Taylor Townsend wins US Open doubles final

Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova captured the 2026 US Open women’s doubles title after defeating Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery in a three-set battle at Flushing Meadows.

After the victory, Townsend used her podium speech to reflect on Black representation in tennis. She said, “I take a lot of pride in this: Being a Black woman here,” before adding, “It’s two Black women here in this finals. They’re two Black men in the semifinals.”

Townsend continued, “This is a phenomenal time for tennis, for inspiration, for representation.”

Her comments highlighted how meaningful the moment was to her beyond simply winning another Grand Slam title. The championship also completed Townsend’s career Grand Slam in women’s doubles, adding another major achievement to her career.

Townsend has previously spoken about representation after major tournaments. Following her 2025 French Open run, she said, “I wanna say thank you to everyone who supported me... It’s bigger than me. It’s about the message and representation.”

Her latest victory gave her another opportunity to celebrate her achievement while emphasizing the significance of representation in tennis.
