00:30and they do not cash in for more than a field goal try
00:34after the interception by Brandon Jones.
00:38Well, another poor snap that Bo Nix has to try to handle
00:42and I know, as I mentioned, it is so humid tonight
00:45that getting the ball, being able to grip it,
00:48it's hard on Luke Wattenberg, it's hard on Bo Nix,
00:51but the momentum shift having to settle for this field goal
00:55is a lot in the favor of the Kansas City Chiefs.
01:0031-yard try and Lutz knocks it through.
01:03They have first and goal from the five.
01:06And then went back to Davis Webb.
01:10His first night calling plays in the NFL.
01:13They had a chance, didn't cash in, get three,
01:17trailed by 11.
01:22In recognition of the 25th year
01:25since the September 11th terrorist attacks,
01:27the NFL family participated in volunteer events
01:30across the country to honor and remember
01:32those affected by that solemn day.
01:35To learn more about the nation's largest day
01:38of charitable service, visit 9-11-day.org.
01:49Broncos will kick it away.
01:51Chiefs lead by 11.
01:56And they hear.
01:58Right up the middle.
02:02Can't make it to the 35.
02:04We will check back in with the undrafted rookie left tackle.
02:09Time now for Designing Success, brought to you by Ethos.
02:12Well, anytime you have a rookie starting left tackle
02:14and you haven't talked much about him,
02:16that means he's done a really good job.
02:18And clearly the offensive line's done an outstanding job
02:21running the football, but the quick passing game,
02:23and they have allowed him a fair amount.
02:27Now you see Travis Kelsey.
02:28He'll come down.
02:28He'll give him a little chuck.
02:30He'll try to widen the outside rusher, Benito.
02:32But he has held up better than probably most people
02:36would have imagined coming into this game.
02:38A big part of that, of course, has been the success
02:40that they've had running the football.
02:42And Nick Benito, because of the quick passing game
02:45and the way they've run the ball,
02:47he's been a non-factor.
02:48They just have not been able to get him
02:50in real pass rushing down where Denver can come after him.
02:54Benito, who led this team in sacks last year
02:57as 27 and a half over the previous two seasons,
03:01has been shut down.
03:03Benson, again, no snaps at left tackle in college.
03:07Yeah.
03:07And you start thinking, do you need maybe Kingsley Sue Mattia
03:12over there, even though he had struggled a couple years ago.
03:16It was a little pitch to Walker,
03:18who's tripped up from behind by Benito.
03:21And third down coming up.
03:23You know, then you weaken a couple of positions.
03:25And so, you know, there was a lot of moves made at the end
03:28to try to strengthen this offensive line.
03:30I know there was a four-way battle in camp at right tackle.
03:33Jalen Moore essentially got that job by default.
03:37They brought in some guys who cleared waivers
03:40or got picked up through waivers that brought in to Kansas City.
03:44And then with the injury to Simmons,
03:45all of a sudden you got an undrafted 3-8
03:47and starting the left tackle.
03:49And everything we talked about,
03:51how you benefit running the football,
03:53has been on display tonight.
03:55Bronco's coming after Mahomes.
03:57And he finds Kelsey.
03:58Travis Kelsey.
04:01Inside the 20.
04:04Down to the 5.
04:21And you see Jason Kelsey as he comes off.
04:24And the patience.
04:25He knows there's a blitz.
04:26Or, excuse me, Travis.
04:27You know there's a blitz.
04:28You know the ball's coming your way.
04:30You're one-on-one.
04:31And yet, you're patient enough to sell that route
04:35and then get the defender on his heels,
04:38come out of the break.
04:39Patrick Mahomes, perfect timing, great execution.
04:42Brings up first in and down and goal from the 4.
04:46Walker bottled up.
04:49Yeah, we got our colleague Jason Kelsey up
04:52watching with his sister-in-law and Donna.
04:56There's Jason, who is kind of blocked by that post.
04:59And Tom Cruise has been in there.
05:01And with that catch and run of 59 yards,
05:06Jason's brother Travis is now number two all-time
05:09on the tight end receiving list with regard to yardage
05:12as he passes Jason Witten.
05:14Yeah, and, you know, I've got a lot of respect for Jason Witten
05:18and what his career was all about
05:19and how he played the game.
05:21And Travis Kelsey is in that same category.
05:23And that's high praise, him breaking that record.
05:27Here's Mahomes out to his left.
05:30Nothing.
05:31And then gets thrown down out of bounds.
05:33No flag.
05:35Alex Singleton there to make the play.
05:38No gain.
05:39It's third and goal.
05:42And so the great Tony Gonzalez is still out in front.
05:45Jason Witten came in at number two all-time
05:49and now Travis Kelsey joins the former chief.
05:55Tony Gonzalez, top two spots on that list.
06:00I was quarterbacked in Dallas in 97.
06:02We were in the market for a tight end.
06:05Tony Gonzalez was in that draft.
06:07He went to Kansas City.
06:09We picked up David LaFleur.
06:10And what a career Tony Gonzalez had.
06:12Third down and goal.
06:14Mahomes took up.
06:15And down he goes.
06:16And so the Denver defense, after giving up that big catch and run
06:20to Travis Kelsey, clamps it down inside the 10.
06:24It was first and goal from the four.
06:27And now it's fourth down.
06:28The field goal unit comes on for Kansas City
06:31as Mahomes got stepped on there by Jalen Moore.
06:35Might have made it interesting had he not have gotten stepped on.
06:38He had a blocker in front of him and a little room to maneuver.
06:43That's a big stop.
06:45However, it happened by Denver.
06:49He had Kelsey open in the end zone but could not keep his feet.
06:54Buckner knocks it through from 28.
06:57And the two teams trade field goals after having first and goal.
07:02Travis Kelsey, number two on time, on that receiving yardage list among tight ends.
07:07Still able to electrify this crowd.
07:10And that luxury suite below us.
07:16The most interesting bit of the offseason is that you're finally married.
07:21It was just so magical, man.
07:23I wish it could have lasted even longer than it did.
07:25Me and Taylor are so thankful for everybody that showed up.
07:29But it was the biggest night of both of our lives.
07:35That big night at MSG.
07:37And when we talked to Travis this week,
07:40he talked about what Taylor's brought into his life as Butker kicks it.
07:45Jonah Coleman, the rookie running back, gets a chance to return it.
07:49They're looking for a spark.
07:50And he can only take it out back near the 30.
07:53And Lisa, Travis told us that Taylor's brought some structure to his life.
07:58Yeah, he said he's just really in a good place right now.
08:00His body feels good.
08:01He still feels explosive.
08:02He just told us he's excited to still be playing.
08:05And he said a lot of that has to do with Taylor.
08:07He said one of the best things that she's brought to his life is structure.
08:10That before they met, he was kind of like a feather in the wind.
08:13He said she's really changed that, brought a lot of structure,
08:16which has affected him in many ways,
08:18including, he said, making him want to be even better at what he does.
08:22And that, of course, is playing football.
08:25Yeah, and he's had, as it turns out, a big night.
08:29Two catches with 65 yards.
08:32Hope set up that field goal for Butker
08:35as Dobbins is trying to find his way to a little daylight.
08:39Picked up three.
08:47Oh, come on.
08:49Come on.
08:50Move it on, Ackles.
08:51There's that glamour shot that I saw scrolling by the screen.
08:55I'd talk about it, but I'd, like, sworn, been sworn to see.
08:59A bit of a James Bond look to you, right?
09:00I don't want to.
09:05Got him a blender for their wedding.
09:07I'll tell you, you talk about structure,
09:09somebody's trying to bring, or needs to bring some structure to this Denver offense.
09:14Yeah, I'll say.
09:14Second down and seven.
09:17Play action.
09:18Ingram breaks a tackle and gets a first down.
09:23The tackle was missed by Noel Williams, and once the big body of Evan Ingram got past him,
09:29he got eight and a first down, and maybe that starts something.
09:32You said something during the week, Troy, about there's one thing to calling plays,
09:36installing an offense, stalling a game plan, but within the game, once the game kicks off,
09:42getting into a rhythm offensively and how you call plays is such a nuanced science,
09:49and Peyton was great.
09:50We're still learning about Webb.
09:51It's all feel, and it separates the great ones from the good ones.
09:55Anyone can put together a game plan.
10:00Here's Dobbins.
10:03It's one thing to have a game plan and a set of plays and against these coverages,
10:07against these defensive fronts.
10:09Here's what we're going to do, but the nuance is, when do you call those plays,
10:13and how do you set them up?
10:15When do you take your shots?
10:17You know, when do you feel that the defensive coordinator is going to do something
10:21that you have an answer for?
10:22I mean, all those things, and I've been around some great ones,
10:25and Norb Turner and Ernie Zampezi, and I've been around some others
10:29that put up a game plan and didn't know when to call anything.
10:32So, right now, this has not been, this offense, for as talented as this group is,
10:40this has not been good at all.
10:42In fact, it's been pretty ugly.
10:44Play action, Knicks wide open is Franklin.
10:48And another big play, but a flag is down.
10:57And we'll get the call from Clay Martin.
10:59Pass interference.
11:01Offense number 11.
11:03Ten-yard penalty at the previous spot.
11:05Second down.
11:06So, that wipes away a 15-yard completion to Troy Franklin, and we'll see if he pushed off.
11:12Yeah, you come up and you get challenged.
11:13Noel Williams, who's had a heck of a night, and then there's the push-off.
11:17And as soon as you extend your arms, officials are right there, you're going to get called for that.
11:21So, what you have to do is you have to use speed.
11:24And Troy Franklin is fast enough to use his speed, get the defender running,
11:30and once you get a defender on the outside running, he's beat.
11:34That's how you beat him.
11:36You can talk about a lot of things with moves, but if you can threaten the defensive back with speed,
11:43he's beat.
11:46Second down and 16 as a result, backpedaling and skipped in to Bryant.
11:52And pressure up the middle against this good offensive line.
11:56Karloftis was in there.
11:58Bolton was in there.
12:00And Knicks couldn't step into that throw.
12:02Yeah, and then so what, you know, and then you've got Dobbins.
12:06He just totally whips on Bolton.
12:08And so you've got inside pressure right on top of you.
12:12You've got to do a better job of securing that.
12:16And after that offensive pass interference call, now it's third and 16.
12:21Following that incompletion, 35 seconds left in the quarter.
12:31Chiefs bail out there.
12:33They're showing Blitz balls out.
12:35And it's recovered by Kansas City and Chris Jones.
13:00Take a look at the pressure.
13:02I'm not sure what they were trying to do offensively here.
13:04Quinn Miners is going to be five yards down the field.
13:07And then you've got McGlinchey up here doing the same thing.
13:11And yet it's a drop back pass.
13:15Felix Andy D.K. Uzama is the one who was there to knock it out.
13:20He hit the arm of Knicks and the ball just slipped out.
13:24And Kansas City takes over at the Denver 34.
13:28Second Broncos turnover.
13:31The interception, now the fumble.
13:34Mahomes throws behind Kelsey.
13:40Joe, we talked about it as Patrick's a little bit slow getting off the ground.
13:44But we talked about it coming in.
13:47I mean, in today's game, the salary cap the way that it is,
13:50it is rare when you see a roster that is as loaded as this Denver Broncos roster is,
13:58as we take a look at that left D and he's looking for a flag.
14:03But six AP All-Pros last year on offense and defense, most in the NFL.
14:10This is a talented group.
14:11But, man, they have really struggled here in Kansas City.
14:15There's Warby hit in stride, and McMillan made a nice tackle.
14:21Third down coming up, and fourth quarter's coming up.
14:25After that gain of five.
14:27And in this 14-point game, Kansas City has the ball.
14:34We slide into quarter number four.
14:3924-10, Chiefs on top.
14:42You're watching NFL kickoff presented by YouTube TV.
14:46A look from our SkyCamp powered by Accenture.
14:51Glad they're with us here in 2026.
14:54Mahomes is back, has a 15-yard touchdown run, had that early.
15:00Thrown a touchdown, he's thrown a pick, been sacked once.
15:06Facing third down and five.
15:10Johnson.
15:11Broke a tackle and gets the first down, still going.
15:14The rookie, down inside the five.
15:18And a flag at the end.
15:29More missed tackles for the Denver Broncos on Emmitt Johnson's trip down inside the five.
15:36After the play was over, personal foul, unnecessary roughness.
15:39Defense number 49.
15:41After this is for the goal.
15:43First down.
15:46First, it's Singleton who can't bring him down, and then Ufunga.
15:51Joe, I really thought Vance Joseph would dial up some pressure there on that third down,
15:56simply because it was a 48-yard field goal from there.
15:59A field goal makes it a three-score game.
16:01I thought he would try to make it a deeper field goal,
16:04or maybe even knock him out of field goal range.
16:06Instead, he rushed four.
16:08And yet, as you mentioned, and as I said, around the league, tackling's been an issue.
16:14Fields is in the game.
16:15Here's a toss to Walker.
16:17Walker, he's got another.
16:28That'll go down as the second pass for a touchdown tonight from Patrick Mahomes.
16:33They brought Justin Fields, their backup quarterback, in.
16:36A little misdirection.
16:37And there's Kenneth Walker, yet again.
16:40Yeah, you know, I mentioned North Turner and Ernie Zampezi being good coordinators,
16:44but they never gave me these easy touchdown passes like this.
16:47And maybe they weren't so good.
16:49But that's pretty nice when you can just toss the ball like that to an outstanding back.
16:55And they've opened the floodgates on the Broncos now.
16:59That's the point banks in.
17:01Off the foot of Butker.
17:04So they bring in Fields.
17:06They snap it to Mahomes.
17:09He's in a three-point stance to start the play.
17:12Did they have to earn it?
17:14We didn't do that either.
17:15I couldn't get in a three-point stance.
17:19Well, Walker can get in the end zone.
17:21He's done it again.
17:22And the Chiefs are running it up on Denver.
17:32Now you understand where this music comes from.
17:35Back, back to the hood, I got...
17:36Boom, bop, beep, beep, beep.
17:38This finna put the hood on notice.
17:41From the dope game to the rap game.
17:45I got product coming.
17:46All we gotta do is move it.
17:49What's it gonna be?
17:50Let's cook.
17:51Hell yeah.
17:52FX is the drop, a snowfall saga.
17:55Now streaming on Hulu.
17:58Rated, everyone.
17:59It's the best time of year.
18:00Everyone's optimistic and full of hope.
18:02You know where to find me.
18:03Me?
18:03I've been busy building.
18:05Starting with my franchise QB.
18:06Money time, Vinci.
18:07There is so much football to look forward to.
18:09Mainly for me.
18:10Madden, NFL 27.
18:12It's your lead.

18:32That's right around when my doc recommended ZetBound,
18:35a breakthrough treatment for OSA.
18:38It even helped me drop some pounds.
18:41Not mad at that.

19:33Stream games live on your mobile device with NFL+.
19:41Tonight's aerial coverage is brought to you by Walt Disney World Resort.
19:47As we welcome you back to Kansas City.
19:50City all lit up.
19:52The color red.
19:53And those in this stadium rooting for the Chiefs are having a blast.
19:5721-point game as R.J. Harvey will return it.
20:01Looking for something to jumpstart his team.
20:04He can't get to the 30.
20:08Kansas City Chiefs plan to build a brand new stadium set to open in 2031.
20:13It will be in Kansas City, Kansas, about 25 miles west of here, about 15 miles outside of downtown KC.
20:23It'll be a $3 billion state-of-the-art stadium, fully enclosed, translucent roof,
20:28and an expected capacity of around 70,000 people.
20:32They've announced that the size, shape, and roof geometry will be designed to maximize crowd noise.
20:38They've got plenty of it here.
20:39Exciting times for the Chiefs as they have been.
20:42According to Hunt and the company, what a run they've been on.
20:45The opponents at home, they're thinking, really?
20:47I mean, this place is going to be louder than it already is there?
20:50Yeah, I'm kidding.
20:50This ball's tipped and incomplete.
20:52He was looking for Courtland Sutton, who has been shut down tonight.
20:57Same for Jalen Waddell.
20:58Between the two of them, their top two receivers have two catches for eight yards total.
21:03That is it.
21:04This offense has done nothing.
21:05They've done nothing.
21:06And a big question mark, I thought, coming into this game was Steve Spagnuolo's defense.
21:11You know, over the years, the last three years or so,
21:14he's had veteran players that have been in the scheme for a number of years,
21:17relying on a lot of young guys.
21:19And the secondary was rebuilt.
21:22Lost a great player in Trent McDuffie.
21:25And then the other starter, Jalen Watson.
21:28And yet, they've held up against this five-deep wide receiver pool.
21:34Knicks finds Sutton.
21:35Second catch, and he's brought down immediately.
21:38Good tackle there by Christian Fulton.
21:41Well, Spagnuolo has built a resume that's unlike anybody else's.
21:47Four times as a coordinator, he's won the Super Bowl.
21:52Three times with the Kansas City Chiefs.
21:55And one time with the New York Giants.
21:58And he's doing it again with a different cast.
22:01He does such a great job of giving the different looks.
22:04And even in talking with him, Joe, when he mentioned,
22:06hey, I love to be multiple.
22:08And anyone who has watched the Chiefs defense understands that.
22:11But I can only go as fast as my younger players can handle.
22:17And by all accounts, they're handling it all just fine.
22:22Meanwhile, Denver, they've turned the ball over a couple of times.
22:25They have to call a timeout here before a third down and five as it's getting desperate.
22:30Look, fair or not, this is Davis Webb's debut as a play caller.
22:35This is an offense that was fun to watch.
22:38You've got Bo Nix in year number three.
22:39You've got all these weapons on the outside.
22:42You've got a good running game.
22:43You've got a great offensive line.
22:44And tonight just has not been good.
22:46When I looked at this roster, I thought coming in, this offense should not only be better.
22:50They should be a top five offense.
22:51And pretty much all major categories at the end of the season.
22:55This is not what I was expecting.
22:58It doesn't get easier either, Joe.
23:00When you look at their schedule going forward, I mean, it is a gauntlet of teams that they have to
23:06start this season.
23:07And, man, week one always carries a little more weight.
23:12People react a little more to that opening game because you have had so much time to prepare.
23:18But this team, on a short week next week, has a ton to clean up.
23:24They're down in five.
23:28Mix, flush, just throws it into the ground.
23:32Chase by Bolton and Chris Jones.
23:36And just to look ahead, this is a Denver team that has the toughest schedule over the first six games.
23:43According to last year's records, they have Jacksonville and the Rams and at San Francisco, the Chargers, Seattle, before they
23:53get to Arizona.
23:54That is a tough run to start this season.
23:57And there are going to be a lot of answers that Sean Payton and company are going to be looking
24:03for over this next week.
24:04You said before they get there, Arizona may not be no day at the beach either.
24:09Yeah, that's right.
24:10After the way they won, we'll get through against the Chargers.
24:14Flag on the play.
24:15Remedio on the return.
24:20Able to get to the 26, 56-yard punt with a line drive and a 14-yard return and an
24:27early flag on that play.
24:35As Denver defense has to go back to work, and it has been a frustrating night for one of the
24:40best units across the NFL.
24:48During the kick, personal foul.
24:51Receiving team number 13 for blocking out of bounds.
24:55The penalty will be enforced half the distance to the goal from the end of the kick.
24:59First and 10.
25:00Timeout.
25:01That's the rookie receiver, Cyrus Allen, will take a break.
25:05Some of that frustration has shown tonight for this Denver defense.
25:10Lofty ambitions this year after 68 sacks as a team a year ago.
25:17Just one tonight.
25:21Welcome back to NFL kickoff presented by YouTube TV.
25:261325 left in this game.
25:29Chiefs take over after the penalty for the blocking of Cyrus Allen out of bounds.
25:35They started their sixth.
25:37They hand to Walker and he gets nothing.
25:40Jordan Turner in on the stop as we send it down to Laura.
25:44Well, Joe, we're seeing this Broncos defense struggle,
25:47and it is worth remembering that Jonathan Cooper is not with the Broncos right now
25:51as he's on the commissioner's exempt list
25:53after being arrested twice in a seven-day span in June on domestic violence charges.
25:58Cooper pled not guilty to a felony assault strangulation charge
26:02and three misdemeanors after incidents involving his girlfriend.
26:06His trial starts November 10th, and as you see there,
26:09he's responsible for a lot of the success that this defense has also had.
26:15Second down and nine here as Walker bends it back and adds to his big night.
26:21The other piece of that is that it will be a jury trial.
26:25So that is a legal process with regard to Jonathan Cooper
26:28that could drag on for some time.
26:32And who knows if or when he will come back to this defense.
26:36He can be in the facility, cannot practice with the team.
26:42As we heard from Vance Joseph during the week,
26:44he said, if we're going to lose anybody,
26:47the outside linebacker room is a room where we could survive something like that.
26:52But tonight, whether it's defense, offense, special teams, whatever,
26:57it has not been up to par.
27:02Walker drops immediately,
27:04and a strong play is made by Q. Robinson.
27:07Fourth round pick from Alabama last year.
27:11And this is a defense and a coordinator,
27:13and Vance Joseph excited to see what he can do.
27:17In large part in the place vacated by Jonathan Cooper
27:20as he gets more of a chance to play.
27:22Yeah, by all accounts, Q. Robinson had a good camp
27:24and expecting good things from him.
27:27With all due respect,
27:28I don't think Jonathan Cooper would have made a difference at all
27:30in this game because Nick Pedido hasn't been really a factor either
27:35because they have not been able to get the Chiefs in the long-down passing situations.
27:40And this running game with Kenneth Walker
27:42has been everything that they'd hoped to be.
27:44And it's continuing.
27:48Kenneth Walker gets eight.
27:50And just able to keep his balance and get extra yards.
27:54And we look at just some of the highlights,
27:57and Boyd Chiefs fans have got to be thrilled
27:59to sign into a three-year deal.
28:01Yeah, I'll tell you who's thrilled, Joe,
28:02and that's those five guys up front,
28:05especially Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith.
28:07They've been the starters at center and guard
28:10for the last, now, six years.
28:13And they haven't had many days like this
28:16where they get to just come off the ball
28:17and physically punish people.
28:19I've never known an offensive lineman, ever,
28:23that didn't prefer to run the football over passing the ball
28:26because they want to dish out some punishment.
28:29And they've gotten every opportunity to do that tonight.
28:32Here's Travis Kelsey for a first down.
28:34It's already a career high for Kenneth Walker
28:36in rush yards with 173.
28:41And look at the total yards
28:44and what Walker has done alone
28:46compared to this Broncos offense.
28:48And just so you know, including the playoffs,
28:50this is the first time for Patrick Mahomes
28:53in 78 home starts
28:54that the Chiefs have run for over 200 yards.
28:58Well, and I take what I said back, Joe,
29:01I do know one offensive lineman
29:02and it's the head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, Andy Reid.
29:06I mean, he was an offensive lineman at BYU.
29:09So, which is even more surprising about it all.
29:12Here's Emmitt Johnson flagged down on the play.
29:14Johnson is ridden out by Singleton.
29:22And it's a chop block call coming our way.
29:31The guys that we talked to said that the training camp
29:34for the Chiefs this year was next level hard.
29:38And that's with a head coach that's notorious
29:40for having hard training camps really working these guys.
29:44And Chris Jones said this was the toughest one he could remember.
29:47Personal foul.
29:47Chop block.
29:48Offense number 52 and 65.
29:5115-yard penalty.
29:52First down.
29:53Travis Kelsey, he echoed the same thing.
29:56And, you know, people at home, I guess,
29:59that like the Chiefs or love NFL football,
30:03whatever it might be,
30:04but haven't had an opportunity to be around Andy
30:08or really watch much of football,
30:09which is most people out there,
30:10you would think that I think the way he presents on television
30:14is different from how he is with his team
30:17and certainly at practice.
30:19I mean, he's an old-school coach,
30:20and they were saying they were going in full pads
30:23six days in a row.
30:24And I don't know what all the CBA entails.
30:27I mean, they didn't break any rules,
30:28but they pushed everything as far as they could
30:31as far as being physical
30:33and getting this team prepared.
30:35And we saw a similar thing
30:37from the New York Giants last night.
30:39Here's Emma Johnson.
30:40He's breaking tackles.
30:41The tackling for Denver's been horrible
30:43as Johnson is brought down eventually
30:46way downfield by Rosarieke.
30:50Malcolm Roach missed a tackle that time,
30:52and Vance Joseph,
30:53he's not going to want to watch this film.
30:55That was 19 yards on the catch and run.
30:58Yeah, this has been bad at every level.
31:03And the penalties as well.
31:06And, you know, you think back,
31:08they had first and goal from the five,
31:10and a holding penalty knocks them back.
31:12Had they been able to get a touchdown there,
31:14it's a seven-point game.
31:16And they're celebrating already
31:17on that Chiefs sideline.
31:22He's up second down and six.
31:27Again, it's Anna Johnson.
31:29This time he's bottled up.
31:30You know, I mentioned the New York Giants
31:31and their big win.
31:32Congratulations to them.
31:33And John Harbaugh in his first game
31:37as the head coach of the Giants.
31:38But, you know, he's old school as well.
31:41And they talked about how physical
31:43the New York Giants practiced.
31:45And, you know, someone once said to me
31:48that football is the only sport
31:49that you can't practice it the way you play it.
31:51And when you stop and think about it,
31:53it's right.
31:54You're not able to be as physical.
31:56But for those coaches
31:58that do kind of play into that,
32:01we've seen some of the results
32:04of having that mindset
32:05as opposed to always being concerned
32:07about just keeping guys healthy.
32:10The homes rocked up.
32:12And the second sack of the night
32:13for this Denver defense
32:15is Zach Allen gets his first.
32:18And speaking of the Giants
32:19and John Harbaugh,
32:20we'll see them next Monday night
32:23in Englewood, California.
32:25Giants and Rams at 8 Eastern
32:28on ESPN.
32:31Week two is always real interesting to me
32:33because when you have a big win like that,
32:36is there going to be any let up
32:37from the New York Giants this week in practice?
32:39And then on the other hand,
32:41for the Rams,
32:43you know, obviously a very disappointing loss
32:45for them.
32:46That was going to be a tough game
32:47traveling over to Australia
32:48against a good opponent in the 49ers.
32:51But to lose it the way that they did,
32:53there's going to be a lot of urgency
32:56from them as they go into week two.
33:01Here's Mims.
33:03Near sideline flag on the flag.
33:06Well,
33:07they put Myles Garrett on IR.
33:10He's going to undergo knee surgery.
33:11And Aaron Donald
33:13hasn't played
33:15since, what,
33:16a wild card game three years ago.
33:18So,
33:19and his status is undetermined.
33:21During the return,
33:22holding number six
33:23of the receiving team.
33:25Ten-yard penalty
33:25from the spot of the foul.
33:27It's first and ten.
33:28Timeout.
33:30So,
33:30to take a break,
33:31it's Denver's ball
33:33that will back them up.
33:35That is the Liberty Memorial
33:37Tower.
33:38And here in Kansas City,
33:40the Chiefs fans
33:40having all the fun tonight
33:42here in week one
33:42of 21.
33:47You know,
33:48you've got a 36-year-old
33:49tight end with the Chiefs
33:50named Kelsey,
33:51a 30-year-old quarterback
33:52now named Mahomes.
33:54Other than those two older guys,
33:56they've welcomed in new players
33:58and they have the youngest
33:5953-man roster
34:01in the NFL
34:02to begin the season.
34:03So,
34:03you've got the two older guys
34:04and you think,
34:04well,
34:05we've been watching
34:05these guys forever.
34:07But the other players
34:08around them
34:09make up the youngest roster
34:11in the NFL.
34:12So,
34:12there's been big turnover.
34:14But tonight,
34:14while it didn't look beautiful
34:16in the first half,
34:17it was good enough
34:17for a halftime lead.
34:18And it's looked a lot better
34:20here in the second half.
34:21It has.
34:21And there's no question
34:22that they would have loved
34:23to have kept Trent McDuffie.
34:24I mean,
34:25he's a great player.
34:26but they were almost
34:2660 million over the cap
34:28and they had to make
34:29some hard decisions
34:30and then they had to hit
34:30on the rookies
34:31and time will tell.
34:33But I think they got
34:34three really good
34:34defensive players.
34:35Nick's run for his life
34:37on fourth down and eight.
34:38Has to throw across his body
34:40and it's broken up
34:42with Franklin the target.
34:45And Noel Williams,
34:47a young corner
34:48in his second year
34:49back there defending
34:50and there was heavy pressure
34:51by George Karloftis
34:53chasing down Nick's.
34:54Well,
34:54you've got a 21-point lead
34:57and Steve Spagnuolo
34:59is just not going to
35:00take his foot off the gas.
35:01I mean,
35:01he brings seven people.
35:03He brings seven
35:04and he just comes after him
35:06with an all-out blitz
35:07and they're locked up
35:08in man
35:08and someone tried
35:10to make a play.
35:11And you got
35:13Bo Nick's running
35:14for his life.
35:17Just,
35:18they never from
35:20really the,
35:21you know,
35:22the interception
35:22on that opening drive
35:23offensively,
35:25they just never
35:26got into that
35:27offensive rhythm.
35:31And now appears
35:32to Emma Johnson.
35:34He's just pushing the pile.
35:36The rookie is 5'11",
35:38200,
35:38played at Nebraska,
35:39gets seven.
35:41Hit after crossing
35:43the line of scrimmage
35:43and he gets seven yards.
35:45And,
35:46you know,
35:46watching him in the,
35:47in the preseason,
35:48first team All-American,
35:50Big Ten running back
35:51of the year,
35:52you know,
35:53not real flashy,
35:55but just a,
35:56just a solid player.
35:58And he's able
35:59to make people miss
36:00and,
36:01you know,
36:02a guy that they've
36:02got confidence in
36:04and,
36:04you know,
36:05to get more work here
36:06in a game like this,
36:07and that'll serve
36:08them well
36:08as they move
36:09through the early
36:10part of this season.
36:17Again,
36:19third and short
36:20coming up
36:22after Johnson
36:23gets one.
36:32two quarterbacks
36:33coming back
36:34after offseason
36:35surgery.
36:36In the case of
36:36Patrick Mahomes,
36:37surgery the day
36:38after he was injured
36:40on December 14th.
36:42And here he is
36:42nine months later,
36:44that lighter brace
36:45on his left knee
36:47ran for a 15-yard
36:49touchdown early.
36:50He's been moving
36:50around fine.
36:51He's not really
36:51been able to connect
36:52much downfield
36:53with his wide receivers,
36:55but Kenneth Walker
36:57has been the guy
36:57who stepped up tonight.
37:01Here's a third down
37:02carry,
37:03and that's just
37:03effort by Emmitt
37:05Johnson.
37:08And Khalil Benson,
37:11who wasn't even
37:12on the list,
37:13Troy,
37:13of guys that
37:14teams called
37:15after the draft.
37:17He had to come
37:18to a rookie
37:19tryout camp.
37:21And he was so good
37:23and good
37:24during camp
37:25that here he is
37:26starting at left tackle
37:27for the injured
37:28Josh Simmons,
37:29and he's been outstanding.
37:30Yeah, he's been good.
37:31I'll be curious,
37:33you know,
37:33coaches always say
37:34go back and watch the film.
37:35I mean,
37:36the fact that we haven't
37:37had to talk about it much
37:39is a really good sign.
37:41And who knows,
37:42he might be the left tackle
37:43that anchors
37:44that position
37:45for a while.
37:46I mean,
37:47you go back to 2023,
37:48they've had 10 different
37:49starting left tackles
37:51just since 2023.
37:52I mean,
37:52that's been a revolving goal.
37:54Josh Simmons,
37:55their first round pick
37:56last year.
37:56Two years at IU
37:58for this young man
37:59and a year at Colorado.
38:01Blocking for Shadur Sanders.
38:02Back to IU
38:03and he won a national championship.
38:05Two minutes left.
38:0621-point game.
38:08Chiefs ball.
38:08Going to start this season
38:101-0 and send the Broncos,
38:11the reigning AFC West champs,
38:14to an 0-1 start.
38:16Two minutes to go
38:16with Casey.
38:23How are you?
38:24Scott Van Pelt here
38:25coming up on the
38:25Monday Night Post game
38:26presented by Nationwide.
38:27I believe Kenneth Walker
38:28is going to join us
38:29if he's not exhausted
38:30from all the work
38:31he had tonight.
38:32Going to visit with Joe
38:33and Troy.
38:33Going to get Troy's thoughts
38:34on the comeback
38:34of the quarterbacks.
38:35Guys,
38:36it's just one game,
38:37but this is an emphatic
38:38statement by the home team
38:39tonight.
38:40Yeah,
38:40it really is.
38:41I think they're reminding
38:42people to not forget
38:43about them.
38:44Kansas City went 6-11
38:46a year ago.
38:47They looked up
38:47at the Denver Broncos,
38:48top spot in the division.
38:5114-3.
38:53And in every phase
38:55of the game tonight,
38:56Kansas City was better.
38:57This will end up
38:58being the third most
38:59rush yards under Andy Reid
39:01in his now 14 years
39:03in Kansas City.
39:06And for Andy,
39:07his new weapon,
39:08Kenneth Walker,
39:09outgained
39:10the Denver Broncos
39:13by 14 yards.
39:15191 yards
39:16for Walker Denver
39:17with 177.
39:19The last Chiefs player
39:21to outgain an opponent
39:22was Larry Johnson
39:23back in 06
39:24against the Bengals.
39:26Travis Kelsey
39:27moved into the number
39:28two spot all time
39:29and receiving yards
39:30by a tight end.
39:32And maybe
39:34as important
39:35as the health
39:36of Patrick Mahomes,
39:37who looks no worse
39:38for the wear
39:39after coming back
39:40nine months
39:41after tearing
39:42his ACL
39:43and his LCL.
39:44Yeah, he looked good,
39:46Joe.
39:46And because they
39:48were able to run
39:49the ball so efficiently,
39:51it allowed him
39:53not to have to
39:55try to do more
39:56than whatever
39:57physically he
39:58he might feel
40:00is holding him back.
40:02Not that anything is,
40:03but they didn't ask
40:04a lot from him.
40:05They didn't have to
40:06put on a Superman cape
40:07and what a good feeling
40:11for him
40:11to be able
40:12to play quarterback
40:13and get that kind
40:14of production
40:14from the running game
40:15as they had hoped
40:17that they might.
40:19Well, he attacked
40:20his rehab
40:21with the knee
40:22like he attacks
40:22defenses in the league.
40:27By the way,
40:28that was fourth down,
40:29so that's a turnover
40:29on bounds.
40:30It's Denver's ball.
40:31Time now
40:32for our game recap
40:33brought to you
40:33by Starlink.
40:35And it was
40:36the Kenneth Walker
40:38show tonight.
40:39That was a fourth
40:40and one carry
40:41that went for 60 yards
40:44and a touchdown.
40:44Here's the play
40:45where Travis Kelsey
40:46ended up
40:48in the number two
40:48spot all time
40:49for receiving yards
40:50by tight end
40:51and this went down
40:52as a pass reception
40:53for a touchdown
40:55by Kenneth Walker
40:57and a resounding win
41:00tonight for KC.
41:01Kenneth Walker
41:02just kind of picked up
41:03right where he left off
41:04from last year's
41:05postseason.
41:07Super Bowl MVP
41:09a career high
41:10in rush yards
41:11tonight.
41:13Rushing touchdown
41:14a touchdown
41:16reception
41:17Mahomes
41:18with two touchdown
41:18passes
41:19that short one
41:20to Walker
41:20at the touchdown
41:22run.
41:26Kansas City

41:31Denver
41:33offense
41:33Denver
41:34just

41:36in the ballgame.
41:43Mike McGlinchey
41:44and Travis Kelsey
41:48getting together.
41:48There's Khalil Benson.
41:51Big night for that young man
41:53as we send it down to
41:53Lisa Sultz.
41:54Thank you, Joe.
41:55Patrick, when I asked
41:56your pregame
41:57if you were going to look
41:58like yourself,
41:59you were like,
41:59oh, we'll see how it goes.
42:00So how do you think it went?
42:02I think it went really well.
42:03I mean,
42:03I didn't expect him to run it
42:04that early,
42:05but I was able to use my legs
42:07early in the game.
42:07And then I've been saying it
42:08all offseason, man.
42:09K-9's going to make a difference.
42:10That offensive line in K-9,
42:12they took over the game.
42:13You told us that you were
42:14going to try to avoid
42:15taking hits in traffic.
42:17It didn't look like you were
42:18thinking about it.
42:18Were you even thinking
42:19about the knee at all?
42:20No, not at all.
42:21I mean, you see that goal line,
42:22you're a football player,
42:23and you've got to get in the end zone.
42:24And so I just try to get in the end zone,
42:26be there for my guys,
42:27and we were able to get a big win
42:28this first week.
42:29You were talking about Kenneth Walker.
42:30Just what has he brought
42:31to this offense?
42:33It's a mentality and its attitude.
42:34You know, he sets the tone.
42:36We talked about it all week long.
42:37Against this defense,
42:38you've got to set the tone,
42:39and that offensive line
42:40and those running backs did that.
42:41And then we were able to do
42:41enough passing the ball
42:42to go out there and get a big win.
42:44Were you actually down
42:45in a three-point stance
42:46in that TD toss to him?
42:47Yeah, we got that play
42:48from a long time ago.
42:49So Coach Reed goes to the archives
42:51with Coach Heck.
42:52We got an old-school play,
42:54and it worked out perfectly.
42:55And we talked about the rookie,
42:56Khalil Benson, before the game.
42:58Just what impressed you most
43:00about the way he played tonight?
43:02Yeah, I mean, people talked
43:02about pass blocking,
43:03pass blocking, pass blocking,
43:04but that man can run blocking.
43:05And when you can set the tone
43:06run blocking, that helps out
43:08the pass blocking.
43:08And so he's strong.
43:10He did a great job stepping in,
43:11filling in, and that's going to
43:13be a great option to have
43:14when we get the other guy back.
43:15So him and our defense,
43:17I'm going to have to get props
43:17to our defense, man.
43:18They played their tail off
43:19against a good offense.
43:20And so we'll keep the momentum
43:21going.
43:21It's still early.
43:22You've got to get better.
43:23Congratulations on the win,
43:24and welcome back, Patrick.
43:25Yeah, yeah, I appreciate you.
43:26Yeah, well, Patrick during the
43:28week told us he was good
43:31with quick movements.
43:32Midway through camp, he wasn't
43:33even feeling the knee anymore.
43:35He said, the only thing is,
43:36I just haven't been hit.
43:37He got hit tonight, but he and
43:39his Chiefs get a win tonight,
43:40an emphatic win over a
43:42divisional rival.
43:44And they walk out of here
43:45with a 31-10 win.
