00:00All right, let me sell you this pen.
00:02So this is really an exercise in compartmentalization.
00:07Everything we've seen so far is suggestive that none of the things I'm about to say will be true.
00:12I know that.
00:14Everything I have said and watched about Bryce Underwood is completely different from what I'm offering you here.
00:20So take some notes and then let's get into it.
00:23Because Lions and Saints, I totally understand someone saying the Saints are a bigger danger to the Lions than Michigan
00:31is to Oklahoma.
00:32The NFL, damn near 60% of the games are one-score games.
00:37The league is designed on parity.
00:39There's a salary cap.
00:41There's a CBA roster construction, roster constriction that just allows for the product to be rooted in fourth quarter, one
00:50score.
00:50And look, for people who want to do the laughy, ha-ha stuff, and it's the Saints, go look at
00:55the Saints the last six weeks of last year.
00:57Go look at Kellen Moore as an offensive mind.
01:00Shuck the quarterback, Olave, Jawan Johnson, some of the weaponry, Travis Atien.
01:06Look, you can laugh and joke.
01:09A-chan apparently is how he wants to be pronounced now.
01:12Like Miami's running back?
01:14Yes.
01:14You're being for real.
01:15No, yeah, 100%.
01:16Well, I'm not doing that.
01:17It's Atien.
01:18You can't do that six years in the year.
01:20Yeah, like what are we talking about?
01:22I'm at a world peace.
01:24No, you're not.
01:24You're on our test.
01:25Just saying for people that watch the game this weekend, if you hear them say A-chan, apparently that's how
01:32he wants it pronounced.
01:33The more relevant point.
01:34Is that the Creole way of saying it, I guess?
01:35The more relevant point is they're going to throw the ball.
01:37I quit.
01:38I'm done.
01:38I didn't mean to cut you off.
01:40This is a bleep show.
01:41So look, the Saints are going to throw the ball 650 times this year.
01:45So F around and find out.
01:47You better be ready and better be buttoned up on that back end.
01:50That's your weakness.
01:50Let me give you the Michigan part.
01:52So A, we all watch what we watch, right?
01:55I think we all consider it they lost to Western Michigan.
01:58Fine.
01:58Whatever.
01:59It was the worst performance of week one.
02:01Well, what's happened all week?
02:03Well, doorknobs like us and anyone with a brain has shredded Michigan.
02:08They have made fun of them.
02:10All of America's rooting against them because of how they were let off the hook.
02:13And all week, who's been slandered the most?
02:16Bryce Underwood.
02:17Now, I'm wondering if an ex-athlete over here at a high level is going to agree with this.
02:21I think the most dangerous time to face a team is when Mother Earth is both against them.
02:28You've been written off.
02:29You've been made fun of.
02:31I mean, they really, they've been tarred and feathered here.
02:33It's been embarrassing.
02:34They're at home.
02:36They've had to sit there all week and be told what POSs they are.
02:39And Bryce has had to sit there.
02:42You're the worst quarterback in history.
02:44You make DJ Lagway blush.
02:46This is an embarrassment.
02:47Whatever the best version of Michigan is, and maybe it's not much, maybe Oklahoma will just do the business, but
02:54whatever they have, you're getting it this week.
02:56There's no world it looks like last week.
02:59None.
03:00I refuse to accept that they're that.
03:03Now, they may not be good.
03:04I know what you're going to say.
03:07And I'm with you.
03:08I don't think they're a playoff team by any means.
03:09But do we really believe there's some 3-9 car wreck?
03:13Do we really believe that Bryce Underwood is truly the worst quarterback in America?
03:18You know, like these things that we're talking about.
03:21Now, all I'll say is they don't have a bad defense.
03:25What happens, and I know TJ will agree with this, leave any defense in America out there, 3.3 yards
03:32a carry like a service academy, and you know what happens.
03:34You get worn out because Michigan's offense was so bad, those guys would get to the sideline,
03:41hold Western to a field goal.
03:43They wouldn't even be able to get their first sip of Gatorade, and it's like, you're back.
03:48You get tired.
03:50You get worn out.
03:51I just believe that we've seen the wounded animal backed into a corner.
03:56I'm giving Michigan one shot because here's what's on the line.
04:00I think Whittingham's grace period is completely on the line.
04:04You cannot start 0-2 at Michigan, and they are.
04:07Jeff Sagarin, who is part of that playoff process, already has marked that as a loss.
04:12And for Bryce Underwood, it's your career.
04:14If he goes out and shows his ass, he's not starting against UTEP next week.
04:20So I'm giving him one shot.
04:22Oh, name your source on that.
04:24I'll tell you all fair.
04:25I will say this, John.
04:27But obviously, Rico, they started in the official rank standings.
04:33They're 1-0.
04:34We all know what you're talking about, Mike.
04:36But it's pretty damning when you drop out of the top 20.
04:3912 spots.
04:40Completely out of the top 25.
04:42So it's a good point.
04:43Here's what I have to say.
04:45As far as Michigan goes, you made some great points to the senator from New York.
04:51But I will ask you this.
04:53Go ahead.
04:54What was it about Western Michigan that was so great?
04:58Because it wasn't like Western played fluky football.
05:00They dominated the game.
05:02The fluky play was on Michigan's behalf.
05:05Yeah.
05:05So if they're that bad, I do think that maybe there's just something that that's just a team
05:12that they are because Western didn't do anything special.
05:15Western didn't come out and run some weird offense.
05:18They didn't blitz nonstop.
05:20They just beat you at your own game.
05:23And now I'm looking at an upgrade in defense.
05:25Because Michigan's defense, I said the front seven looked awesome.
05:28They got worn down.
05:29I will agree with you there.
05:31Oklahoma's bringing a better defense.
05:33I know.
05:33Western Michigan.
05:34And Brent Venables disguises coverages as good or better than any.
05:37A lot better defense.
05:38I know.
05:38Look.
05:39But then I look at the Saints.
05:40I'm willing to look stupid.
05:41I don't have any problem with people calling and calling me stupid.
05:44I just, I've seen this movie before.
05:46And here's the last piece.
05:47You can laugh.
05:48Look at where the number's going.
05:50Yeah.
05:50That number's down to four and a half right now.
05:52Yeah.
05:52And I understand that.
05:53Well, it started as Michigan, what, a point and a half.
05:56And then it went up to Oklahoma.
05:58It swung like a whole touchdown.
05:59Across the bridge.
06:00Now it's kind of coming back to more of a field goal type game.
06:02But I just, I'm at the point now where I don't want to overcomplicate it.
06:08And I just want to trust what my eyes tell me.
06:10And that's fair.
06:11And I got to be careful with semantics.
06:12I don't want to go through what you went through last week.
06:16Oh, I don't care.
06:17That's all weak sauce.
06:18Bryce Underwood looks to me like he's an immature quarterback.
06:21And he doesn't, he's not making adjustments.
06:23He's not bringing in the information.
06:26You can, especially college football, it's very simple to early in the game,
06:33figure out what the opponent and figure out what the opposing defensive
06:37coordinator, how they're trying to attack you.
06:39And I just do not find any situations, not only, you know, last week's game,
06:45but going back to last year where you're making adjustments and you're saying,
06:49okay, I know they're going to do this.
06:50I can, I can really start to mess with the, with the defense a little bit and
06:53change some things.
06:54And, but there's just, whether it's the press conferences and, and look,
06:58I don't put a ton of stock into that.
07:00I guarantee Kyle Whittingham, the type of coach that he is would not have gone
07:05up there to the press conference and the podium to say, and I think it got lost
07:08in the shuffle where it looked worse when he said our quarterback's job is not
07:13set in stone or not infinite.
07:14He did mention pretty much everybody on the team.
07:17Everybody has to get better.
07:19Nobody on this team has a, a roster spot where they can go out there and play
07:23terrible.
07:23And they're our starter next week.
07:24But when you talk about the quarterback, obviously that's going to be very
07:27heavily amplified, but I doubt that Kyle Whittingham said that in front of the
07:32media without having a conversation with your players.
07:35That's just, he doesn't strike me as that type of coach.
07:37And, but Bryce's reaction to it.
07:40Okay.
07:40It's cool.
07:41Some things that happened during the game, like he throws this, you know, out
07:45route to one of his slot receivers against cover to coverage, which, which is a,
07:49it's a, it's a hospital ball, right?
07:52It's an automatic no, no, you're going to get the guy's head ripped off, which
07:54happened on that play.
07:55The corner kind of baited him.
07:56He threw the out route.
07:58He came up and smoked.
07:58I can't remember which, and he's just up there like grinning, like, Oh, cool, man.
08:04Like, Oh, what a, like it's plays like that where I'm just like, what?
08:08Like, Oh, it's frustrating to watch.
08:10And I think that I'm just at the point now where if Bryce comes out this weekend,
08:15I'm not writing the kid off.
08:16He is a tremendous athlete.
08:18He has tremendous skills to play the quarterback position.
08:22But from the sample that I've seen over the past year and last week against
08:27Western Michigan, I just, I can't, I can't be one of these fans that just keeps
08:32living on hope.
08:33No, no, I hope this is going to be, you understand what I'm doing though.
08:36It can happen, but I'm trying to give them enough credit to say that these,
08:40these players have enough personal pride to know last week was an
08:45abomination.
08:46Here's the last piece.
08:47Yeah.
08:47But I think at some point you just are what you are.
08:49Okay.
08:49And this week, that's where I'm at.
08:51And this is that week.
08:51And I'm just, I totally, I understand what will happen.
08:55If they lose, I'll get made fun of.
08:56I don't care.
08:57You can't do this job and care.
08:59The, the, the one piece I'll say, and then you two can tell me I'm an
09:02idiot with this.
09:03I think they're going to, they're going to run him a lot because the only way
09:07since he can't process, he doesn't have the acumen for the position
09:09right now.
09:09He can't process fast enough.
09:11The whole point is how do I slow the game down?
09:13Read option.
09:15Mesh point.
09:16Make the defense.
09:17RPOs.
09:18And that's, but it has to be live.
09:20Meaning if the DN crashes, I have to pull that ball and go.
09:23So you're turning him into Denard Robinson.
09:25No, I stop with the straw man.
09:28I am asking the question.
09:29I am saying there's a healthy middle ground that if you go back and watch the
09:33tape, those RPOs are not live because he never keeps it.
09:38You know how many Michigan fans would actually die for Denard Robinson to be
09:43the quarterback right now?
09:44I don't.
09:45I know you said that as like, Oh, so you just turn him into a running
09:47quarterback.
09:47I mean, but yeah, I'm cool with that.
09:50Or better yet moderate.
09:52Like when Orgy, Alex Orgy was in the game, you knew it was a run.
09:56He was not going to pass.
09:57It was going to be run, run, run, run, run.
09:59Yeah.
09:59So I'm saying, are you saying that?
10:01I'm saying, I'm saying eight to 10 design quarterback runs to allow for eight to 10
10:06hard play action or mesh point.
10:08Pass plays that simplify his windows.
10:10I got a lot of these responses last week and I know we're going to break, but people
10:14saying, Oh, it was a simple game plan.
10:16Oh, they didn't show, you know, anybody else.
10:18I'm like, if that's, if that's Bryce Underwood with a simple game plan, I don't really know
10:22if I want to see him with, with a more advanced game plan.
10:26Yeah.
10:26Right.
10:26Like that's kind of where I'm at.
10:27You can't even make the simple play simple.
10:29Notice I'm not arguing either of you.
10:31I know I'm on an Island.
10:32I'm just trying to defend my rationale.
10:34It's okay to be on an Island.
10:35No, no, I'm saying he's with you, but I have reasons and look, maybe it all goes bleeps
10:41up and it's, you know, 27 to 10 Oklahoma and it's non-competitive.
10:45I've just seen the movie before.
10:47I don't know why the numbers four and a half I'll buy them one time.
10:52They're going to play like, this has got 21, 17 written all over a gross, low scoring
10:56material fumble in the red zone.
10:59Mission will crack one huge run.
11:01The game is compressed.
11:02They got to slow this thing down.
11:04I don't know.
11:05Hey guys, you agree, disagree.
11:07You live out there.
11:09What is it?
11:10You escape Western and all of a sudden you crawl back in your little rat holes.
11:13Two, four, eight, five, three, nine, 97, 97.
11:17I'll tell you why I think the lions and the saints next.
11:2097 one.
11:211, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9,
11:219, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10, 9, 9,
11:219, 9, 10, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 10, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9,
11:2110, 9, 9, 9, 10, 9, 10, 9, 9, 10, 9, 10, 10, 11, 10, 11, 11, 11, 11, 11,
11:2111, 11, 12, 12, 11, 11, 11, 11, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 12, 13,
11:2112, 12, 12, 13, 13, 12, 13, 12, 12, 13, 12
