00:00that yeah how would you kind of describe your design philosophy uh would you would you say that
00:05most of these golf courses in the states have a little bit less of whether it's you know wide
00:10enough fairways with not necessarily playing to the proper angles that i there's there's a couple
00:16courses that come to mind uh where where pete died seemed like he did it perfectly just like
00:21the more that you cut off the better angle that you have and that spoke so true to what you
00:25just
00:25said moments ago so is that is that what you're always kind of looking for in a design or is
00:30it
00:30taking every hole and shot shot by shot to kind of figure out what is exactly what you want to
00:36change
00:36in that hole uh i would say that is a consistent theme and when we don't some people because we're
00:43from the sand belt i think some sort of think that we that we want to go and build a
00:48sand belt course
00:49you know in chicago or you know wherever salt lake city or um but we actually one of the things
00:56we
00:56really like is building a different style everywhere we go so we really try and take inspiration from
01:02the site in question you know there's different vegetation and different contour and different
01:06scale and so we're always changing you know the bunker style and um types vegetation and rough and
01:13some of the aesthetics but consistent with pretty much every course we will ever do is um is width
01:21is using short grass both from a strategic point of view but also an aesthetic point of view
01:27um we love that i mean to us that is the the perfect golf hole is one where you
01:32you know for you smiley you kind of you have to bring in the chance that you're going to make
01:36a
01:36bogey in order to make a birdie you know you have to take on some element of risk you know
01:42to try
01:42and force a birdie or an eagle or whatever and you can only do that with wide golf courses you
01:48can't really do it with narrow fairways you know they're 25 yard wide fairways they just become too
01:54basic and you just kind of run out of places to like put strategic bunkers is that kind of your
01:59line of thinking there well and just because they're just a test of execution like you're never
02:03really thinking about oh is it a four iron today or a three iron or maybe i'll play over this
02:07side to
02:07get the better angle or it just you just pull driver you pull the same club every day
02:12hit it as far as you can and hope that you hit the fairway whereas suddenly if you've got 50
02:16yards or
02:1760 yards a really interesting green and a and some bunkers well positioned there might be
02:22you know i think those best the best holes are almost confusing from the tee you know it's a
02:27confusing decision it's like you know the wind's off the right today i'm not playing well you know
02:32but i really need a bird you know it's like you got four or five clubs in your hand
02:36um and that to us is what makes really interesting golf um so they're the sort of holes we like
02:41to
02:41build
