00:00I couldn't have put together a better performance for the night.
00:02I think I had, I think I tied the all-time knockdown record in a lightweight fight for BKFC.
00:07And I knocked the old boy down nine times before the ref finally called it on him.
00:11Nine times.
00:12I've never seen that before.
00:14I didn't know you could get knocked down nine times.
00:17Like, nine times.
00:18At what point, Pete, at what point did you go, oh, man, come on, dude.
00:23Like, even in your mind, you're like, really?
00:25You're getting up like, was it the fifth, the sixth?
00:28Where you're like, dude, my hands hurt.
00:30Now I'm getting mad about this.
00:31Like, at what point, we're like, I can't, this dude won't go away.
00:36So, at one point, you see me start, like, yelling at Kevin McDonald, the referee.
00:40And I'm like, count this mother f***er.
00:42He's down.
00:43Count him out.
00:44Don't let him up.
00:45Like, how many times do I have to knock him down?
00:47And then, you know, in hindsight, that's part of the rule set of BKFC.
00:50If old boy's going to get up, they're going to let him fight.
00:52If he can put his feet together and walk forward, walk left, walk right, the ref's to let him go.
00:56Unless it's, you know, unless the ref really, really feels bad.
00:59Because the old boy's getting beaten so bad that, you know, the corner's not thrown in the towel.
01:03The ref's able to step in.
01:04But, you know, it was really weird about Harris.
01:07Every time I knocked him down, he didn't seem to, like, miss a step when he got back up.
01:11So, I'm thinking, how hard do I have to hit this guy to put him down to keep him down?
01:15And, you know, he took a step to the left, took a step to the right, got a standing eight
01:18count, came forward.
01:20Ref, you know, Kevin McDonald let the fight go on.
01:22And so, at one point, I ran over to Feldman.
01:24I'm going, how many times do you want me to knock him down before you guys call this damn fight?
01:28Because he was sitting cage-side.
01:29And I'm like, what else do you need from me?
01:31I'm doing everything I can to put this boy down.
01:34And it was just, it was a really fun experience, you know.
01:37It was great to have another local referee in there.
01:41And, you know, maybe he let the fight go so much because he's another, he's a local guy and he
01:46didn't want there to look like, it didn't, we didn't want there to be any sort of impression that, like,
01:50the local referee that was on the card was helping out a local guy by calling the fight early.
01:54Like, he gave that kid every chance, every opportunity and then some to put his shit together and try to
01:59come back and try to build an offense against me.
02:02And I just had answers to all of his questions and he didn't like the answers he was getting, that's
02:06for damn sure.
02:08And, you know, but no disrespect to Elijah Harris, he is a really tough kid.
02:13You know, when he puts it together, he looks great.
02:16But when he's on the other end of it, you know, he's known for being tough and durable.
02:20And that was one of the best parts of him being the opponent for the fight.
02:23You know, I just kept telling people, like, this kid's so tough, he's going to allow me to beat the
02:27bag out of him and make it look really good for Fenway Park.
02:30Like, I couldn't have asked for a better opponent.
02:32Like, you know, you could argue that my debut fight would have been great there at Fenway, but I wouldn't
02:36have given the fans enough.
02:37They wouldn't have seen what I'm capable of.
02:38They wouldn't have been able to see the footwork.
02:40They wouldn't have been able to see the positioning.
02:42They wouldn't have been able to see my accuracy.
02:44I mean, I sat all the way down, not a liver shot, a shot to a spleen.
02:49You know, what a lot of people don't understand is you can drop people with a spleen shot too.
02:52The liver is just more popular.
02:53People know about the liver because that's easier for a righty to hit.
02:56Us lefties, we can kick to the, I can kick to the liver.
02:59If you look at some of my MMA knockouts, kicks to the liver, big kick to the liver.
03:02I attack the liver.
03:03Now that I'm using my hands, not my knees, not my legs, I've decided I've been really finding home with
03:09that body shot on the spleen on the other side.
03:11And I've been able to sit people down with it.
03:12And there were a couple of times where I ripped the heavy body shot and you just saw him cripple
03:16and fold.
03:17But I wanted to ask you, though, so nine knockdowns keeps getting up, but it's almost dangerous, isn't it?
03:23Because you can almost, a fighter can take someone for granted and think, all right, dude, like you can always
03:29get caught, right, in this sport, in any sport, especially in bare knuckle.
03:34And we saw it with Casey and Davison, right?
03:37I mean, Casey was like, dude, Davison went down hard a few times.
03:41I was like, oh, bro, like, this guy just, like, got knocked down hard, popped back up, next thing you
03:46know, he wins.
03:47So, like, even though you can get confident, Pete, in the ring, you always have to be aware, yeah, this
03:52son of a bitch can tag me at any time, right?
03:54There's that fine line between cockiness and getting reckless, right?
03:59Yeah, and that's why they give you the opportunity to get knocked down ten times in a round without calling
04:04the fight.
04:05Because at the end of the day, we don't have gloves on.
04:07You have a puncher's chance.
04:08If I got sloppy, if I wasn't humble, if I wasn't keeping my hands up, if I wasn't doing the
04:12right thing, he could have clipped me.
04:14And, I mean, there was a punch in the second round, and we talked about it after the fight.
04:17He piped one right down the middle.
04:19And out of nowhere, I didn't even see it coming.
04:21My left hand ended up right in front and caught that punch.
04:24And I remember thinking, man, if I didn't react to that and catch that, this fight could have ended very
04:29differently.
04:30Because that was a hard punch.
04:31It was a different hand, huh?
04:32I was like, oh, I didn't get that.
04:34Oh, man.
04:35I don't even, like, I just remember seeing it last minute.
04:38I don't even remember thinking it, but I just, that hand was there, and I caught it.
04:41And I was like, that could have been my teeth down my throat.
04:44That was the, that was the, I was talking to Kai at the press conference right there.
04:47I almost had my teeth knocked down my throat.
04:49Because he hits hard.
04:51He hits hard.
04:52His two knockouts were quick.
04:53That right hand comes in fast and hard.
04:55So I know if that had landed, we might not be having this conversation.
04:59You might be talking to Elijah Harris for upsetting a 2-0 guy.
05:02But, you know, that comes down to the trust in the time that I put into the sport where I
05:08can let my body react and I don't have to think about it.
05:12Like, my eyes registered that punch right before it got to my mouth, and my hand was there, and I
05:15wasn't even thinking about it.
05:16I didn't, there was no conscious thought to block that punch.
05:19It just blocked the punch, you know what I mean?
05:20And that's, that's the level where I'm at, and that's the level I'm trying to show BKFC at.
05:24It's on the instinct.
05:25And you've got to, you've got to be able to put your fighting onto the default mode network and let
05:29that take care of things so you can game plan and build your future advances.
05:34You know, it's kind of like chess.
05:35You know, you've got to have your default mode network worrying about the little things while you're game planning and
05:40strategizing what's coming up.
05:41You can't be so caught in what's happening in the moment that you're not thinking about your next few shots.
