00:00All right. So Tanner, I don't, do we have an offensive line problem or not? I can't tell
00:08you that after one game. I can't. I didn't think the offensive line did a bad job at all. You
00:14know,
00:14some of the pressure rates that you're talking about, and it's interesting because you can find
00:19any kind of data post game that you want to find out there. There are different evaluation systems
00:26for all of these advanced services. You guys send me some of this stuff. It shows up in my timeline
00:32all the time. Watch the game. You've watched football forever, not experts by any stretch
00:40of the imagination. Use that data as a tool. Don't use it as definitive. That's what it is.
00:48You know, the pro football focus grades over the years, we talked about that. There were
00:54limitations at times in the way they graded players. They didn't know what the play call
00:59was. They didn't know what the responsibility of the player on any given play call was. Now
01:04they got better as the years went on, but I remember in the early days, Cooley would look
01:09at their grades and say, this is just wrong. Like it's not even close. I mean, I see the grades.
01:17I see how the team graded the players, but it got better. And we've had Nick Ackridge on the show
01:24a
01:24lot. Nick's really, really sharp. And he even admits some of the, you know, some of the flaws
01:30in grading, but says they've gotten better in a lot of areas, sort of understanding if a play call is
01:35this, these are the responsibilities of the offensive linemen. These are the responsibilities
01:40of the wide receivers, et cetera. You know, if you're grading a, an offensive lineman from a blocking
01:46standpoint on a run play. Anyway, you guys send me a lot of stuff. It shows up in my timeline.
01:52I'm not a big, you know, consumer of a lot of it. Um, because what I found is you can
01:59find a high
02:00pressure rate for Philadelphia and Sunday's game in one advanced evaluation. And in another, it was
02:07just an okay pressure rate. You watched the game, Tanner. I watched the game. Did you think there was
02:15an offensive line problem in that game? Did you think that Jaden was under siege, that he was under
02:22duress on pass plays? Did you think that every run play got stuffed at the line of scrimmage or behind
02:29the line of scrimmage? Because I didn't feel that way watching the game. I felt like for the most part,
02:36the offensive line held up against, we think, you know, every year's a new year, but a lot of the
02:43same players, the same defensive coordinator, you know, that there's a better chance than not
02:49that Philly's defense is going to be pretty good because it has been, and there hasn't been a lot
02:55of turnover. Actually, there've been additions, although one of their best additions or their
03:00number one addition didn't actually play on Sunday. Um, but I don't mind an average yards per carry of
03:094.1 per. There wasn't a lot of hit in the backfields hit at the line of scrimmage. Um, now
03:17there wasn't
03:18a lot of runs, you know, beyond the line of scrimmage before contact. Jaden got sacked one
03:23time and it was a sack in which he made it back nearly to the line of scrimmage. Was he
03:28hurried?
03:29There were a few times he was hurried and there were a few times and many times nobody was open
03:34and he had time before then he was pressured out of the pocket. And I thought he did a very,
03:40very good job of managing the game and not forcing anything. He had of his 16 incompletions,
03:48six to seven were pure throwaways. So as to not force something or to not take a sack,
03:56or there wasn't really any ability to run on the play. I know that you get a lot of people
04:05that are
04:06literally sort of on their knees bowing to a lot of these advanced numbers. And I'm not saying that
04:13they're wrong at all. I'm just saying it's a piece of information. It's one data point that you can use.
04:20I'm not saying don't use it. I look at this stuff, but it's not all consistent across the board.
04:26And you watch the game, Tanner. You watch the game. All right. And if you've been watching football
04:33for a while, you have a sense, you don't really know what's going on, but you have a sense as
04:38to
04:38whether or not an offensive line was bad in a game. I didn't think that at all. So after one
04:46week,
04:46do I think that we have an offensive line problem? No, but I might change my mind after Sunday
04:55or after another couple of weeks, we got to see it. You know, it's a first time coordinator,
05:02first time offense, first time play caller. We are missing our best offensive lineman from this team.
05:08That's the big blow to the season before the season started. Not that Nick Allegretti was a horrible
05:14center that they were going to start. You didn't know he was a horrible center. You'd never seen
05:18him play center because he only did it one game, maybe two game and a half. They actually believe
05:25in him. We'll see. I'm not going to judge him after one game. Did I, did I think Allegretti had
05:30a great
05:30game? I don't, but their grading on offensive lineman is going to be a lot better than ours.
05:36We know that there was one specific play in which he didn't get it done, but the defender made a
05:44great
05:44play as well. Uh, but is he going to be a terrible center? I can't say that at this point
05:52after one
05:53regular season game, I certainly couldn't say it as some of you did before the season started. Do I
05:59think it was plan a Nick Allegretti? No, I don't. I think Tyler Linderbaum was probably plan a. And
06:07then the money got out of control. He chose Vegas. But I think that when they let Tyler Biotis go,
06:13they felt like if they didn't get Linderbaum or there wasn't another center available, they felt good
06:19about Allegretti as somebody who would at least match the Tyler Biotis production. And they felt,
06:25and so did the O-line room. I can tell you this for sure. The O-line room felt like
06:31Nick Allegretti
06:32was going to be good and that he will be good and that he is smart and an outstanding communicator
06:40at the line of scrimmage. Get the snap up a little bit on shotgun snaps, maybe, um, you know,
06:48big two point conversion. Let's not let, you know, a really good player, uh, disrupt and, and basically
06:54kill a play, uh, that was the play of the game. As it turns out, you know, there are lots
06:59of plays in
06:59a game, but when it's the last play and it means that you're not going to be able to play
07:03any more
07:04plays, it's the most important play. But no, I can't say Tanner that we've got an offensive line
07:10problem. I thought the offensive line did a pretty good job. That's what my eyes told me watching the
07:17game. My eyes told me that they could have probably been a little bit better in the run game, but
07:21overall, the pass protection was pretty decent. The issue was that the receivers weren't getting
07:28open through the first two and a half, three quarters, almost three and a half quarters of
07:33the game or two and a half quarters of the game up until the late third quarter and into the
07:38fourth
07:38quarter. You got to have the ability to get open so that Jaden can throw them the ball and it
07:46can be
07:46completed and you can stay on the field offensively, which they started to do in the fourth quarter.
07:51Some of that could have been just, you know, that game had a lot of possessions in it. You know,
07:56they're going to play a team Sunday that literally the Cowboys against the Giants had six real
08:02possessions in the game. Six. That is about as low as you can go possession count. They only had
08:12two possessions in the second half. They scored touchdowns on both, but they only had two because
08:18their defense could not get off the field. Uh, they, I can guarantee you this in Dallas where
08:26defense, defense, defense was the entire off season conversation. They hired a new defensive
08:32coordinator. They added new players. They drafted two defensive players in the first round of the draft
08:39and all they thought going into this season was similar to what we think, which is, Hey man,
08:47if the defense can just be, you know, top half of the league, we should be a playoff team.
08:53Now they have better skill position players than we do on offense. They've got a better running back
08:58than we have in Javante Williams. They have two receivers, both better than any receiver that we have
09:05in Lamb and Pickens, who by the way, both dropped passes, big time passes. Pickens dropped a touchdown
09:11pass near the end of the first half. It was a killer play for the Cowboys as it turns out,
09:16because instead of going into halftime with potentially a lead, they went in down a touchdown
09:23and then the Giants scored on the first possession of the second half to take a two score lead. Man,
09:30the NFL is a fine, fine line game. Pickens drops a touchdown pass. Cowboys likely up at the break
09:37and instead the Giants are up at the break and they get the ball to start the second half.
09:43But anyway, Washington and Philadelphia played a game in which each team had 11 possessions.
09:50Now it'll say 12 on your stat sheet if you're looking, but Washington killed their last drive
09:56with one play and let the clock run out and Philadelphia's last drive taking knees. That
10:02actually counts in the stats, the team stats as a drive. They didn't each have 12 real drives. They
10:08had 11 real drives and they were going back and forth. A lot of punts in the game. You had
10:1713 punts
10:18in the football game. There weren't any turnovers in the game. This was a possession by possession
10:25that ended in score or punt or in the case of the kneel downs at the end of the half
10:32and at the end
10:32of the game. I don't think we've got an offensive line problem. Check in with me though in a few
10:37weeks
10:38because definitely we need, I need more information. I will say this after one week. All right. If we're
10:47buying and selling at this point on our team after one real game, because anything that happened other
10:54than the Tunsil injury and the Diggs acquisition over the summer, I have completely now basically
10:59banished from my mind. Any reports, any tweets, anything I watched in a preseason game, it's not
11:07even a thought anymore. It's so irrelevant. Do you know that the Cowboys beat reporters all thought
11:16going into the opener that their defense had looked so good in the joint practices? It had been so well
11:24buttoned up, the communication, everything. And then in the opener when they played a real game and they
11:29actually played against real players, they played and the other team played its real players. The
11:34communication was, I mean, I've been reading this as I'm getting ready for Sunday's game. Just absolutely,
11:42it's doom and gloom on the defense again. After one game, after a training camp in which all of them
11:48were saying this defense is going to be a problem for the division and the league because it is much
11:54improved and it's much buttoned up coaching wise with Christian Parker, their new defensive coordinator.
12:00Yeah. Week one, they got completely run over by the Giants, completely run over, but it's just one game.
