07:11And he is brought down by Bolton, not on the edge, but a five-yard game for Troy, who touches
07:18the ball for the first time.
07:19A guy who played collegiately with Bo Nix at Oregon and had 65 catches a year ago for over 700
07:27yards and six touchdowns.
07:28But, man, he has slid down the pecking order with the addition of Waddle and the growth of Pat Bryant.
07:34Yeah, he was pretty much the number two guy as far as receptions last year, but he'll slide down a
07:39little bit.
07:39But they're throwing the ball about a three-to-one ratio right now.
07:44I thought we'd see a little more of J.K. Dobbins.
07:48Here's Harvey out of the backfield.
07:50What a good job to keep his feet and turn that into a nice play and bring up third and
07:54short a gain of four.
07:56Legereus Snead, who's been a tackling machine, missed him early right here.
08:01This is really why they brought R.J. Harvey in last year, was to give him that element out of
08:09the backfield.
08:10And then he had to take on such a bigger role in this offense when J.K. Dobbins went down.
08:15I think he simply just wore down as the game went along.
08:18But this is what he does best.
08:22They're down and a long one.
08:34They'll just get it away and Nets has to go out to his right looking for help.
08:38Fourth down.
08:40Well, we'll see what they do, Joe.
08:42But I don't like the call.
08:44It's third and one, and you go empty, and you've got the best offensive line in football.
08:50And Adam Prentice, who they had in the lineup, they split him out all the way wide.
08:58But you can see once the ball snapped, it's passed the entire way.
09:01The only other thing they could do is, if they were going to run it, is on a quarterback draw.
09:05But I think I would have just lined up with that offensive line and let those guys move some people,
09:12especially right guard, Quinn Miners.
09:16That is the sixth straight punch between these two teams.
09:20Here's a beauty by Croshaw Butt.
09:23Into the end zone it goes.
09:2568 yards, but it's coming out to the 20.
09:28I mentioned Slugworth earlier.
09:30Here you go for you, really wonk aficionados.
09:342016-2024, Chiefs had the golden ticket to the AFC West.
09:38Nine straight divisional titles.
09:40Well, last season, the Chiefs got swept away and stuck watching as the Broncos won the division.
09:45And this season, all four teams hope they will find the AFC West's golden ticket,
09:52a division that has been dominated by the Chiefs and before them, the Broncos.
09:56Well, and we talked about it coming in, Joe, that, yeah, the Chiefs, they were the king of the hill.
10:02And Sean Payton came in, and over time, he started to gain some confidence.
10:06Last year, they were able to sweep them.
10:08But most people have picked Kansas City in the Chargers to finish one and two with Denver third.
10:13Here is a chance for Denver, as Walker could not make the catch on the throw.
10:19Broncos won it last year with a record of 14-3.
10:22Either one of these two teams has won the division every year since 2010.
10:27And it's second and 10.
10:29And you see Vance Joseph on the left.
10:32He's got to get back into the head coaching cycle.
10:35I know he's interviewed for five openings of the 10 that were there.
10:38But what a job he's done with Denver, former head coach of the Broncos.
10:42And I've always been impressed with the fact he came back to be the defensive coordinator
10:46with the organization that he was once the head coach at and got fired.
10:51Here is Walker trying to get set up with a little short pass, and it's broken up incomplete.
10:57And there's nothing downfield for Kansas City at all in this first half.
11:02This hasn't been much.
11:03As I mentioned, this defense by Vance Joseph, they just come after you every which way.
11:08But I think both these teams, Joe, benefited by the fact that their defensive coordinators
11:13did not get head coaching jobs.
11:15When you talk about Steve Spagnuolo and what he's done in Kansas City
11:18and the continuity that Andy Reid has enjoyed on that side of the ball
11:22and now Sean Payton with Vance Joseph.
11:25But I do believe if they have another year like they had last year and the year before,
11:29Vance Joseph won't be around next year in Denver.
11:32Bad snap.
11:34Catch made.
11:35Walker trying to dive for it.
11:38And it looks like he got it.
11:39He did.
11:41And on just the third completion of the half for Patrick Mahomes,
11:45after this bad snap, second one of the night for Humphrey,
11:50it's a first down Kansas City.
11:52Yeah, Mahomes, he just stays calm and he gets the ball.
11:54You got Jaday Barron, who was out there last year's first-round pick,
11:58who's had a hard time getting on the field
12:00because of the play Jaquan McMillan has had.
12:03He had an opportunity if he was able to make a play.
12:07Back to Walker.
12:08And after breaking tackles into the secondary, still rumbling and out of bounds at the 41 of Denver.
12:1628 yards for Kenneth Walker.
12:24This is the old Oklahoma drill.
12:26You got Alex Singleton, who he's going to try to come in there and fill the hole at linebacker.
12:31And Kenneth Walker, he just runs right through that tackle.
12:35And that's some of the explosiveness.
12:36It's one thing to have the homerun speed,
12:39but when you're able to make people miss and then show power the way Kenneth Walker did on that last
12:44play, it's been.
12:46Here's Emmett Johnson over the right side.
12:49He's able to get four.
12:50That 28-yard carry by Kenneth Walker, the first 20-yard play by either side tonight.
12:57And it's the ground game while Patrick Mahomes has gone three for 13 for 25 yards in this half.
13:06That has kept the Chiefs afloat.
13:09Well, you think to other years, Joe, and if Patrick Mahomes was having the first half the way that he
13:14was,
13:14I mean, it wouldn't look good at all.
13:17And here they are already over 100 yards rushing.
13:20And he doesn't have to do as much.
13:23Pass over the middle.
13:24That's tight end Noah Gray.
13:26And he stopped right at the marker.
13:34And that will bring up second down and less than one.
13:39Third down, rather.
13:41Third down and one.
13:43And Kenneth Walker checks back in.
13:51Right now, there doesn't appear to be any deception by Kansas City at all.
13:55They bring Walker in.
13:56You just expect Mahomes to hand it off.
13:58That's right.
14:00And can't ever have an answer to it.
14:03Three tight ends in the game for Kansas City.
14:05They do hand it.
14:06Walker, first down.
14:08Big hat.
14:09And his debut in Kansas City.
14:13Game of six on third and one.
14:15And that will bring us to the two-minute warning here in Kansas City.
14:19And it's the Chiefs doing it on the ground.
14:23There's the battle in the AFC West.
14:26Ingram a touchdown for Denver.
14:29Mahomes with a rushing touchdown for Kansas City.
14:32Chiefs on the move.
14:33Tied at seven.
14:38Coming up on the All-State Halftime.
14:39First-half takeaways.
14:42Boomer's fastest three minutes.
14:44Coming up in the half with Scott Van Pelt, Jason Kelsey, and Pat McAfee.
14:50On first down, Mahomes.
14:53Pass is complete.
14:55And a nine-and-a-half-yard pickup by Jake Bringingstuhl,
15:02who is a college free agent from Clemson, picked up a year ago.
15:06He's got to grab.
15:07And Alex Singleton in on the stop.
15:11It'll be second and one.
15:13And pretty methodical with the passing game.
15:15You look at what they've been able to do offensively.
15:18Kansas City, well over 50% run-to-pass ratio.
15:22I don't know when the last time is.
15:24We saw that from Kansas City.
15:25But typically over the years, as I mentioned, with Patrick Mahomes,
15:29they finish bottom of the third in run-pass ratio.
15:34And tonight, especially against this defense,
15:37being able to run the football the way they have,
15:39keep the game tight.
15:41Week one in the humidity that is here in Kansas City.
15:45This defense is going to be ready for halftime.
15:48They're going to be worn down.
15:50Denver caught their first timeout.
15:53Here's Worthy.
15:54He's fun guy.
15:56Kicks him up.
15:56For the first down.
15:58And timeout taken again.
16:03That's Denver with their second timeout.
16:07We talked briefly about Eric Bien-Ami coming back.
16:11They had big numbers.
16:14When Eric was here the first time around.
16:16He was here for five years, 2018 through 2022.
16:20He's bounced around since then.
16:22Matt Nagy on the three previous years.
16:24But this is not apples to apples.
16:26First of all, more years for Bien-Ami on the left.
16:28And then it's a change, big change in personnel.
16:32As you said earlier, Bien-Ami and Mahomes had a guy on the outside
16:36named Tyreek Hill who could blow the top off any defense in the league.
16:40No question.
16:41And it has changed.
16:42And I think bringing Bien-Ami in,
16:44he definitely brings a sense of urgency to this group.
16:47Here's Rice, his first catch.
16:49And Rasheed broke a tackle and gets a touchdown.
17:05Moss couldn't bring him down.
17:08And Rasheed Rice,
17:10a touchdown from 13 yards out.
17:33Butker makes it a seven-point game.
17:40And Rice, who's played just 12 games the previous two years
17:44because of injury and suspension,
17:47takes it in in the season opener.
17:49You were watching NFL kickoff presented by YouTube TV.
17:53They like it.
17:54So does this sold-out crowd.
17:57Another look at that last touchdown.
17:59And Riley Moss, he's in a perfect position to come up.
18:02He fails to make the tackle.
18:03See a lot of missed tackles here in week one.
18:06But Jonah Ellis, he comes in number 52
18:08and just throws a shoulder on him.
18:10Doesn't wrap him at all.
18:11He's the guy who's got to be able to clean that up.
18:14But nice job by Rasheed Rice.
18:16That's what he excels at is run after the catch.
18:18And the City Chiefs take the lead.
18:23Here is Harvey on the return.
18:26Makes a move.
18:26Broke a tackle and is spinning out to the 34-yard line,
18:31which is where the Broncos, down by seven,
18:35with one timeout, will go to work with their new play caller,
18:39Davis Webb, as we look at week one storylines.
18:42A lot of points.
18:44Would be the highest in week one since 1970.
18:48If we get more points here tonight,
18:50the Bears just went off against the Panthers.
18:52Jets and Giants both 1-0 for the first time since 2009.
18:57And we'll see the Giants a week from tonight
18:59out in Englewood against the Rams,
19:02who lost in Australia to the 49ers.
19:07That game was always going to be good,
19:09but it got a lot better.
19:12Knicks protected, pulls it down, and down he goes.
19:16R. Mason Thomas, the rookie.
19:21And a loss of five.
19:27Now, that's a three-man rush as well.
19:29As you look at the rookie, R. Mason Thomas, he just keeps going.
19:32You know, as he gets up the field, he does a nice job of knowing he got past Bo Nix
19:36on the pass rush.
19:37He peels off of it and then comes back and makes a play.
19:41And right after that play, the Chiefs and Andy Reid took their first time out.
19:46They love him.
19:48What do you pick of the draft?
19:51Second rounder from Oklahoma had 25 tackles for a loss last year, tied for third in the SEC.
19:59And he is part of that revamped look up front for the Kansas City Chiefs.
20:04125, 125, please.
20:07Off-season, he's the key.
20:08He's the real key to the success of this Kansas City defense.
20:11He, along with Mansoor Delane and Peter Woods,
20:15those three drafted rookies are going to determine,
20:20in large part, the success of this defense for the Kansas City Chiefs
20:25and how fast they can come around.
20:28Delane has been out since the first series of the game and his interception.
20:32Strong catch by Bryant.
20:34And a nice gain on second and 15 of 10.
20:41They bring up third and five.
20:43One timeout left for Denver and they hurried.
20:51Extra men on the rush.
20:55Backpedaling and incomplete.
20:57Fourth down.
20:58And it was Aloy Gilman who was coming on the blitz.
21:02That forced a quick throw.
21:05And with Sutton the target, it's fourth down.
21:07Well, this is the one-on-one look.
21:09This is where he had to go with the football.
21:10Noel Williams does an excellent job.
21:12Corlin Sutton, he's as good as there is in all of football winning
21:16versus one-on-one coverage.
21:18And that's exactly what he got.
21:19Kansas City came up, challenged across the board.
21:23They tried to flood the zone to the right side of Knicks.
21:25He went to the right receiver.
21:28And Corlin typically will win that.
21:30But Noel Williams does an outstanding job on third down,
21:33just giving him no breathing room.
21:36That's the third straight three and out for Denver.
21:40Chiefs with under a minute to go.
21:42A flag is down.
21:43Get the ball back.
21:45As Remigio hauls it in outside the 15.
21:5544-yard punt by Jeremy Croshaw.
22:00And Mahomes in the offense for the Chiefs.
22:02They go right back to work.
22:14During the kick, holding, receiving team number 22.
22:18We'll penalize half the distance to the goal from the end of the kick.
22:21It's first down.
22:23Jaden Kennedy is guilty of the hold.
22:27As we give you a look from our Sky Camp powered by Accenture.
22:32As we move the ball back to the nine.
22:35And we'll see how aggressive the Chiefs want to be here
22:38with two timeouts and 51 seconds left.
22:41Well, Denver obviously trying to get out of this
22:43without giving any more points.
22:45I think when they go in at halftime,
22:46Davis Webb and Sean Payton are going to have a conversation
22:48and they're going to lean on the running game more than they have.
22:51They've given the ball to run about five carries in the first half.
22:56It's been all on Bo Nix.
22:58There's catch by Kelsey of this half.
23:02And a game of six.
23:05Yeah, Kansas City.
23:06They're slow playing it here.
23:08You see Mahomes.
23:09He's looking to the sidelines,
23:10trying to see what Andy Reid wants to do.
23:14And they're just going to run this thing down
23:17unless they can pick up a chunk play here.
23:19They're going to run it there.
23:20It's a rookie.
23:20Hey, it's one.
23:22They're going to call it great.
23:25They're going to hand it off.
23:26The rookie Johnson runs into Zach Allen and gets stood up.
23:32And it looks like this is going to be a seven-point game
23:34at the half.
23:34Kansas City will get the ball to start the second half.
23:42Kind of a weird half.
23:45Chiefs will take it.
23:46They get their quarterback back.
23:48He has a touchdown run.
23:49He has a touchdown pass.
23:52Not a lot downfield.
23:54And Bo Nix in that Denver offense,
23:56they have a lot to talk about.
23:57One good drive.
23:58That's it.
24:00Let's go down to Lisa.
24:01Thank you, Joe.
24:02Andy, how have both Patrick and the offense,
24:04how have both of them looked so far tonight?
24:06Well, we've been up and down.
24:09So there were some good things.
24:10There were some things that were not very good.
24:12But we'll work through that and have a better second half.
24:14Khalil Benson has not allowed a pressure so far tonight.
24:17Just what has impressed you about the way the rookie is holding up?
24:21Yeah, don't put the jinx on him.
24:22He's working his tail off.
24:24He's a young guy, and things are going to happen.
24:26But he's working.
24:27Thank you, Coach.
24:29All right, Lisa, we're going to keep an eye on that.
24:31You're on the hook.
24:33But so far, Khalil Benson has done a fantastic job.
24:37It's a seven-point game.
24:39Chiefs ball to start the second half.
24:40Right now, All-State Halftime.
24:42It's coming your way.
24:43Next.
24:47This is the All-State Halftime.
24:55Welcome to the All-State Halftime.
24:58A seven-point lead for the home team as Patrick Mahomes is kind of slow to get started.
25:04Two for 12 and completes his last six.
25:06Right?
25:07The touchdown.
25:07They lead by seven.
25:08Pat McAfee.
25:09Jason Kelsey with me.
25:10Scott Van Pelt here at the half.
25:11Pat, I'm going to ask you about Kenneth Walker and the load he's toting in a minute.
25:14But first, your thoughts on Mahomes and how he looked as he got a little more comfortable
25:17after that touchdown run on the first drive for them.
25:20Well, I thought the touchdown run showed you a lot about how comfortable he is, right?
25:23You came in here wondering what kind of version of Pat Mahomes we were going to see.
25:25You know, what was he going to be playing like?
25:27Is he going to be the same scrambling around trying to make plays?
25:29And all of a sudden, he goes in there, scrambles for a touchdown.
25:32The play right before this, he scrambled, almost got a touchdown, and got called back.
25:36So, it doesn't appear like Pat Mahomes is changing up who he is.
25:39He's running around putting his body on the line.
25:41It doesn't look like he's coming back extra quick from any type of knee injury right there.
25:45Nine months of the day after, let's brush that dirt off the email that's about.
25:49But it's been Kenneth Walker, a guy we talked about, guys, on Countdown.
25:53I knew he'd be a feature, but 16 touches.
25:56Pat, are you surprised it's that heavy a load?
25:57Yeah, 16 touches, 105 scrimmage yards, 62 of his 89 rush yards come after contact.
26:02Obviously, he was a Super Bowl MVP.
26:04We saw him do his thing.
26:05Andy Reid, Eric Biennemi, Brett Beach, they wanted a bell cow, and they certainly got him.
26:10But Kenneth Walker got the ball, I think, the first six plays of the game, setting the tone.
26:15We're going to be a run team.
26:16We're going to be a physical team.
26:17Kenneth Walker has a sense of explosion and vision that the Chiefs haven't had in a long time, Jason.
26:23The offensive line is going to love walking for him.
26:25Oh, yeah.
26:25But he's going to get the ball a lot, it appears, if it first happens anything like the rest of
26:29the game.
26:30And they should keep beating him.
26:31They're playing the best fast-rushing defensive line in the NFL last year.
26:36The way you neutralize those guys is by running the football, right?
26:39Stay out of third and long, they're sticking to the plan, it's working right now.
26:43Keep with it.
26:43And on the opposite side, Bo Nix and Davis Webb, it started out very hot.
26:47I think they're trying to figure each other out right now as well.
26:49Jalen Waddell's all over the place.
26:50How will they continue to use him?
26:52The two backs are obviously explosive to make some plays.
26:55Second half is going to be a real mental joust, I think.
26:57I don't love the third and one call, M.E., I mean, come on.
27:00Neither did choice.
27:01Coach, we've got to put a back or a tight end somewhere attached over there.
27:04Yeah.
27:04But, yeah, he's figuring it out at that one great drive.
27:07Hopefully, they can put something together in the second half.
27:08Yeah, Nix picked on their first drive, the touchdown pass to Ingram.
27:12They've got him tied at that point.
27:13But it's now a seven-point lead for the home team.
27:15Chiefs do get the ball coming out of the locker room.
27:18I was curious to see they're a little bit conservative,
27:19backed up there against their own goal line.
27:22Given the defense that they're playing against,
27:23I guess we understand what that's about.
27:25Boomer's fastest three on the way.
27:27The KU band on the field here.
27:28You might hear a boo.
27:29This little KU Missouri thing.
27:30You know, they don't love each other.
27:31Oh, I've heard you're watching the All-State halftime.
27:35All-State.
27:37You're in good hands.
27:40Tonight's first half highlights are presented by Target.
27:44It's the end of week one, and we're ready.
27:47Ed Arrowhead.
27:48Mahomes.
27:49He's in.
27:50Touchdown.
27:51Sam Oldpatrick.
27:52Got a man.
27:53Ingram.
27:54Touchdown.
27:54Kicks.
27:55Reads it perfectly.
27:56Here's Rice.
27:57His first catch.
27:58A she.
27:59Book a tackle and gets a touchdown.
28:05At Target, all that's new and uniquely you is in the bag.
28:11First half is in the bag as we wrap up week one of the NFL season here in Kansas City.
28:16Chiefs on top, about to get the ball to start the second half.
28:21And on this humid, windy night in Kansas City,
28:23welcome you inside the broadcast booth, Joe and Troy.
28:26And, Troy, that was just a weird first half.
28:28It was, and I think if you came into this game and you said,
28:32hey, one team in the first half is only going to have five carries from their running backs,
28:35you would have thought, yeah, okay, Kansas City and Andy Reid,
28:38and they didn't run the ball like we thought they might.
28:40But instead, it's been Denver, and I think that's going to have to change.
28:45But good run back here by Remigio.
28:52And moments ago, Laura Rutledge caught up with Sean Payton.
28:57Thanks, Joe.
28:57So, Sean, what do you want to see out of Bo Nix in the second half?
29:00Well, I think the first thing I think we have to do is rush the ball a little bit more
29:03efficiently.
29:05That'll take some pressure off him.
29:06Right now, you know, we've been in kind of a pass mode.
29:09I think it's the opposite for Kansas City.
29:12They've been able to run the ball.
29:13I think that needs to switch a little in the second half.
29:16How's it been not calling plays for you?
29:18Ask me another half here.
29:20All right, we will.
29:21Thanks.
29:21All right, thanks, man.
29:22Joe.
29:23Yeah, Laura, it's a great last question.
29:26You know, for a guy who's made his name in this league in Sean Payton, to not be calling plays
29:32and to have his offense, with the exception of one drive, be totally shut down, it's got
29:37to be eaten at him over on the sideline.
29:38Well, I think even in that interview, Joe, I've known Sean a long time, and it just felt
29:43to me like he was biting his tongue a little bit.
29:45And that's why I said, going in at halftime, I'm sure that we're going to see a different
29:52approach than what we saw there in that first half from Denver.
29:58Holmes brings it down, takes off.
30:00Patrick, who has six straight completions after a two-for-twelve start, carries for
30:06two.
30:09And Talanoa, who Funga made that tackle, and it brings up a third down and long.
30:14Well, it started out a little bit slow, and then got into more of a rhythm, and yet he's
30:20not holding the ball.
30:21And it helps with the running game, of course, and the quick passing game.
30:25And then that's helped the left tackle.
30:27Khalil Benson, as we talked about, undrafted free agent, making his first start at left
30:31tackle.
30:32And he's been solid, hasn't been asked to do a whole lot because of the quickness of
30:38getting the ball out of his hands.
30:39Here's another quick throw, and Rice is short of first down yardage by a yard.
30:45Riley Moss is there, and that's going to bring up fourth down, and we'll see what Andy
30:50Reed wants to do.
30:52We mentioned he was aggressive last year doing it, and it looks like, at least for the
30:56moment, unless they're just going to use hard count, they're going to go for it.
31:00Yeah, this will be interesting, whether or not he actually will snap the ball or just
31:04try to draw him off sides.
31:07They bring in two extra offensive linemen, Norzad and Izudu, and also bring in Kairos Tonga,
31:14the defensive lineman.
31:16He's off to the left of Kenneth Walker.
31:19They snap it fast.
31:21Walker.
31:22Got it.
31:23Still going.
31:24Kenneth Walker.
31:27Still going.
31:30Touchdown, Kansas City on fourth and one.
31:3460 yards.
31:58Talk about Kenneth Walker being a home run hitter, borrowing that phrase from another
32:03another sport, there's the home run, and another missed tackle by Riley Moss, it led to a touchdown.
32:12In his Chiefs debut, as Buckner knocks it through, Mahomes loving it, but Kenneth Walker,
32:20they needed one, they got 60, and he's got 16 carries for 149 yards, and this touchdown.
32:29Welcome to Missouri, number nine.
32:33The Super Bowl MVP, Patrick Mahomes, is glad he's wearing red.
32:43The new Chief, Kenneth Walker, in this game, four for four on either third or fourth and
32:48one, and on that fourth and one, just went 60 yards for the score, and it's the biggest
32:52lead of the night for Kansas City, and the return, it's R.J. Harvey.
33:00Stumbles, stays up, good return, got across the 35, and they're going to mark him up near
33:08the 37, 34-yard return.
33:10We go back to the touchdown.
33:11Yeah, you take a look at it.
33:13Q. Robinson here, he's going to hit it, so if he's going to hit it, then that means Riley
33:17Moss, he's got to scrape and contain, and he gets caught looking a little bit.
33:22He's a little late to get out there, and then he is out leveraged, and he's just not
33:26able to bring down a good back, but what a difference this guy has already made for
33:35this offense, and the confidence that Andy Reid has in continuing to give him the ball
33:40and let him run.
33:42It has been a while.
33:44Not many times has Patrick Mahomes got to enjoy a run game the way that he has tonight.
33:49Here's Dobbins.
33:50He bounces.
33:51Big run for J.K.
33:52Dobbins, and finally a big play for this Denver offense, which started this drive with only
33:59113 yards of total offense through the half, and this one good for 17.
34:03Well, that's why I was surprised in the first half, Joe, that J.K.
34:07Dobbins had three carries.
34:08And last year, when you look at how productive he was before he got injured, right around
34:13week 11, they were averaging just under five yards a carry as a team in one of the top
34:19rushing offenses in all of football, and they didn't even allow him to break a sweat in
34:26that first half.
34:27Denver's second longest play of the game.
34:29The longest one is the 19-yard touchdown to Engram in the first half.
34:32The only points.
34:33They hand it right back to Dobbins.
34:36Or R.J. Harvey, rather.
34:40Now, that was Dobbins who carried it for four.
34:43Well, I'll tell you this, Joe, you go in to the locker room, and I think Sean Payton's
34:49interview said it all coming out at half.
34:52But I can promise you, there was a lot of conversation in there.
34:56The big guys up front were told that they were going to lean on the running game and let
35:00them come off the ball and try to impose their will.
35:05And Davis Webb was told the same thing.
35:08Second down and six.
35:09Dobbins stays in.
35:10Harvey checks out.
35:11Dobbins gets it.
35:12Got to find somewhere to go, and behind this outstanding offensive line, able to turn that into a positive
35:20game of three as Karloff, this makes the tackle, third down.
35:25Yeah, you look at it now, by running the football, now you get it to third and medium.
35:32And my guess is, is this is four down territory.
35:35We talked to Sean Payton about it, and he said he would let Davis Webb know when they were
35:42in four down territory, and I would imagine he's been told that already.
35:46Third down and two.
36:01Play clock expired.
36:03Wow.
36:05And so, Knicks was changing the play.
36:07To the snap, delay of game.
36:09Offense number 10.
36:11Five-yard penalty.
36:12Third down.
36:13Lost track of the play clock, and it expired to make it third and seven.
36:18Boy, that's.
36:19It just simply cannot happen.
36:32Kansas City defense has made four straight third down stops, and it got a little easier.
36:39Sure did.
36:39This becomes a passing down now, and it allows Spags to bring the pressure.
36:46Nobody better at disguising a blitz than Spagnolo.
36:51Widal can't hang on.
36:52And it's fourth down.
36:58What a good job by Bo Nix hanging in there under pressure.
37:02He throws right into the teeth of the blitz and gets it to his playmaker, and Waddle,
37:07and he's just not able to hang on to it.
37:08And this has been, when you think about all the great things Jalen Waddle can do,
37:14the negative is he has had problems with catching the football at times.
37:18He's been hindered with drops.
37:20And that was a costly one because that's a first down if he hangs on to it.
37:24Just the one catch for two yards on three targets.
37:28And Croshaw with Remedio deep.
37:33They try to pin the Chiefs back.
37:41Delay a game is the call.
37:42Delay a game.
37:43Offense number 16.
37:45Five-yard penalty.
37:47Fourth down.
37:53Gives Croshaw a little bit more room to work.
37:59Wind has died down a little bit.
38:00It was really windy before this game, blowing toward the Chiefs' sideline.
38:08It's helped with some of the humidity these players have dealt with here tonight.
38:13And over-end punt.
38:15Flag is down.
38:17And this ball goes into the end zone.
38:31And this is the indication is a call coming up against Kansas City.
38:48And that's Martin checking with Sean Payton to see what he wants to do.
38:59Illegal formation by Kansas City number 11 for covering the long snapper.
39:04It's a five-yard penalty Denver has elected to replay fourth down.
39:09That is the third special team's penalty on Kansas City.
39:13Jalen Royals is who they called it on, who ends up right over Mitchell for Boney.
39:21A long snapper for Denver.
39:24And Sean Payton was consulting with Darren Rizzi, who's in his 34th year coaching in the NFL,
39:30and he's going to be able to see whether they want to re-kick, and they do.
39:47This punt's a little bit shorter.
39:50And will check up.
39:53And tapped by Pat Bryant.
39:56They're going to mark it at 2.
39:59Good job by Croshaw with his second chance.
40:0242-yard punt.
40:04Kenneth Walker, what a night he's had.
40:06Chiefs with a ball of 14.
40:12Welcome back to NFL Kickoff, presented by YouTube TV.
40:19Chiefs ball.
40:20They move the ball from the 2 to the 3.
40:22That's where this drive will begin, with Kenneth Walker back to work.
40:26He's had the majority of his success running to Kansas City's left.
40:30They fake it to him.
40:32They're going to throw it.
40:33And a pick.
40:35Intercepted by Brandon Jones.
40:37Mahomes threw it right to him.
40:39And Jones is going to pick his way down inside the 10.
40:55Exactly what the Broncos needed from their defense, and that was a gift from Patrick Mahomes.
41:00It was a gift because of miscommunication with Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy.
41:04Worthy, it looks to me like he thought he was just clearing out the middle.
41:07Whereas Mahomes is thinking that he's going to run a dig route.
41:11And cross Brandon Jones' face, so he turns it loose.
41:16But Worthy has no idea the ball's even being thrown.
41:19You can see that Jones, he feels threatened with the middle.
41:23But he's able to get his eyes back on the quarterback and then makes a good play.
41:27A lot of times with that kind of speed, the middle safety would be so far out of there
41:30that a throw like that would just land on the ground.
41:34But a great heads-up play by Brandon Jones and just a terrible mistake
41:38with the miscommunication between those two.
41:45Here's a toss to Harvey running left.
41:49Not much well played by the Kansas City defense, and then a flag at the end of the play.
41:53Yeah, that came in a little late.
42:02Denver defense that had only 14 takeaways last year, despite how good they are.
42:07Holding offense number 14.
42:10Ten-yard penalty at the previous spot.
42:12First down.
42:14That's a couple of holding calls on wide receivers for the Broncos.
42:17This time it's Courtland Sutton, who is guilty of the hold,
42:20and that's going to move the ball back.
42:24Outside the 15.
42:32You know what, yeah, okay, it's on, it's on 13.
42:35Pat Bryant, he's been called a couple times now.
42:39He did correct it.
42:40Clay Martin corrected it.
42:43And he turned his mic on and said, correction, it was number 13, so you're right.
42:47That's number two on Bryant.
42:49And this sets up the ball first and goal from the 15.
42:53Yeah, that's a costly penalty.
43:04Nick slings it, completes down to the 10.
43:07And that is Courtland Sutton, who gets his first catch of the night.
43:14And while we focus on the guys on the field, we have to also focus on the guy on the
43:18sideline,
43:19Davis Webb, the 31-year-old, first-time play caller in the NFL,
43:23trying to come up with the right play here to tighten this game.
43:28Well, if he was ever going to dial something up that was effective, now would be the time.
43:33They can ill afford to come out of this without a touchdown.
43:44Dobbins in the backfield with Knicks, looking left, and now out to his right.
43:50Back to his left.
43:52Wins that foot race, and now just the ball comes out of his hand.
43:57Snead is there.
43:59And they're going to blow this play dead back at the 16.
44:04The ball or somebody's foot must have been out of bounds along the near sideline
44:09because while they were chasing the ball down the field,
44:13they blew it dead, and the ball is back near the 16-yard line.
44:17Let's take a look.
44:17The ball just slipped out of his hand.
44:19Just simply fell out of his hand as he rears back to try to throw it.
44:26And Snead, I believe, was out of bounds when he touched the ball.
44:30Yeah, 38 was out of bounds, and he touched the ball
44:32before he reestablished that the ball becomes dead by rule.
44:36Ruling on the play was a fumble.
44:38However, the Kansas City player was out of bounds when he touched the football.
44:42Denver will keep the ball at that spot.
44:46There's a break the other way as Knicks had the ball just slip out of his hand
44:50because that was Snead trying to gather it in
44:53and take it all the way back for a touchdown.
44:56Yeah, just a really fortunate break here for Denver that they get a chance.
45:03Right here, you see that his foot's out of bounds,
45:05and then he touches it in just a big break for Denver.
45:10And we talked about the humidity, Joe,
45:12and you've got to imagine those balls are coming back pretty slick.
45:17And that's what led to it dropping out of Bo Nix's hand.
