04:29Sugar beets, really, really important.
04:30Some of the smaller manufacturing are really, really important.
04:32So what I will do is look at all of those tariffs and say, this one is bad for Michigan.
04:38It hurts us.
04:39I'm going to go to the president and work to get rid of it.
04:41Here's the difference.
04:43I will go back to work with the president on tariffs that are working and work with the
04:47president on tariffs that are not working.
04:50You know, my opponent, all he wants to do is fight with Trump.
04:53You know, as he says, he wants to fight him or cage match him or whatever his new violent,
04:59aggressive rhetoric is, because he uses a lot of it.
05:02But that will not solve a problem here in Michigan.
05:06Our job is to make sure that what's working, save these jobs, build on manufacturing.
05:12Let's go after the tariffs that aren't helping to do that.
05:15And one last question.
05:16So former Vice President Kamala Harris is set to come here next week.
05:19And you joined Vice President Vance on stage last month.
05:23The president also issued that video endorsement last night.
05:25Why do you think there's so much national attention on this race?
05:28And do you anticipate President Trump coming here before the election?
05:33I'm not sure about that, but I will tell you why there's interest.
05:36This guy is the most radical, extreme candidate in the country, supported by Democrat Socialists
05:42of America.
05:43They're importing people into the state.
05:46The Democrat Socialists of America want to plant their flag in Michigan.
05:49And say this is our first big statewide win.
05:52That's why people are interested.
05:55And it's created a rift.
05:56I mean, we have this is why our Democrats for Rogers is growing bigger than we imagined.
06:02Matter of fact, we're already out of the signs that we ordered.
06:05We had to order another batch of Democrats for Rogers because they're not they don't believe
06:10that the Democrat Party should slide into this Democrat Socialist big government socialism
06:16solution to all your problems taking a lot of money away.
06:19Less opportunity.
06:20No upward mobility.
06:21There's Democrats who still believe all of those things can happen, but it can't happen
