Colin Allred, Democratic candidate for the U.S. House from Texas, accuses Republicans of misleading Americans about the cost of living. Allred argues that the GOP promised costs would fall, but says the price of everyday goods and services has continued to rise. His remarks highlight the growing political fight over inflation, rising prices, household costs and the U.S. economy ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

00:00The cost of everything is up, from meat to childcare to healthcare.
00:05The only thing that's less expensive is if you want to buy something from this government.
00:09Because if you grease the right palms, you can buy it.
00:13This is the most corrupt government we've ever had.
00:17You know, you just knew that they had to bring that old broke convention to Dallas, didn't you?
00:22They out there talking to empty stadiums, a bunch of sick events talking a bunch of nonsense.
00:27I think right now, our trifling mayor is speaking at this convention.
00:34Somebody who ran as a Democrat, then decided to switch it up.
00:40And I'm surprised they even show their face here in Dallas, because I'm born and raised here.
00:45And I know who we are.
00:47And if we were who they say we are, then my life wouldn't have been possible.
00:52Because I was raised here by a single mom who was a public school teacher.
00:54And so I take it personal when you lie to working people about what you're going to do for them.
01:00They said the costs were going to go down.
01:02The cost of everything is up, from meat to childcare to healthcare.
01:07The only thing that's less expensive is if you want to buy something from this government.
01:11Because if you grease the right palms, you can buy it.
01:15This is the most corrupt government we've ever had.
01:18And what that means is that when we retake the House of Representatives, and when we retake the Senate,
01:24that we're going to come into Congress, and we're going to hold these folks accountable.
01:29For too long, in our party, we've relied on the accomplishments of the past.
01:38The accomplishments of the Civil Rights Movement.
01:40The Voting Rights Act of 1965 that I worked with as a voting rights lawyer.
01:45The Civil Rights Act.
01:47The Fair Housing Act.
01:49Social Security.
01:50Medicare.
01:51Medicaid.
01:51It's time for a new generation of civil rights laws.
01:55Passed by us for this moment.
01:57To make sure that we respond to what's going on so we'll never have to deal with any of this
02:01nonsense again.
02:03Because what they are trying to do, understand, is they don't want us to have a normal election.
02:10You see what they're trying to do on vote by mail.
02:13They're trying to make folks scared just to vote by mail.
02:15So if you're like my aunt, and you can't even go to the polls because you have a disability,
02:20that you might not think that your vote is going to count.
02:23You know they're going to be sending ICE.
02:25They're going to be sending the National Guard out to our polling places come November.
02:29I'm telling you now because what we have to do is decide right now that we're not going to let
02:34it stop us.
02:35We're not going to let it stop us, right?
02:38When they come to suppress our vote, we're going to vote anyway.
02:41We're going to walk right past all those armed guards.
02:44We're going to right past into our polling place.
02:46We're going to cast those ballots where folks are going to hold them accountable in this election.
02:50That's what we're going to do.
