00:01Two parents from St Helens have denied causing the death of their one-year-old son.
00:05Adam Johnson and Kylie Smith appeared at Liverpool Crown Court, charged in connection
00:10with Miro Johnson's death. They both pleaded not guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child.
00:17They also denied charges of cruelty to a person under 16. A post-mortem examination found Miro
00:23died in August 2023 from ketotic hypoglycemia and severe malnutrition. Johnson pleaded guilty to
00:31possessing cannabis. The couple were granted bail. The trial is expected to last four to six weeks,
00:37with proceedings due to begin next April. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for 5th April.
