00:04have gone up in the United States of America. Life is way too expensive. There are far too
00:11many people in this city, in this state, and all across America who are working hard, they're
00:19playing by the rules, but they can't thrive and they can barely survive. That should not
00:25be the case here in the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the
00:31history of the world. But everyday Americans, working-class Americans, and
00:35middle-class Americans are being left behind. My friend, Hakeem Jeffries.
00:45Good afternoon everyone. It's an honor and a privilege to be here with my good friend
00:50and a great leader, Congressman Stephen Horsford here in the fourth
00:54congressional district, and so many distinguished leaders of organized labor
01:00who fight every day, every week, every month, year after year, to ensure that the
01:07workers of this great city are treated with the dignity and respect that they
01:13deserve. So appreciative for the work that Stephen Horsford has done and to be able
01:19to join him today as we kick off this Labor Day weekend, 60 days from the all-important
01:27midterm election that will take place on November 3rd. It's an honor and it's a privilege.
01:35These are very challenging times right now in the United States of America, as the people
01:40of Las Vegas are experiencing. We're in the midst of a Trump slump, an unprecedented extremism
01:48that has been unleashed on the American people from the very beginning of this toxic administration.
01:55Donald Trump promised that costs would go down on day one, costs haven't gone down, costs
02:00have gone up in the United States of America. Life is way too expensive. There are far too many
02:07people in this city, in this state, and all across America who are working hard, they're playing by the rules,
02:16but they can't thrive and they can barely survive. That should not be the case here in the United States
02:24of America,
02:24the wealthiest country in the history of the world. But everyday Americans, working-class Americans,
02:31and middle-class Americans are being left behind. Now, as House Democrats, we believe that in this country,
02:41in America, when you work hard and play by the rules, as is the case with all of the workers
02:50supported by
02:53these great unions here today and the unions all across America, that when you work hard and when you play
03:00by the rules, you should be able to live an affordable life, a comfortable life, and a good life. And
03:09we know
03:10what that good life should look like. A good paying job, good housing, good health care, a good education
03:20for your children, and then when it's all said and done, a good retirement. That's the good life.
03:30And as we kick off this Labor Day weekend, let me be clear, no one has done more to bring
03:37that American
03:38dream to life than the men and women of organized labor. So, House Democrats will continue to stand
03:49shoulder-to-shoulder with you. And we will prioritize pro-union legislation and ensure that when we take
04:02control of the majority, we advance bills like the PRO Act so we can protect the right to organize for
04:10the
04:11American worker all across the United States of America. We're going to work hard and fight for an
04:19affordable America. We're going to fight to lower the high cost of groceries and gas and housing.
04:28As House Democrats, we also believe that in this great country of ours,
04:34access to high-quality and affordable health care can't simply be a privilege available only to the
04:42wealthy, the well-off, and the well-connected. Access to high-quality and affordable health care
04:47needs to be a right available to every single American. And that's what these unions do such a
04:55tremendous job fighting to achieve. We also believe that immigration enforcement in this country and
05:03we have a broken immigration system should be fair, just, and humane. That's not what's taking place
05:09right now, which is why we continue to aggressively push back against ICE and its attack on the American
05:17people, its attack on law-abiding immigrant families, its attack on workers all across the United States
05:26of America. And our commitment as House Democrats is that we're going to do everything we can to get ICE
05:32under control here in the United States of America. And lastly, among the many priorities that we know
05:43we need to push back on is the fact that not only have Republicans failed to do anything to lower
05:53the
05:53high cost of living here in the United States of America, their toxic policies have actually made life
05:59more expensive. Which is why we're going to fight hard to end the Trump tariffs that have been costing
06:08everyday Americans thousands of dollars per year. And at the same time, do everything in our power
06:15to stop Donald Trump's reckless and costly war of choice in Iran.
06:23And so I'm so thankful to be joined here by my good friend, classmate, and brother, Stephen Horsford,
06:33and by all of you appreciative of the work that you do on behalf of the hard-working men and
06:41women
06:42here in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada, and committed to being in this fight with you,
06:48shoulder to shoulder over the next 60 days and beyond, and confident that as long as we continue to
06:55show up and stand up and speak up for what we know is right, we're going to win the day
06:59and win the week
07:00and win the month and win the year, win the hearts and minds of the American people, and on November
07:063rd,
07:07re-elect Stephen Horsford and win back control of the United States House of Representatives.
