00:00Star Wars XCOM is such a no-duh combo that somebody really ought to have tried it before now,
00:05but Zero Company really blew my expectations out of the water.
00:08Maybe the biggest criticism you could levy at it is that it plays too safe on the tactics side,
00:13but that still leaves you with superb, genre-leading combat.
00:16A lot of the senior people on the project were former XCOM devs at Firaxis.
00:20Honestly, the fact that Midnight Suns didn't sell too well may also help explain Bit Reactor's relative conservatism here.
00:26But the studio swung for the fences on presentation.
00:28Zero Company isn't just pretty, it feels lavishly, expensively Star Wars in its attention to detail.
00:34The world is really lived in and tactile in a similar way to Jedi Survivor.
00:38One of Zero Company's secret ingredients is that you explore in third-person action game mode outside of combat,
00:43and I found that simple perspective shift really helped bring the worlds alive.
00:47Also, the story is just stupid, crazy good.
00:50No spoilers, but I thought I knew what Bit Reactor was up to, then it took things off the rails
00:54in the back half.
00:55And that's all without sacrificing on the hardcore PC tactics game Crunch.
00:59This is just one of the best games of 2026.
